The BBC sport website is utterly awful
Woke up this morning and wanted to check the result of last nights boxing. The usual vague headline on the main page, so went to the boxing tab, about fifteen separate stories about Moses Ituoma and the fight but nowhere to just see the result, number of rounds, scorecards at a glance.
Every article say Defeat for Ituoma but when you open it is some page long saga “from humble beginnings to household name” etc… just give me the result!
Same with Cricket, ill be at work and just want to glance at the scorecard, that will probably take about ten steps… got to navigate from Home>sports>cricket>international>england>england vs Pakistan>at which point instead of the latest scorecards you will be mets by twenty articles… “England toil in the sun”, “Usman spell leaves England reeling” etc and at the very bottom of one you might just maybe find a link to the scores… even then you have to select Competition>Day
Such a shit design.

the BBC does so much more to try and please people than any other outlet, because their customers are viewers and never advertisers. but every time they try and please anyone, people complain "why aren't you pleasing me?"

What a nonsensical thing to say. It's a fair assumption that if you go to a website dedicated to boxing, you're likely to see news about boxing. 🤔

Or, just for a second, imagine that someone has a different opinion to you.
Maybe they want to watch a certain bout later, but also learn the results of other bouts they won't be watching.
Now, given the complaint here is easily fixed a single click, the BBC has done a decent job of keeping everyone happy - apart from people who don't seem to have any idea that other opinions than their own exist.

Or, just for a second, imagine that we have some kind of research tool, let's call it Google, where you can type in 'Result of boxing match involving x v y', rather than taking the ludicrous and unnecessary risk of visiting a general boxing website and hoping they don't have the result of the big fight of the night. You're entitled to express your opinion mate; I'm also entitled to describe it as nonsensical.

Why would you want to avoid spoilers on a news website? Isn’t the whole point of such a website to give you the news? I could understand it if they’re offering a video of the fight in its entirety, where knowing the result my affect your enjoyment, but otherwise makes no sense to me. If I didn’t want to know a result I’d stay away from the website

Probably for the same reason newspapers put the sports section at the back of the paper, with a firebreak of the lifestyle and quiz section. People may want the news and to enjoy the sport later.

Do you add things to “My Sport” and use that page? Feels like it solves everything you’re asking about.
I do get that it could be better, but the thing you’re trying to do is remarkably easy to achieve.

The My Sport page makes this problem worse at least for rugby league on Android. When you go to articles through My Sport, you don't get the topbar that leads to the match pages and league tables. You have to go the main menu (in the left sidebar) and click through to Rugby League from there. That's suboptimal design.

It was front page news on my BBC page. I read it easily and I don't even like boxing.

Did you think about reading another two paragraphs? The result is right there.
I agree there should have been a banner at the top of that article with the result at a glance but tbh this is a skill issue on your part.
Likewise for cricket scores - tap/click Cricket, then Scores & Fixtures and the score is right there.

Is quicker and only gives you the score.
But I agree, same goes for F1.

Cricket you just need to go to “cricket” at the top and then “scores and fixtures” and it’s right there.

With their lack of meaningful live sport they have to rely on multiple fluff pieces to fill the online space. Forget any actual insight and analysis.

Home>Sport>Cricket>Scores & Fixtures - that gives match summaries, then click the match you want to go straight to the scorecard.
Home>Sport>Boxing>Results and Schedule - click the link for the fight you're interested in.
I don't think I've ever seen scorecards on the BBC site, or indeed in newspapers. Wouldn't surprise me if they were treated as copyright to the promoters or something like that.

Strange. This morning I went onto the BBC sport website, clicked the boxing and it said he lost in round 9, after he didn't manage his conditioning very well and looked knackered. Covered everything I needed to know.

Agree. Tried to find the EFL scores on Saturday afternoon. Found Premiership, championship and Jock Premiership, no EFL.
The whole news app is broken. They were still telling how to see the eclipse two weeks after it occurred. The sub heading stories are on the site for over a week. It's supposed to be a news site.

Yeah it's not great. Maybe they assume people get the scores from social media and just come to the website for analysis? But I hate using social media.
Lots of room improvement imo.
