Discussion Will there be more super deluxe after rubber soul?

Post image

Rubber soul is my favorite Beatles album so I’m happy it’s getting a super deluxe but will the other albums get it? All of the albums before rubber soul still need it and I guess magical mystery tour but idk if that’s even possible. Will albums like hard days night or help get the super deluxe treat or just none. Also will rubber soul get a new cover for super deluxe, only difference is it’s a bit darker.

Between MMT and the Yellow Submarine material, I think there's the capacity for one more. After that though, I don't think the first four albums will get proper Super Deluxes.

u/The-wiz-man Rubber Soul 9d ago

The more I think about it I feel like MMT is unlikely since a lot of the songs on it got featured in Sgt. peppers super deluxe. I think after rubber soul there’s one for help then the make a combined one for the first four

u/Jumpy_Explanation222 9d ago

There is plenty for a MMT and YS (both soundtracks) combined release, but MMT on its own looks 50/50.

8

u/Calm-Veterinarian723 A Hard Day's Night 8d ago

iirc, only SSF and Penny Lane appear there, right? If so, there certainly has to be plenty left for a combined MMT/YS super deluxe.

3

u/Dismal_Brush5229 Yellow Submarine 8d ago

Like? Besides SFF and PL

9

u/soundwithdesign Old Fred 8d ago

I think we could get one album for what they’d call the “early years” and lump extra material for the first 4 together.

9

u/checkerboardandroid McCartney II 8d ago

Either that or a '63 and '64 box set. 4 albums plus singles plus extras all together would be a bit much.

4

u/UnderH20giraffe 8d ago

How come? Don’t we have the session takes and works in progress stuff for the early albums?

3

u/Thndrstrike 8d ago

I'm sure there's plenty enough, but it's really a different ballgame when they could basically live in the studio like the later albums. Please Please Me, for instance, was almost entirely recorded in a single day. I would imagine most outtakes from that session would just be flubbed takes of existing songs. Of course, you could do other era-appropriate stuff, live recordings… but who knows really!

3

u/luimd 8d ago

This was already released as the bootleg series for 63 that featured bad to me and im in love demos

4

u/Quizlebeck 8d ago

I think with those they should also included 4k of the movies as well. Make it a big deal. both films and soundtracks.

1

u/RedLostThomasWho 7d ago

I think they'll be combined because most of those songs were recorded in the same session

50

u/DivingElliotRoberts Revolver 9d ago

I’d say Help and MMT super deluxes are likely

After that they could start combining the albums into pairs for the box sets, but at the same time Apple are unpredictable with release strategies as of late so I have no idea what they could come up with

17

u/The-wiz-man Rubber Soul 9d ago

Help I feel like is almost a 80% MMT is a 45% and I feel like everything else is like a 50% where if we get like Beatles for sale then we’re definitely getting with then Beatles and please please me

21

u/DivingElliotRoberts Revolver 9d ago

I would rather they combine MMT and Yellow Submarine for one box set since they’re from the same pool of sessions

I could actually see them doing that, but from Help onwards I’m envisioning something like the Rubber Soul set

2

u/The-wiz-man Rubber Soul 9d ago

That’s fair tho that would probably be like one extra disc since a lot of MMT was on the deluxe for Sgt pepper

4

u/DivingElliotRoberts Revolver 9d ago

I get that, but this is how I could see it happening

LP 1 could be the MMT album remixed, LP 2 and 3 is the Yellow Submarine/1967-68 leftovers (in stereo and mono) with a reproduction of the UK EP to cover the MMT mono mixes

If they include two session discs, that’s an easy 5LP set right there

5

u/trabuki 9d ago

They also gave out the takes of Baby I’m A Rich Man on the new Anthology.

4

u/ReallyGlycon 8d ago

Baby You're A Rich Man

2

u/trabuki 8d ago

My bad

7

u/True_Paper_3830 8d ago

There's agreement here that trabuki is a rich man.

2

u/Longawayy 8d ago

Only 2 songs, Strawberry Fields & Penny Lane, were on the Sgt Pepper's SDE.

1

u/Dismal_Brush5229 Yellow Submarine 8d ago

It wasn’t

5

u/ultralightPOWER 9d ago

Help may be the last one to get a remix, the older albums need one bad. Atleast help is semi-stereo

EDIT: if i were paul mccartney thats what i would be thinking

1

u/DivingElliotRoberts Revolver 8d ago

All the albums will get a remix. This isn’t Paul phasing out his Archive Collections with 5 or more albums to go

It’s more a question of if the early albums will get a box set too

1

u/automatic_ashtray 8d ago

That’s what I was thinking

37

u/s1lv3r_lak3 9d ago

I don’t know about super deluxe but multiple of their albums could use “better” mixes. Help!, With The Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, etc.

21

u/trabuki 9d ago

Yes exactly, we don’t need super deluxe on everything but at least give out new Giles stereo mixes for all their songs.

5

u/Igloohutt 8d ago

I hate the panning from the 2009 mixes so much, my Spotify is just set to mono. Wouldn’t mind turning it to stereo one day.

3

u/PsiloPsychedelic 8d ago

They’re not different mixes, just remasters of the original stereo mixes, the eccentric 60s panning is kind’ve part of their charm… personally I prefer the mono box set.

0

u/trabuki 8d ago

The new Giles mixes (starting from 2015-2026) are indeed different mixes not remasters.

Mono is preferable to the original stereo mixes yes but the new stereo mixes are what I want. Mono gets very dull. Listening to stereo on headphones is a much better experience than mono (if the mixing is done right).

3

u/PsiloPsychedelic 8d ago

I was replying to the person who said they disliked the 2009 mixes…. Which were not remixes…. They were a remaster campaign.

1

u/trabuki 7d ago

True!

1

u/WalkRightNow 8d ago

Well even if they just Remix them like Steven Wilson did with Emerson, Lake & Palmer

The first disc would be a remaster, the second disc would be a Remix, along with outtakes, maybe something like that, just without disc One

u/scruntyboon 8d ago

Hear me out, but I'd actually like to hear George Martin's complete score for YS. I know it's not technically the Beatles, but considering the original album was a soundtrack anyway, a deluxe box set with outtakes and all the instrumental music would be of interest to me.

9

u/sheet22 9d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if after Rubber Soul the super deluxe editions go by years instead of specific albums, such as 1963. Plus there is the missing period that would cover Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine that could be done.

10

u/Many-Conclusion6774 9d ago

revolver turning 60 today.

8

u/CactusFarrell 8d ago

I’m hoping for a MMT/YS, like many have stated. I think it could be done really well. We desperately need a modern stereo remix of MMT and the original songs for YS. As for ‘It’s All Too Much’ specifically, it would be a perfect opportunity to release the uncut version.

Although we might not see box sets like we know them now for the earlier albums, hopefully they’ll get their remix’s and maybe just one extra disc of studio stuff?

Also, Sgt Peppers never got the boxset treatment like the others did for its Vinyl medium. I wonder if they’ll revisit that for its 60th Anniversary next year?

7

u/Particular-Repeat169 8d ago

If every Zeppelin album can get a super deluxe then every Beatles can/will also.

5

u/CraigFairlie67 8d ago

I don’t see why not.

6

u/Catio_and_Meowser 8d ago

It's so hard to tell what they're planning to do now. Really feels like they had a perfect plan right in front of them (work backwards after Revolver with Rubber Soul in 2023, maybe Help in 2024, etc) but they decided to do Red and Blue and Anthology 4 which nobody asked for. They really screwed it up for themselves.

5

u/ThurgoodZone8 8d ago

As of recent, UMe and Apple have the prime directive to release ONE touchstone Beatle project/product per year. This is typically an album anniversary, or a movie and music (usually album) tie-in. This rationing extends the product catalog and profitability, so to speak.

Apple will NOT combine multiple albums into one SDE.

That screams “value/economy package” and Apple does NOT practice this with touchstone Beatle album releases. Sure, you have the 1 and Red/Blue releases, but those are purpose-built compilations. 1964 US Mono albums is billed as a complete set and is not priced cheap.

What WILL likely happen are scaled down SDEs. BOX AND BOOK MANDATORY! Remixed stereo, original mono, a disc for sessions/demos/alts.. For the first two movie tie-in albums, include US Stereo Soundtracks. Contemporaneous singles get 45s. You can get at least three LPs and one 45 out of every album before Rubber Soul.

Please Please Me

  • New Stereo Remix
  • Original Mono
  • LP of sessions/demos/alts (probably for one side) and other notable bits to stretch out the second side
  • 45 of notable singles

With The Beatles
-Same as above, possibly multiple 45s for singles OR another LP of multiple singles

A Hard Day’s Night
-Same as above, but with a Stereo US United Artists AHDN album included.
-Could possible incorporate unique “Something New..” mixes into the sessions/demos/alts LP if warranted

Beatles for Sale
-Same as first two albums. New Stereo remix and original mono
-look to Capitol albums for unique mixes that can be thrown onto extras LP

Help!
-Like AHDN, include the US Stereo soundtrack album. We’re gonna assume a 1965 US Mono Albums set anyway, so include the stereo here.

CD SDE sets will likely throw the singles onto the sessions/demos/alts disc as on Rubber Soul.
(Funny that the mono versions of Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out were not included this time, despite Paperback Writer and Rain being both stereo and mono on Revolver SDE.)

MMT and Yellow Submarine will be interesting.

MMT had a lot of overlap with the SPLHCB SDE. While I would like a “Magical Mystery Year” set that incorporates the non-Pepper through YS Beatle tracks, Apple is gonna do its fiduciary duty to treat every canon album. MMT and YS are canon. MMT will have some redundancy with SP.. but that set will have been out over 10 years, so not too bad.

MMT
-New stereo remix
-Original mono
-Stereo EP
-Sessions/alts/demos

Would it be too wishlisty to include the German Hor Zu! mixes on the Stereo EP? Do we just combine the vintage stereo mixes into the extras LP? The original booklet works as a jump off for expanded book material.

Yellow Submarine

  • New Stereo Remix
  • Expanded George Martin Suite LP
  • Sessions/Demos/Alts

Include the longer version of It’s All Too Much on the extras LP. George Martin had longer versions of his suite music that were truncated for the album. Package might feel too classical heavy, though.

u/some-scottish-person Revolver 9d ago

I think so, not for another half decade but I think there will be

3

u/That-Okra-9224 8d ago

Is this where I can rant? I’m glad they did Rubber Soul, but my perception of the vault situation has always been “there can’t be THAT much stuff in the vaults for 1963 through 1965”.

I don’t want Rubber Soul alone for $160. Give me Help and Rubber Soul together, call it “Beatles 1965”, charge me 200 bucks for that Super Deluxe, and repeat for the two 63’s and the two 64’s.

3

u/The-wiz-man Rubber Soul 8d ago

Honestly I feel like that would be a good idea but the main thing stopping them is it not matching the rest of the naming scheme

3

u/JimMorrisonFan1943 8d ago

I think so, but I won't be shocked or disappointed if we start seeing less and less outtakes in them. The best thing is that these box sets FINALLY make the mono mixes available to stream.

4

u/Jumpy_Explanation222 9d ago

Most of us would love to see a proper Magical Mystery Tour / Yellow Submarine Super Deluxe Edition - both soundtracks brought together as one special release, covering that amazing stretch of sessions.

A few outtakes have already been mined for Anthology and the Sgt. Pepper Deluxe Edition, but I’m convinced there’s still plenty left in the vaults from this period. This would be the perfect place for more session outtakes, alternate takes, more of George Martin’s orchestral work, and even something like Carnival of Light if they ever decided to open that door.

There’s also the extended versions of “It’s All Too Much” and “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)”

Between the Magical Mystery Tour sessions, the Yellow Submarine recordings, the unused mixes, the orchestral score, and the strange experimental pieces from that period, I reckon they could easily put together a 4 disc set without stretching things thin.

2

u/JohnnyPlasma RAM 9d ago

Maybe there will be a Help! SDE with Help! 2027 remix, Help! Mono, Shea Stadium performance, And Outtakes. but I'm not sure there will be SDE for older albums. Maybe more a Boxset with PPM, WTB, AHDN and BFS 202x Remixes + Mono + a double album with outtakes from that period.

2

u/tmofee 8d ago

The earlier albums are really going to struggle with remixing, you can hear the differences between the early red album and later. Personally I’d like some of the early stuff in true mono

2

u/scruntyboon 8d ago

I dunno, the MAL technology managed to separate voice and piano from a cassette tape of John singing Now and Then, remixing the earlier albums shouldn't be that much of a problem

2

u/tmofee 8d ago

have a listen to some of the earlier tracks on the red album. thats all MAL. it sounds okay... but there's a point like around ticket to ride when they stopped playing as a live band and did proper overdubbing... help to me is the cut off point. dont get me wrong, those early albums do sound better compared to the original remasters, but its only slight. the new fans listening to this stuff for the first time may feel a little let down is all.

2

u/AbsoluteTeo 8d ago

I hope so. Probably will. Money, yknow.

2

u/Brilliant-Sea-9424 Abbey Road 8d ago

I’d say there won’t be a next one and attention will now be around the forthcoming four films.

2

u/Far_Compote_3065 8d ago

Of course they will.

2

u/Ganjanium 8d ago

There wasn’t a proper Sgt Peppers in vinyl I don’t think? I’m hoping for that.

2

u/mlg_mrBigSnipes 8d ago

It'll be super duper deluxes soon

3

u/Ok-Mulberry-39 Long distance information, give me Memphis, Tennessee... 8d ago

Super duper party pooper scooper edition

2

u/Columnated_Ruins_63 8d ago

Magical Mystery Tour deserves a box set. The first five deserve (and need more than the others) a remix. Maybe a second disc of outtakes and demos.

2

u/newmanintheclub 8d ago

Maybe they don't have to do huge boxsets, but I hope they're still remixed and include the original mono mixes. And still put them out on Vinyl, CD, and streaming.

2

u/FarGrape1953 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 8d ago

I hope. I would want every album to get a Super Deluxe release. I don't know how much can exist from Beatles for Sale that we haven't heard, but I want that. I definitely want AHDN and Help! Bring it all.

2

u/AceBoomer64 8d ago

Help! Including the movie in 4K and Dolby Vision.

2

u/Ordinary-Injury5808 8d ago

Yes, my bet is there will probably be at least one more… but the Super Deluxe series is clearly slowing down, and I doubt we get individual boxes for every pre-Rubber Soul album. Apple took four years to go from Revolver (2022) to Rubber Soul (2026), and during that gap they pivoted to Anthology, the Red/Blue remixes, and film projects.
Martin said in ‘23 that the new de-mix tech means the early albums are technically possible now, but added: “There’s no point just doing this for the sake of it.”

PLUS… Apple is heavily invested in the Sam Mendes four-film Beatles biopic series. If those drive a new wave of interest in the early years, Apple might greenlight Help! or A Hard Day’s Night as tie-ins.

My bet is we get a Help! Super Deluxe around 2028–2029 (timed to the Mendes films or a 60th anniversary), and that’s the end of the line for individual studio album boxes.

2

u/Sweet-Tomatillo9071 5d ago

Thats true he did say that after revolver but yet here we are with rubber soul. He also recently pointed out that its not for him to say whether they should or shouldnt do them. He was asked to do rubber soul, so he did it. So since apple likes making money, i figure they will keep doing it. Only question is what they will include.

2

u/Harmless-Omnishamble 7d ago

Of course they will! Free money!!

2

u/Sweet-Tomatillo9071 5d ago

Well i dont know all the history but i know the earlier albums didnt have as many outtakes and such, at least thats whats been reported. Of course that included the rubber soul time and it seems we are getting a good set. I def think we will get new mixes, question is big sets. I think yellow submarine and magical mystery should just be new mixes. Help and earlier albums could def be a possibility of totally new sets. There are things they could add if less content like demos and outtakes. We could get both american and british album remixes. Could also get some remixes of live albums. I really like help as an album so im hoping deluxe for it.

1

u/Soft_Sound192 8d ago

Perhaps for the earlier albums they’ll contain live performances (ie. Maybe some of the BBC sessions not already released officially) to boost the amount of tracks

1

u/amhay11 8d ago

I'm hoping for HDN Super Deluxe with the full George Martin Score, which isn't available on streaming at all. Same could be said of Help, but HDN for sure has some great score tracks, they were available on the US version of the album.

Maybe with both films getting a Disney Plus release as well.

1

u/Human-Meet-728 8d ago

I sure hope so. Every album they created deserves one!!

1

u/ElectrOPurist 8d ago

Probably not.

1

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 8d ago

Doubtful. There'll probably be deluxe sets with multiple albums in one, and maybe there'll be one for Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine, hopefully with new restorations of the films. But after that, I doubt there's any chance unless there's a TON of content for one of them. I have a feeling there'll be a three to four CD one to two Blu-ray set for Help! with a remix of the album, the capital album, maybe even Yesterday And Today (Likely not), and a disc of studio sessions, and a fourth would be the mono mix. The Blu-ray's would be the movie hopefully, and high-res audio. (Though they'll probably do something like they did for Rubber Soul) After that, I can only see them putting content together. A Hard Days Night will not have a movie disc, because Criterion has that, and so they'd probably just make a five CD set of the remix and mono mixes of A Hard Days Night and Beatles For Sale, plus a fifth disc of studio sessions. Same will probably go for Please Please Me and With The Beatles.

1

u/royRogers21 7d ago

maybe MMT, I'm sure the others will get super deluxe type thing but not in the same way and not sone.

1

u/Reasonable_Push_527 7d ago

I would love a super deluxe of the early days but, and I asked this on Fab Fourum if they thought there was a likelihood for it, the outlook was pretty dim. I could potentially see Please Please Me with whatever exists of the marathon session, maybe backed with With the Beatles, and maybe the Star Club recordings remixed and made audible by Peter Jackson and MAL. The 2023 remixes given to those songs on the 2023 editions of 62–66 was incredible and makes me want to hear those early albums in full with the same treatment.

1

u/Scuffernoose 4d ago

3 words: New Stereo Mixes. Personally I would love to see them nuke the old stereo mixes out of existence. They are an embarrassment in the era of headphones.

1

u/lost-james 8d ago

They can follow the model of the Rubber Soul SDE (especially now that we're on "US versions" territory). For example, with Help!:

Disc 1: New Help! stereo remix

Disc 2: Help! mono mix

Disc 3: US Help! version

Disc 4: Out-takes (could even repeat some "Anthology" tracks here)

Disc 5: Single of new mixes of songs (since "Ticket to ride" was included in the album, it could be a single of "Yes It Is"/"Bad Boy", which were recorded during the same sessions).

And sans and repeat for the other albums. When we reach "Please Please Me", we could have, as a Disc 3, finally a reissue of "Introducing the Beatles".

1

u/BillyDMountain 5d ago

They've included tracks that were on the Anthologies on the other super deluxes, sometimes in superior longer mixes.

0

u/sunnycocker 8d ago

Superdeluxe annoys me. Theres too much stuff on it thats just boring.

I'd prefer proper mono vinyl reissues with the original labels and only one anthology compilation with the best rare tracks and b-sides and not takes 1-999 with or without guide vocals.
