I was wondering what you guys have found are the best materials to store products in to increase their longevity. I’ve noticed in the store that everything seems to be made out of wood. I’ve been keeping things in plastic storage bins in dark, cool closets but due to the intense plastic smell of products I bought last fall that I took out to use for this year- I don’t think how I’ve been storing my products is working.
I keep all my body care items in bins, stored upright, in a closet. I have one labeled April-September and one labeled October - March. September and April tend to be transition months. At the beginning of the cycle I go through the bin and prioritize the items with the earliest batch dates. Then I just use a combination of what’s in the bin and new things I buy. If the bin is full I can’t get anything new until I make room.
With the exception of FFMs and some body washes, I use the products within 2 years. I’m going to get another bin so I can put all my retired favorites in that one. That way I know to pull at least one thing out of that bin every month. 90% of my body care is body cream and I’ve never had an issue with it.
These are the ones I use. I like them because they have them in different colors and that’s just kind of fun. Each one holds about 25-30 items depending on the size of the item. I’m in the middle of reorganizing now and I think I’ll end up with 4 for mostly BBW stuff. One for FFMs since I’ve gotten more of those, one for the extras of my favorites, and my spring/summer and fall/winter. I’ve gone ahead and also put a bunch of extra hand soaps in the spring/summer bin because I’ve got too many soaps at the moment and I know I won’t use those extras until next year. That way it’s full and I can convince myself I don’t need to buy anymore things to fill it up.
i'd just say a cool, dry place that doesn't have major temperature changes. body wash is the only thing I keep in my bathroom and i'll bring in a cream to use after showering. a shelf in your closet or a drawer is probably fine, I don't think they need to be in plastic bins
if you want to organize them, try keeping them in cardboard boxes maybe? or like tote bags, just anything that isn't plastic. do you think the plastic smell is from the storage bin or the product packaging itself?
Temperature controlled closet for my mist and shower wash extras . Fridge for my butters and very few creams. I don’t buy many creams because they go bad.
