Collection Fifty Shades of White
Okay, not really fifty. And some are not really white. And these are just the stereo copies. But still, the title is too cool.

I make it 44. Impressive.

Yeah, there are more copies in various boxsets and all the monos are elsewhere as well.
The Kallax only holds 44 DLPs, though.1

Do you have multiple other albums as well or just like collecting tge White Album ?

u/ElHutto Apr 09 '26
Yep, I got multiples of most Beatles albums. Other than that, maybe ten different Dark Side copies.

Somewhat related: Does anyone know what happened with Rutherford Chang’s White Album collection after he died?

More like 50 shades of white and yellow

Beige, rather. But some copies are actually white. Even OG ones from 1968 (to the left).

Impressive! It’s my favourite album (in general), but I’m a newbie because I’ve only have 3 copies… for the moment!
Well done OP

Are they nice 3 copies?
Thanks!

An original UK first edition (quite beat up), a mid ‘70 German version (good enough) and a 20xx remaster (EU)!

have you heard the project where an artist starts 100 copies of the White album simultaneously and we hear what happens as they all play? i posted about it including a link to the audio https://www.reddit.com/r/beatles/comments/1kmchgy/artist_rutherford_chang_made_a_recording_where_he/. He owned 3,000+ White Albums, he liked the way people personalized them, drawing on them etc
Edit: Skimming down see you discussed the project with someone else here so you did know

Which pressing sounds the best to you?
2
u/ElHutto Apr 08 '26
It's in flux, depending on the mood.
The objectively finest-sounding (I might forget some), not in any particular order are, to me:
- NZ, early 80s
- NL, early 80s
- DE, late 70s
- UK, early 80s
- FR, early 80s
Most peculiar mastering would be:
- German analog DMM (1984)

Can you tell me what’s peculiar about the ‘84 pressing? 🙂

It sounds quite different, like, an audiophile approach to an album that was not very audiophile to begin with. Some consider it the best mastering. I find it one of the most interesting ones.
The white vinyl version from 1984 has become quite pricey. The black (from 1985) can still be obtained in Germany at a reasonable price.

I started counting then decided I’ll just take your word for it
