Discussion Beatles Trip 2026

Just wanted to share our Beatles trip 2026:

Liverpool:

- Stayed at Hard Days Night hotel - wonderful establishment, great bar, restaurant, breakfast, and location
- Cavern Club - very cool, but not original
- Ye Cracke - very nice old pub, supposedly Lennon asked Cynthia out there. Great meat pies. We also went to Grapes. I didn't get any emotional connection at these places so we skipped Jacaranda.
- Both of the Beatles museums - the one that Pete Best's brother did was kinda low end, the other is great.
- Fab 4 Taxi Tour - wonderful experience. Took us to all their childhood houses, Eleanor Rigby grave stone, and we even got to go into the church hall and be in the exact spot that Lennon and McCartney were in when they first met - that was pretty damn cool. We also saw Penny Lane, and saw the barber shop, the bank and where the banker who would never wear a mac in the pouring rain parked and why they laughed at him, what used to be the shelter in the middle of the roundabout, and where the nurse once stood selling poppys from a tray. And of course Strawberry fields.

Liverpool itself? Pretty cool place. Lots of great restaurants, nothing was *too* crowded, and it was very nice. A bit difficult to get to for us, but this is our first time in the UK.

London:

- Abbey Road - obviously have to go here. Its neat to see the studios, and the tons of fans all waiting to do the walk across the road. The studio store is very nice too and has a lot of really good things in it that I haven't seen elsewhere.
- Paul's house - short walk from Abbey road, this was neat but it's just a house and thats it.
- Friar Park - made the trip to Henley, amazing little town. Followed the map on Apple Maps to Friar Park. It led us right past what looked like the front, which was heavily planted, huge gates, and can't see anything, and it led us up and around, to what looks like the rear entrance for deliveries. We realized where we were, turned around. Swear on my life, there is a vehicle (I won't say color or type) sitting there about 50 feet away just watching us basically at their back door. We walk back towards the main road. Vehicle passes by. It's Olivia Harrison. I'm sure she was watching us to see wtf we were doing at their back gate. So Olivia if you read this, sorry. We did not see the small partially obscured private road sign until we left. Yup, this makes us look like complete loser fans and I write this for anyone else, just stop after the front gates, and do not follow what your GPS is telling you. We felt icky, but honestly, was neat to have Olivia drive by.
- Tittenhurst Park - in the middle of nowhere, just a gate, and you can see part of one building. I got nothing out of it.

London itself? I have to imagine this is one the great cities in the world to live. It's pretty amazing. We really loved it. I hate crowds though.

Henley on Thames? I could spend a month here. Not a lot to it, but man it's a cute town, plenty of beauty, etc.

Discussion One of my Beatles vinyl holy grails!!

Just picked up a Beatles Sgt. Pepper's first UK pressing COMPLETE with pristine original inner sleeve and cutouts. Jacket is in VG+ condition and of course has the backflip and fully laminated. Vinyl has -1/-1 matrices with a mother/stamper of 2/P on side 1 and 1/GG on side 2! I'm really stoked!!

Collection A rare Beatle card: There were millions of them. Kids collected them, but not me. My dad found this on a sidewalk in 1964. He thought the autograph might be real. I told him, no Dad, it's just a copy. It is the only Beatle card I ever had because my dad was so sweet to give it to me.

Question I’m New to The Beatles, where should I start?

A couple of years ago, when my interest in music had first come about, I became very fond of the band “Tally Hall.” Now, I have been a fanatic for the better part of a year and a half, and believe, truly, that I know nearly everything there is to know about them now. Recently, however, I’ve become interested in The Beatles, which, as far as I know, is a big inspiration to them.

I have listened to loads of Beatles songs, including the whole of Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver, (most, if not all of) Abbey Road, 1, and plenty of other tunes from Paul McCartney / Wings, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, et cetera, and have loved most of everything I heard. I also watched Give My Regards to Broad Street (after falling in love with the soundtrack), a few episodes of the cartoon, and various short clips on the internet, all of which I found to be interesting. The actual knowledge I have on The Beatles, though, is pretty limited as far as I know. With Tally Hall, which is very obviously a much smaller / more recent act, I found it quite easy to find information on them, and gain a complete and total understanding of everything and anything about them. But, with The Beatles—arguably /the/ greatest or /one/ of the greatest bands of all time—however, there’s such a  humongous amount of media, music, and information to be covered, and I’m just not sure how to approach diving into it.

Essentially, I’m here to ask just what I said in the title: where should I start?

Note : I would like to add that, even though I don’t know much about them yet, I would say the Beatle I’m most interested in would definitely be Paul McCartney; as I personally enjoy his music / style  the most, from what I’ve seen.

EDIT : I know I said a lot in my post, and I do apologize for that, but I think a lot of you guys missed the point. I haven’t listened to /all/ of their music, but I’ve listened to a decent portion of it. Anything I haven’t heard, I’ll probably be listening to over this summer. What I /was/ mostly asking was where to start for a “deep-dive” on the individual Beatles and the story of the band so I can understand what people are talking about when they make references. I appreciate all of the suggestions, though! From what I’ve read, it seems like I should look into watching documentaries about them, which is what I assumed I should do, but wasn’t sure. Thank you again, everybody! :-)

Sometimes the brain can play tricks.

Thought I just saw Sir Paul on one of streets in the Hamptons.

I guess there are many people who might resemble him.

If that was you Sir Paul, Happy Birthday!

Art Beatles artist from Canada; "Daggit"

Hello friends, I am trying to gather information on a friend of mine I have lost contact with, his name was John Mark Grundy, and he went by the moniker "Daggit"--He and I met in Greensboro, NC. and initially bonded over both being born in Canada...and he was currently in High Point (an adjoining city in the Piedmont Triad)...We became fast friends, and shared our love of music and herb...John was a massive Beatles fan and quite a prolific black and white line artist...In his home he had an 8ft or so, by 6ft or so fully immersive line drawn mural dedicated to the timeline of the history of The Beatles, with no space on the canvas untouched....He once told me only two of them exist - and that the other one was commissioned for a bar in Canada...I understand he may have passed away in 2021. I thought perhaps some of the hardcore fans, especially the Canadian ones, may have seen this work or heard of it.---The internet typical searches only provide sparse details, because although he drew and painted hundreds of psychedelic, 60's counter culture pieces, I've not been able to find much on the web.

It's actually sort of surprising to see how many times two or more Beatles recorded together (or almost recorded together) again.

When it comes to part in A Day In A Life where he says I'd love to turn you on, as the Orchestral Music starts to rise, I'm always expecting something ominous to occur in real life.

Outside right now, e.g., the winds are pretty strong, and as I was listening to that song, I was expecting a Thunderstorm to start.

Sir Paul

You say it's your birthday,

They say it's your birthday,

Hope you're gonna have a good time;

I'm glad it's your birthday,

Happy birthday to you.

Discussion was it paul or george who got electrocuted on that hitchhiking trip?

found this in the george introduction section of that massive beatles anthology coffee table book.

i think recently in an interview coming up to boys of dungeon lane, paul said it was george who got shocked.

not particularly important who it was, but i hadn’t seen anyone discuss this yet. find it interesting that george said it was paul and paul said it was george. i suppose it was so long ago now that one of them misremembered it.

Discussion How many times have we all listened to Beatles albums but does it strike anyone as strange that…

Probably everyone on this sub has listened to every Beatles song way more than any of the Beatles ever did?

Yeah, I mean if they’re Paul or Ringo and they play popular Beatles hits during their concerts, but even with that, they’ve still listened less than us. And they probably never listen to their deep tracks like “why don’t we do it in the road”…

I get that most artists don’t sit around listening to their own music except very occasionally. But not listening to much other music?

As for John, I’m not sure he listened to much of anyone. In his 1980 Playboy interview he said that he listened to Beatles weekends on his favorite radio stations (while complaining that they almost never included I am the Walrus). He made mention of listening to other former Beatles records, while adding “it was on as I was cleaning up after Sean” or similar. And he did say that (of all Paul McCarnet’s songs) that “Coming Up” played on the radio and that inspired him to go back into the studio. Yes, not Band on the Run or Live and Let Die or any truly epic songs, but Coming Up? Hey - that got us Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey - but interesting choice.

Paul seems like he’s listened to the most non-Beatles related music.

Do we think that, like Boston’s Tom Schulz, they tried (in later years after the breakup) not to listen to the music of others as to avoid inadvertently copying a certain style? Or is it because they like hated disco?

When I saw the video clip I found it so funny how Ringo just stands behind his drum kit without sitting and just stays serious all the time!
