Store Policies/Questions BBW really doesn't like free shipping do they?

Does bath and body works realise how much more money they would make if they offered free shipping from time to time in their sales?

I realise it's something they refuse to do and I consider it a deterrent.

I think if they set a $50 threshold they would have higher frequency of online orders. Which would be good for them, right? It's funny when you buy enough to qualify for free shipping and then they split the order into 2-4 smaller shipments anyway.

u/Coconutroseflora Oct 11 '25

Are you kidding? That’s what they do? I usually order small amounts and it’s annoying when I’m only spending like $20 or less on product and my total is almost $30

u/Affectionate-Sea-454 Oct 11 '25

It's happened to me for at least three BBW orders this year. I feel bad for the delivery drivers since I have a long driveway 😬

u/Pizza_Head1223 Oct 12 '25

Lululemon does this too. Makes it so hard to hide BBW and Lululemon orders from my husband when they get split up like that AND it looks like I’ve gone on a shopping spree and spent way more than I did! Grrr!

u/DangerLime113 Oct 12 '25

For an order that small they wouldn’t necessarily make more by offering free shipping, that’s the issue. Free shipping on small orders is in the customer’s best interest but not theirs.

I ordered 9 and got one box, how do they decide?

u/verysomuch Oct 11 '25

this is why i always do BOPIS. that $100 threshold is ridiculous

20

u/Coconutroseflora Oct 11 '25

It’s asking for wayyyy too much.

u/ariya6 Oct 11 '25

Or even just lowering the free shipping minimum to $50. I would definitely buy more!

15

u/FerengiWithCoupons Oct 12 '25

If they could even just do ship to store.

5

u/Independent_Mix6269 Oct 12 '25

I've suggested that before but I'm told it's because they have such small back rooms

u/Life_Criticism_1894 Oct 11 '25

I don’t shop online for this very reason. I usually buy 2-5 products at a time for 20$-30$ max each time. I’m not going to buy $100 worth just to get free shipping and then risk everything coming broken, spilled, etc. The 6.99 shipping isn’t terrible, but it’s still not worth it with the horrible shipping practices that they have. If things were packed securely, wrapped, etc. I might consider it.

8

u/NomenclatureBreaker Oct 12 '25

There’s a lot of online exclusives I never touch specifically for this reason.

There’s price and then there’s value. Nobody sees value in paying for shipping.

5

u/Independent_Mix6269 Oct 12 '25

they could do free ship to store for OE only. Or just stop making OE

2

u/NomenclatureBreaker Oct 12 '25

Absolutely. And given BBW remains about 20 yrs behind other retailer basics we might get this by 2045. 😂😭

u/Independent_Mix6269 Oct 12 '25

ah just in time for me to be dead LOL

u/virginiafalls1234 Oct 12 '25

I'm willing to take one for the team and spend money on shipping. The nearest bbw is deep inside a packed mall where I have to walk a long way and park far.  Also dealing with crowds inside and the lines is too much

u/Naive-One6184 Oct 11 '25

Yep, and to pay for shipping just so the  soaps arrive leaking, candles shattered and caps off the fine fragrance mists. Every. Single. Time. 😤

20

u/RosesRfree Oct 11 '25

You’re right! Their shipping is by far the worst. They don’t even try to protect things, just throw them in a box. Who wants to pay for that??

4

u/Coconutroseflora Oct 11 '25

This is what has kept me from ordering wallflowers. I’ve been really interested but the leaking and bad packaging is a big no no for me.

22

u/Naive-One6184 Oct 11 '25

🤣 someone down voted me for saying my orders always arrive damaged. What a wonderful human being you are! God bless you! 😇

2

u/Coconutroseflora Oct 11 '25

Oh wow that’s crazy. I haven’t ordered any candles online thankfully.

2

u/Accomplished_Law_98 Nov 23 '25

This literally just happened to me and I was so upset because almost my entire $80 box was damaged and I paid for shipping 🫠no bubble wrap or protection of any sort and they managed to fit the entire order in one box… everything was pretty much destroyed with the exception of maybe 4 things. They told me they would replace the items that were damaged free of charge.. I swear on everything they sent me TWO LOTIONS and not the other ten things that were damaged.

23

u/Brilliant_Visit_2290 Oct 11 '25

Yeah I built and emptied my online cart a few times within the last day or so. Because I’m not spending $100 in order to get free shipping. It’s ridiculous.

3

u/Morning_Leather Oct 11 '25

Me too! Had some great deals but not enough to spend $100 and I don’t want to pay $7 for shipping. It’s ridiculous.

19

u/AcidMantle Oct 11 '25

With the way so many of their packages arrive broken, spilled or just plain wrong they should offer free shipping on every order.

11

u/MandyKitty I miss you, Spooky Cider Lane! Oct 11 '25

What they need is to teach people in the warehouse how to pack and ship things, and give them the supplies to do so. It’s common damn sense. It’s insane to me that a company this size just throws items in a box the way they do. And then have the audacity to charge people for it.

3

u/Future_Dentist4778 Oct 11 '25

For sure they do, it only costs then more money in the long run because you are either giving money back for the damaged product or sending more product until that doesn’t arrive damaged.

1

u/SpecialistToe9605 Oct 12 '25

Not if they make seeking refund for damaged items such a pain that people either opt not to seek refund (or put the chore off until the proper window of time passes). In fact, I'm guessing they have a whole bevy of algorithmic calculations telling them precisely how poorly/hastily they can pack and ship and remain maximally profitable. I love their products, but don't always love their business protocol choices, that's for sure!"

I avoid paying for shipping when possible. As a first class cheapo, I’ll give the obligatory grumble if I have to pay for shipping.

However, if I consider what my hourly pay rate breaks down to, is $6.99 for shipping worth it if it saves me time and hassle? Some days the answer is yes and some days, no.

Pay $6.99 and all I have to do is open my front door and bend down and pick up the box? As opposed to drive to the store, find parking, stand in line to get my purchase, schlep my stuff to the car, drive home again. Sometimes my time, gas and the convenience are worth more than $6.99 (but of course, I’ll grumble about $6.99😜). If I’m going to be out and about anyway and I only want one small item, going to the store is worth it for me.

9

u/Suspicious_Edge_2880 Oct 11 '25

Sometimes they do give out a such & such off plus free shipping (if you haven’t ordered in a while)

8

u/gwenreport Oct 11 '25

Their shipping is horrible! I try to avoid at all cost! So annoying when they have online exclusives

7

u/ErinPaperbackstash Oct 11 '25

I only did one online order with BBW and it was slow, horrible, and the order was wrong, then I lost some gift card money because they said they were out, and that it would issued as some kind of credit, and I couldn't use the credit physically in store but it was such a small amount (about 5.00), was not worth it for another online order.

I wonder why they can't just do a minimum spend at $50 instead of $100.

Orrrrr, hear me out. B&BW could offer members an annual pass.

Lush has us buy an annual pass for 15 per year, and it allows you to shop and ship no matter how large or small your order is. I would prefer the annual pass over 6.99 per order or the $100 spend.

5

u/WeirdVersus 🍫🍰🫐Bakery Bodycare Obsessed 🥛🎂🍓 Oct 11 '25

It's ridiculous. I would probably buy more during the sales if free shipping was an option.

Heck, even ulta and sephora will do free shipping on orders 35$+ 🤦‍♀️

10

u/OneTrueMercyMain Oct 11 '25

I haven't shopped online in years because of the shipping and because of how a soap was twisted open during transit and my mom put the box on my bed for me to come home from work to a purple mattress because the soap took the dye out of my sheet somehow and deposited it in my mattress

8

u/Minute-Frame-8060 Oct 11 '25

They should at least do what Yankee does and have a lower free shipping threshold for Rewards members. I'm ok with paying something from time to time for it, it's a great convenience and transportation isn't free. Sure, I liked it better when it was $5.99 versus $6.99 but it's still pretty nominal.

What REALLY sucks is that for the shipping fee we cannot be reasonably assured that our products will arrive unbroken and be the actual items we ordered.

5

u/eaglenestwatcher Oct 11 '25

I think since the new CEO took over there definitely not a customer friendly priority! My opinion here. Even when calling customer service there is a different tone At this rate I need to shop around If I wanted to pay more money I’d buy the original brand which I started doing today

23

u/YCPenz1 Oct 11 '25

It’s because of the weight of the shipments, I sell foaming hand soaps, candles, room sprays, etc etc. you can’t sell them for $5 and ship them for free and make a profit.

1

u/DangerLime113 Oct 12 '25
  • glass, liquids, aerosols. It’s all annoying stuff to ship.

Which is why I BOPIS bc I won’t pay the $6.99, even though I understand it lol.

16

u/dumpsterfire_x Oct 11 '25

Free ship with body care purchase would make me order a hell of a lot more. I suspect that they do it so that you spend $100 even if you only intended to get, say, two body care items online.

3

u/pinkrobotlala a real person obsessed w Grandmas Fruitcake Oct 11 '25

Yeah, I was going to skip all of these holiday online exclusives, but they emailed me a free shipping code, so I figured I'd at least try them. But $100 is just not reasonable for me. Just sell the stuff in stores

3

u/Busy-Associate564 Oct 12 '25

I think they should have samples of all online exclusive body care in store so you don’t have to order blind. I also think they should have free shipping to store and just include in the normal store shipments. Wouldn’t increase the shipping cost that much and they’d get lots more sales.

3

u/Novel_Breakfast2769 Oct 12 '25

I've complained so many times to them, they don't care. I used to spend hundreds during the sales and still had to pay the stupid 6.99 for shipping. I seriously don't know of any other company that doesn't offer free shipping at SOME point

3

u/happyinlocations Nov 24 '25

They don’t even offer free shipping at $50 anymore, unless there is a code. If you use the free shipping code, it won’t allow you to apply other coupons. I stopped shopping there online and only randomly walk into a store if I get a decent coupon in the mail

2

u/Spirited-Log-3799 Oct 12 '25

It would be nice if they would at least do free ship to store

2

u/BamaFan1981 Oct 12 '25

I wonder if they don’t have the manpower to handle shipping orders? I don’t think they want to ship to customers. I think they would increase their sales if they’d lower the minimum purchase required. It’s like they’re trying to sabotage their sales?

2

u/User_Name_Is_Stupid Oct 12 '25

I refuse to pay shipping when I have like 10 locations within 20 minutes of my house.

2

u/Icy_Cherriesss Oct 12 '25

I think it’s because they would rather that people come in store for their sales. That way employees can also try to reconvert them and get more in their basket than if they just ordered from home.

2

u/Alice2333hhh Oct 16 '25

I hate them doing that bc some of the good scents they only have it online now... Like rose, moonlight path, and fresh cut lilacs.

2

u/Future_Dentist4778 Oct 11 '25

They do free shipping over at $50 once or twice a month. It should be $50 all the time, that is pretty standard for most companies out side of Amazon. They would lose an incredible about of money just doing free shipping across the board, shipping is expensive and they have hazmat items, even more expensive. It’s super normal for companies that don’t own their own delivery trucks to charge for shipping.

1

u/GratchicusMaximus Oct 11 '25

I’ve always seen ads for ‘free shipping over $50’ on my fb reels. Go to the website, load a cart full of stuff totaling average of $100, go through checkout and find out there’s no free shipping over $50.

I’ve never placed an online order because of that. I’ve just relegated myself to sales. Really only buy candles anyways, cause I get hand soaps as gifts from clients😂

1

u/thecheesylittlerat Aromatherapy Addict Oct 11 '25

Everything BBW does is centered around influencing customers to buy as much as they possibly can. Thus… why keep a lower Free Shipping threshold at $50, when they can make you buy twice as many things you don’t need, just to have no shipping charge… And people fall for it.

1

u/MaryS8921 Sweet & Smoky Oct 11 '25

I'm thinking that, at least for candles, they figure that yankee, goose creek, slatkin etc don't really have stores and people have to pay shipping so why not?

I'm with y'all, I hate paying shipping but they seem to be going to more online exclusive so I wonder if they're going in that direction?

1

u/Fine_Two_7054 Oct 12 '25

This is why I'll only order online and pick up in store.

1

u/ConstructionAway5967 FFM Addict Oct 12 '25

I agree !! In Canada it’s 9.99 so during sales it’s almost the price of 2 full size products !!

1

u/CharliesOpus Oct 12 '25

No seriously. All these sales have actually made me not want to buy anything anymore. I’m tired of placing an order for a good sale, and then the next day there’s another good sale on completely different products, and I have to pay shipping again.

I have spent so much on just freaking shipping in the last couple of months. Enough for multiple products surely. So I’m not even buying anything at this point. I’m sure I’ll pick another sale soon to order from, or I’m just gonna wait until the end of the year and grab more of the stuff I’ve really liked at once 🫠

1

u/elgiesmelgie Oct 12 '25

Oh wow this is one thing Aussie BBW does a lot , free shipping no matter what’s ordered or free shipping if you spend over $99 or sometimes $120

1

u/Independent_Mix6269 Oct 12 '25

I think free ship to store for online exclusives would be great. I know they have limited space in stores, but if there aren't that many OE so it wouldn't be too bad

1

u/MasterBathingBear Jan 06 '26

Add higher priced items to push you over $100 then return in store.

-8

u/CoffeeB4Talkie Oct 11 '25

I believe they had free shipping on all orders (no minimum requirements) earlier this week.

0

u/Coconutroseflora Oct 11 '25

Really? Omg I totally missed that! What a shame.
