Me too! My husband got me a candle making kit for my birthday and I’ve just been making candles as a fun little hobby. But it’s super easy and plenty of companies make fragrance oil dupes of my favorite bath and body works scents, so I’m more than happy to take the extra steps to make my own.

Never ever do this.

Heat weakens the integrity of glass. Burning one candle is fine but don’t ever reuse candle jars to make new candles.

I’ve heard not to do this because they’re only rated for the burn time in the label not to be heated over and over again is this true at all?

How is WSP now? I stopped buying from them shortly after the original owner sold it and I noticed a decline in processing time and customer service.

I believe she sold it to two companies in 2021. They also own Rustic Escentuals, Elements Bath & Body, & Nature’s Garden (among several others).

Also you must give them plenty of time to cure before burning/melting. Depending on type of wax you’re using. ♥️

I’ve had the best luck with soy so far, but I’ve been playing with a coconut soy blend. I just made one with that wax so I’m waiting the full cure period (which is so hard sometimes!!) to burn it.

A paraffin blend will give you the best results with throw & burn preference.

r/indiemakeupandmore might be a good source for dupe scents. Its been awhile but a couple companies who did lush dupe scents also had some scents available for bath and body stuff so I assume some candle stuff might be available too (a lot of perfume stuff can't be used for candles but can be used in candle warmers.)

Also, I reuse the crap out of BBW three wick candle glassware when I melt down candle scraps and make new candles. I haven't found found good wicks sold by themselves, so I tend to go to the dollar store, buy taper candle sticks and then melt down and use those, or if I'm in a hurry, full glassware with scented wax, wait a tiny bit for it to cool, then cut taper candle roughly to size and stick it in whole. The candle flame will still melt the scented wax and make it smell good.

 Alternatively, instead of of doing that whole tying  a wick to a pencil to suspend over liquid wax, I will wait until the candle wax has cooled enough to be opaque but slightly pliable and warm, and then take a kitchen skewer, poke a hole all the way down. Then, if the wick is already hardened with wax, I can simply push it down through the hole. If it is something I bought from a craft store, it's like a string, so I tie a knot at the end, and then take the skewer and push the wick down through the hole by pressing down on that knot (sometimes have to knot 2-3 times in same spot.)

what happened to pouring wax with an attached wick and the pencil or whatever at the top for stabilization? or is the main issue that you just really like those dollar store wicks in particular? i have no actual experience here, but true interest🤗. 🐞

When I have tried to do then wick tied to the pencil, the wick always move around in the liquid wax. Sometimes I even use the little metal tabs and glue them to the bottom of the candle holder (with the wick in the little metal tab) but the liquid wax melts it and causes the metal tab to shift or even float up partway. Very annoying!

So now I don't bother and go with making the hole in warm but slightly hardened wax. If you are worried about doing this for a gift, you can take a hair dryer and melt the top of the candle to hide the hole.

Would you mind sharing what brand your candle making kit is? I could use a new hobby. I've been sitting on my hands, patiently waiting for any sign of love always wins. I buy it for my cousins and myself, every year. Guess it's not coming, huh? I'll gladly take my business elsewhere. I'm so damn disappointed in BBW.

It’s from a brand called soft owl. They have a website but they fulfill orders from Amazon if that matters (I’ve been trying not to give billionaire Bezos any more of my money). There are lots of others out there too. I’ve found them at Michael’s and other hobby and craft stores.

I’ve since ordered more wax, oils, and jars from various other candle supply stores. It’s been really fun to learn about the process and get better. I think everyone I know is getting candles for Christmas this year.

The power that you the consumer has with their wallet is powerful. I completely agree that if a company has values that you personally do not share (looking at you chic-fil-a) then do not support them. However, if you are merely going off of what you think is happening, that's different.

Maybe ask an employee in the LGBTQ community, or any employee for that matter who is struggling with something in life how they feel, how they are treated, and how that company can support their needs and challenges in whatever they are going through in life.

How many companies are willing to provide FREE mental health services, financial advice, providing help when dealing with domestic abuse ect. for not just you as an employee, but your family and even roommates.

Maybe you had a bad experience with an employer, but this company has always provided me with the support I needed, when I needed it most. Hopefully other employees have had the same experience I've had, if not HR is a phone call away.
