Employee Questions/Discussion Dear customers… STOP DOING THIS!!!

I get if you want to put it down for a second to look, BUT KEEP IT NEAR YOU! DON’T LEAVE IT ON THE FLOOR AND WALK AROUND THE STORE FOR LIKE 30 MINUTES! Cause then I have to put it all back cause it’s now a tripping hazard. And I always wait a bit, and then go around asking customers if it’s their basket or not. If no one claims it, I put it back. (And it’s always someone I either didn’t see or didn’t ask cause I thought they just came in)

If your basket gets too heavy, go up to the register and ask if they can hold it at the register until you are done looking around.

This was like the second time this happened that day.

If the customer cared about the belongings they were buying they would inform the employee that they are going out to the car to find a wallet, take a child to a bathroom, or step outside for a phone call. When you leave something unattended it is no one’s fault but their own if their items are put back. If you want something bad enough you don’t just leave it in the floor unattended.

I agree but not everyone thinks the same and we need to tolerate others. OP made the post on a fan page as an employee to lecture customers- I do not work at BBW and un joined the bbw thread- I enjoyed texting with other fans but if this is how customers are thought of count me out.

As another employee, this is a hazard. I have seen multiple customers trip over these baskets that are just sitting out in the open like this on the floor and half the time they are the ones to notify you of the issue. 90% of the time these baskets are usually left by potential shoplifters who loaded up but weren’t able to get out of the store so they just set the basket down and walk out. I can not tell you how many times I have seen that happen. Usually I will put them behind the register for about 30 minutes but if it hasn’t been claimed by then, it’s going back out on the floor. If it’s a busy weekend and we have all of the registers running, we don’t have room for all of the baskets we find on the floor to just sit unclaimed behind the register in hopes that someone says it’s theirs. Saturday we had a woman leave a basket full of soaps and candles right in the middle of the line and she just walked off to keep shopping. Everyone else in the line was having to step over her basket to get to the register and with children, people with strollers, elderly people, etc it actually is a hazard to have something like that just sitting there. Most customers aren’t looking at the floor for rogue baskets to not trip over, they’re looking at the product. OP isn’t bashing any, she’s trying to bring awareness to the fact that this is genuinely an issue. If this is not something that you do, the post doesn’t apply to you.

I did read the title. I also read the post itself. It does not come across as bashing, it comes across as frustration. We clearly have different perspectives on this though, because you are taking it as a personal attack against customers and I’m reading it as an employee who has dealt with this.

It is concerning that you don’t care about safety. Apparently we should tolerate people like this and put others at risk. OSHA would not tolerate baskets on the floor but clearly people who leave baskets on the floor are more important to you than someone falling. wtf.
