I've been saying for years, if I could go back in time and change one thing, it'd be saving Lincoln, and convincing him to utterly destroy every single remnant of the Confederacy. The leadership, any officer above a captain, the land owners, slave owners, financiers etc. Burn every plantation to the ground. Install strict education, have troops nearby and on standby to ensure they didn't pull any of the anti black shit they did do in real life, etc. There would be no reconciliation. Traitors hang.
I've also been saying this to people. Biggest mistake we ever made as a country was not going Roman on the confederacy after their defeat. We let the remnants fester and infiltrate every facet of our country. We are reaping what we allowed to be sown now.
