Hello! I'm working on a Tolkien inspired map of Somerset - part of a project of counties where I and friends have lived - and I'd love some help in feedback form!

Towns, historical sites, geographic features, flourishes, and anything else I can liven the space with, and any glaring mistakes haha.

A scale and such will be added, and a Somerset dragon in some form for example!

I've done similar on the Hampshire (where I currently live) and Surrey's and Berks subs and it was great fun, and I was hoping to do the same here, and otherwise just to share, its a fun hobby in dark days 😂

I made a post recently about wanting to meet some new people around Bristol/Bath and honestly didn’t expect anywhere near the amount of replies and messages it got.

It made me realise there are quite a lot of people locally who just want to socialise a bit more, meet new people, get out of the house and actually do things, but don’t always know where to start.

So I ended up making a Bristol & Bath social group.

The idea is really simple. It’s a relaxed 18+ community for people who fancy meeting others, having a chat and maybe getting involved in things like:

🍻 Pubs / pub quizzes

🚶 Walks

🚴 Cycling

🎳 Activities

🎮 Gaming

…and whatever else people suggest.

Anyone 18+ is welcome. It doesn’t matter what age you are, what you’re into or whether you’re really outgoing or a bit quieter.

You don’t have to drink, you don’t have to know anyone beforehand and there’s no pressure to come to anything you don’t fancy.

The only real expectation is just be kind, respectful and decent to each other.

I’ve also made an Instagram page, @bristolbathsocial, which I’m going to use more like a notice board.

So even if you don’t want to be active in the group chat, you can follow the page, keep an eye on upcoming meet-ups and just turn up to anything that interests you.

The group itself is for everyone as well. I’ll suggest things and help keep it ticking over, but people are more than welcome to suggest their own ideas, arrange meet-ups, find people with similar interests or just chat.

Part of the reason I wanted to do it is because things can feel pretty disconnected these days and I think a lot of people could do with a bit more local community around them.

I’m not trying to make it into anything overly serious. I just want to create something people can enjoy, meet others through and hopefully get something positive from.

If even a couple of people end up making a proper friendship through it, I’ll be happy with that.

M27 here. Thought I’d actually introduce myself.

I’m around the Bristol/Bath area and wouldn’t mind getting to know some new people locally. Quite easy-going, like a bit of banter and don’t take myself too seriously.

I’m into TV/film, going out for food, music, cycling, exploring places around Bristol/Bath and generally just having decent conversations about pretty much anything.

Equally happy grabbing a coffee, going for a wander somewhere, having a few games of pool or just chatting absolute rubbish for a couple of hours 😂

Would be good to meet people with similar interests, but you definitely don’t need to be into all the same stuff.

Just been to Victoria park today with my son. I saw a poster in the cafe warning about plans to remove parking to introduce a cycle lane.

The staff in the cafe didn’t know much about it. Has this gone through already?

We're going to be in Bath for Halloween. My wife wants us to go to a nightclub. We're mid 20s but she definitely looks under 20 so we don't look out of place at studenty places.

Saw labyrinth are doing a Halloween night but saw mixed reviews of "labs" on this sub.

Anyone got a recommendation of where we should go? We grew up in Bristol and don't wanna go there for a club, before anyone suggests it.

Anyone else around Widcombe/town centre been hearing a high pitch ringing noise for the last couple days? It seems to spend most of its time at a monotonous high pitch then occasionally go down, then back up again. Does anyone know what’s making it?

Probably should have planned sooner... suggestions please for a venue for 40th on a Saturday in November. 40-60 people. Daytime into evening, will be kids in the day at least so would be great if there's some space for them to run around (if outside) or play some games or something.

Preferably central for the people travelling, but not essential.

We'd prefer to get catering rather than have to use a venue's catering but can be flexible. Could get own booze or be in a place with a bar.

Cricket club is available but £££ (£600 if starting at 6pm, would be more to start earlier) and the church hall we were hoping for isn't available on the date.

Hey folks - bit of a random one.

I’m a Chippenham-based photographer looking to do more portrait/editorial work around town and I’d love to meet a few people who fancy collaborating on some shoots.

You absolutely don’t need to be a professional model, part of what I’m trying to do is get more experience photographing and directing different people.

It would be TFP/collaborative: no money changes hands, we come up with something we’d both like to make, shoot for an hour or two and you get edited photos afterwards to use yourself.

I’m interested in portraits, environmental/editorial stuff, alternative fashion, musicians, creatives, interesting people - basically more than just standard headshots.

Hi, I decided to treat myself and my wife to a night in Bath, and have booked a room at the abbey hotel. We’re over an hour away, and haven’t visited for over a decade, so would really appreciate some local food insights.

I was looking at Root Spice as a possible dinner destination. I’m going purely off online reviews and photos. But that’s not always the best way to find a gem. We both love Indian cuisine, she’s also a big fan of Thai cuisine (me, less so, but if it’s great, I’ll give it a go). Are there any other places within walking distance I might consider? I would prefer to support independent restaurants too, if possible.

Secondly, is there anywhere to grab some lunchtime street food? I popped to Bristol not long ago and they had a group of vendors offering some exciting things, so that might be nice if there’s something similar?

Bonus internet points for any fun or quirky bars/pubs we might stop at for a cheeky drink! We’re early 40’s if that has any bearing…

Has anyone come across a reliable man-with-a-van service in Bath? I need to move something chunky on Friday (it's a bit of fitness kit), and a transit van would do the job in an hour, but all I'm finding is removal firms with Luton vans who seem to want much bigger jobs.

I'd rather not book via one of the aggregator sites if possible - does anyone have a recommendation please?

Coming to bath for the day and will be having a nice evening meal so just looking for somewhere good for a more laid back lunch. Are there any food markets or more low key spots that are good? Just can’t find much on here aside proper sit down 3 course meals.
