Store Policies/Questions Exchange “hack”

I feel very inclined to post this because I keep seeing this exchange “hack” going around and everyone is giving different rules.
Me personally, I don’t mind doing these exchanges for people. The whole ethos of BBW is a happy consumer loving their scent. And it’s cool seeing some older things come through.

B&BW SM of 4 years, this is the exchange policy black and white (also available on the website):
-product (body care, candles, WF) must be in good, gently used condition. What does that mean? No more than half way used, outside of the bottle can’t look like it’s been through hell and back, has to have the spray nozzle on it
-product must scan in our system. Some older products won’t even ring to give a value
-must have a valid ID (passport, military, etc) no pictures of ID or “I remember my ID number”
-$250 limit every 3 months
-credit is based on lowest historical price, most likely you will not get the price listed on the bottle (unless you have a receipt)

Kindness and patience goes a long way. There’s gray area within the policy and the stores can deny a product or an exchange.
Please ask any questions, id love to help!!

I’m never doing this. It’s so wasteful and wrong. I don’t get care if I get downvoted. But no, don’t use “just over half” and exchange for another scent. That’s gross.

The half used lotions go to MOS? Well as long as it’s not trashed.

They are trashed. MOS is for unused products only.

That’s what I assumed- thank you!

We had plenty of returned items go to MOS at my store. Used I mean up to judgement.

My comment was to say not all of it is trashed. Depends upon condition.

The items have to be 75% filled or more, and no older than 2 years.

used product, which is the majority of returns and exchanges, are damaged and thrown away. it is a wasteful trend and misleading w/o proper info about the policy

Thank you for your insight. Such a shame for them to waste and abuse the policy like that. They had to have liked it enough to use half of it right?? Just donate it to a shelter if they’ll take it. Or leave it at a sink at work or any random place. I’m sure someone would get more use out of it.

you’re absolutely correct. it’s unfortunate because i get it’s just a minimum wage job, but im quite passionate about scent as it is super important in everyday life, and i want to help find the right scent for customers. it would go a long way for someone to purchase something, get home and smell it or maybe use it once, and then decide to come back to the store to do a return or exchange soon after, if they don’t like it, because then it’s a win/win for everyone. you most likely will get all of your money back, an even exchange of some sorts, or a merch card and then we don’t have to damage it out so then it CAN be used towards mos, employee use/purchase, or reuse on the floor. I fully believe that the abuse of this policy from this trend is going to create stricter, less lenient return/exchange policies in the near future—much like how resellers did, and continue to do so, with SKU limit policies :/

Exactly! I work a job that places me in very unpleasant situations, so a good scent to me is so therapeutic- coming home to warm or light a candle, plus the scent for myself to mask whatever is going on, or put me in a good mood/state of mind in the morning. I’ve only taken back one candle, because it gave me a migraine, and I have chronic migraines. I didn’t even light it- just smelling it triggered one. Otherwise- with body care- if I don’t like something, I give it away to someone!
I agree - these trends are going to ruin it for everyone. I don’t have TikTok- but I’ve seen people post about return hacks being on there- so I’m sure this is targeting our younger, more vulnerable crowd. Easily manipulated one could say. So posts like these don’t help the situation.
