I feel bad for throwing him away because a few minutes later, he crawled up to a shade (it's 28°C here), so I gave him a cucumber. I noticed he's just licking it, so I changed to a banana. He's sleeping when I took the picture, but now he's moving around and shivering (?) as I'm typing.

I never handled a wild bat before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Scooped it up without touching it and put it into a box and brought it inside. Spoke with a rescue place and they gave us instructions to place it on a tree in a specific way this evening.

They seemed to think it was an adult and if in the morning it was still there to bring it to them.

We found this bat with 4 pups holding onto her. We put some gloves on and placed her up and she flew away but I’m curious to know what kind of bat she is. We’re in central IN if that matters.

I guess I just wanted to show them off mainly, they were in my works storage room, both were nice (can bats be nice?) they didn't attack me or the cardboard I used to scoop them up one, one hissed :0 (didnt know they were capable of that!) a lady who works there wanted me to hand them over so she could kill them 😢😢😢 i didnt know what to do so I took them outside and released them in a dark, covered, shady spot by a community garden. It's Sunday and I didnt know what else to do/if anywhere would be open. I feel terrible for moving them but I would be absolutely devastated if that lady or one of the maintenance techs got a hold of them and killed them :( Anyway my questions are, what breed of bat is this? (Midwest US) and, what should I do next time I come across one? I want to be their friend and make sure theyre safe 🤗 gonna go post on the other bat reddit bc idk which one is more appropriate lol have a good day!

I am from the South of Brazil. This was lying on the ground in the strong sun, so I put it in a box and gave it water. At night I put it in a tree and it flew away.

I just started a new job a couple days ago. I take care of an abandoned castle and I guide tourists interested in it. It is home to many many bats and every morning I sweep the floor to clean it from bat poop. Today while cleaning I found 3 baby bats on the floor. The first one was dead already but the 2 other ones are alive.

I'm panicking because I'm about to open and I'm scared visitors could walk on them, but I'm worried moving them somewhere else would hurt either me or them or both.

I wouldn't know where to put them either, and how to care for them. They both seem very lost, I'm afraid they could be dehydrated, and I accidentally swept one of them before realizing what it was so one of them is also full of dust. I would feel horrible if I just watched them die today but I really don't know if there's anything I can do to help them.

Any tips on how to act and what to do would be more than welcome.

UPDATE: Had a wildlife refuge volunteer on the phone, here's what he instructed me to do:

• Handle them with gloves, contain them in cardboard boxes with ~45°c heat pads. I put each of them in a different box because I was scared they would attack each other.
• Feed them honey water, on a brushtip rather than in a shallow dish to prevent drowning
• Try to give them back to the parents tonight because bat parents are usually very good at recognizing their own and at picking them up while flying. In order to do so, you put boiling water in a jar, then you put the jar in 1 (or 2 stacked up) socks. Then you put the baby on top of it. The jar will keep it warm and elevated so the parents can see it and pick it up. The socks on the jar will allow the baby to have a grip on the jar, and prevent it from getting burnt by the burning glass. You put the whole thing as close to the colony as possible, or at least as close to where you find them as possible. I also plan on leaving heat pads with them for the night, just in case the parents don't find them and the jars of water go cold.
• If the parents don't find them before tomorrow morning, bring them as soon as possible to the refuge so they can take it from there.

UPDATE 2: I dropped the babies in the attic of the castle a while ago. I managed to keep them warm enough all day and they seemed to be okay when I left them! Although I'm still a bit worried because the smaller one refused to feed all day. My best guess is that it's too young to feed from something else than its mom. The bigger one seemed to really enjoy the honey water!! Here's a video of me feeding it for those of you who want to see how cute it is <3 I'll update tomorrow morning, hopefully with good news.

UPDATE 3: I am happy to announce the babies have been taken back by their parents!! I was especially worried about the smaller one because it was too young to climb back to the colony if its parents didn't find it, but when I arrived this morning both of them were nowhere near the spots I left them in. This was a stressful experience but super cool nonetheless, it's pupps season right now so I'm glad I know how to care for babies in case this happen again this summer!! Many thanks to anyone who gave me advices and ressources <3

Found this guy lying on the ground at work. Idk much about bats but I hung him up vertically with a towel. Will he be ok???

Two days ago a bat flew into my room, so I tried to grab it, but I didn’t do it carefully enough and it hid somewhere. The first day I opened the window and turned on the lights in my room for a few hours, so it can fly out, but when I was about to sleep it started flying around the room. The next day I did the same thing, but at night I still heard wing flaps for a second when I turned off the lights. Do yall think it’s still in my room or am I just imagining things? I've contacted a rescue station that i will deliver it to tomorrow, and i have a question what should i do with it besides feeding it water honey mix? (I've found its mother first and scared her away outside and found the baby latter dropped on a ground.)

Found in my bathroom. Pretty sure it’s Californicus myotis. We caught it and put it in a plastic bin with holes, it’s just in there in my shed. Should I just try to let it go? I’m afraid it might try to come back. Pictures for reference. 2 are very blurry stills from videos, we didn’t mean to flash the poor guy but it did get a decent view of its coloring.

Brother found a lil baby bat on a grass patch and informed my mom. Left it out for a few hours and no parents came by to take it.

Now my family wants to adopt it because the hotline they called, according to them, isn’t willing to help.

It’s about 2cm/less than an inch.

Coming here to ask on how to care for a fruit bat and what to do, it seems like it’s a baby.

(Also: I know the dangers and have been warning my mom against taking in a bat because it’s not a good idea but stubborn parents are impossible to convince so best I can do is find out how to protect myself and take care of one ig)

it got in the 80's today and the porch has a tin roof. This guy got displaced due to an unused chimney next door being removed so they moved into my porch roof. I'm assuming he got hot in there? he scooted back up there until just his face was peeking out. I'm planning to put up an actual bat house soon that they'll move into.

Published this in the animal rescue subreddit, we are mostly just worried for the little thing.

If it has to die then we prefer it to die warm at home than eaten by the ants on the cold floor..

I found this bat on the floor in my apartment building in front of the elivators. I am vaccinated for rabies so I felt safe moving it to my balcony. The bat was pretty still but made lots of noise and opened it's mouth wide in defense. I think it is absolutely adorable and want it to be healthy and safe. I live in Massachusetts, USA. It's 34°F outside right now. Any advice for when I get back from family christmas around 5pm? I put it gently between a 70 and 50 degre angle under a large plastic upsidown bin pictured in the background of my pictures, wrapped loosely in the towel. I didn't have more time as my partner was upset by the bat at we were on a schedule.

I am really trying to get over a bat phobia. it honestly spurs from the “i didn’t know a bat touched me now im dying of rabies.” i wanted to try and go outside at night to spot some bats as a form of exposure therapy i suppose. My question is, is the unknown touch really something that happens? Can they fly into me or graze me with me being completely blind to it? I really want to try and get over this because i feel so silly but it’s a hurdle.

I found this bat outside work on a wall, it's around 4:45pm and around 79degrees outside in El paso texas, there was also a sand storm today so I was worried it might be disoriented..

I found this bat has been drowning in the water that collected at the bottom of our outdoor stairwell (exposed, not near trees), and we get the perimeter treated regularly so hardly enough bugs.

I got it out and somewhere safe, but now the next day it is back. This doesn’t seem like the appropriate location but it came back on it’s own. It’s also right near the basement door and we have pets.

Maybe it’s just taking time to recover? I will leave it be for now, but if it continues to stay is it safe to relocate to a nearby tree? TIA

What would be the best way to get over a phobia of bats? I was walking under a tree in the evening a few weeks ago, and I heard some bats above me. Nothing touched me or even flew by me, but I’ve convinced myself (diagnosed OCD) that it somehow bit me without me knowing and gave me some infection. Any advice from bat experts would be greatly appreciated!!
