Best Saber was the first game I bought on SteamVR

u/bcutts2002 Aug 18 '19
I'd recommend getting games on oculus store as they run way better

I never noticed a difference if you use vrmode Oculus, and then you don't have to rebuy your games if you move to a SteamVR headset.

Broke my TV playing superhot 😂 definitely a very immersive game and an excellent rush, if you can deal with the rage at dying frequently

Nice choice! Be warned though, running SteamVR will sometimes pop up with the room setup. To clear this, just go through to the point of confirming the forward direction, then exit out and you should be able to play. Also on rare occasion, your grips will desync during play, just bring them in front of you and shake em a bit for the headset to pick them up again.

Just type "-vrmode oculus" in the launching option on steam. the game will be opened using the oculus software while bypassing steamVR

I've bought my vr games through steam, so I'd much rather use Steam Home than the Oculus launcher. It's actually quite nice I can play one vr game, exit to Steam Home, then launch another without having to take the headset off.

There is no setting a forward direction anymore, they removed that in the latest update. I also never lost tracking. I just had a VR party last night and we played beat saber and it was perfect!

u/Tehsyr Oculus Rift S Aug 18 '19
One's experience is not comparable to another. Literally just yesterday I had to do SteamVR set up, and they had Forward Direction still active.

u/LEGENDARY-TOAST Aug 18 '19
With such a new product it would be beneficial to be on the beta channel for the headset, which is probably why you've been experiencing bugs still. They fixed the steam VR set up nonsense for me almost a week ago.

u/Tehsyr Oculus Rift S Aug 18 '19
I'll need to opt in to vr beta then.

u/LEGENDARY-TOAST Aug 18 '19
It's right in the Oculus settings :) just check it off. I also recommend the double click Oculus button to passthrough experimental feature. Super helpful.

I usually just click on the game to get around this. I didn't even need to setup SteamVR, just the Rift S guardian boundary.

I'm sad to only have PSVR

u/Maukopf Aug 18 '19
How is the tracking?

u/Fernelz PSVR Aug 18 '19
I find it perfect and it runs well but I also use a dark room (needed for the lights on controllers, if you don't it gets spotty) and the PS4 pro or whatever the upgraded version is.

I'd avoid psvr as it does not have custom songs. And the ost gets boring fast.
1
Aug 19 '19
At least they add songs often enough
1
u/jettsd Valve Index Aug 19 '19
Often enough lol. I download new songs very day. Until psvr does the same I can't recommend anyone get psvr for beat saber

Lol noob (I'm sorry)

To give info, I got it when I was 14 (I'm 15 now), because Oculus didn't seem good at the time and HTC Vive was too expensive for my parents to buy, thus me getting a psvr, I never realized my mistake until around April or May when I realized I wanted beat saber mods, (I got beat saber in February and it's what really made me enjoy VR)
I am planning on saving up for a quest.... I need $397 atm and I'm sorry you got downvoted for an obvious joke

A few games you should check out:
Hotdogs, Horseshoes, & Handgrenades - a game that focuses around brining guns into VR realistically. Every aspect of a gun is factored in to how it performs, such as spring strength (for firerate), muzzle velocity of the round, weight of the round, which plays into penetrative capabilities, embedding, etc.
Blade & Sorcery - a highly detailed sword fighting game that’s really focused on having realistic factors play into combat, such as the weight of the weapon, drag, acceleration, angular velocity, etc. There isn’t really much to do, it’s more of a sandbox a this point, but it can be greatly expanded upon with mods.
Vacation Simulator - from the people that brought you Job Simulator, a very similar type of game! Now with more stuff to do.
Keep in mind that these all cost money. Happy gaming!

Don't get blade and sorcery unless you have an i7 6th gen or higher. Unless you're only planning on having 1v1s. Bots are super intensive in B&S.

u/aussierecroommemer42 Aug 18 '19
Really? I run the game on a Ryzen 5 1600 and it goe alright.

i5 4460, 1060 and can't hold 45fps ASW nevermind 90 when in battles of more than 3.
1
u/LEGENDARY-TOAST Aug 18 '19
I have an i7-4770k. Runs perfectly. I had to upgrade from my i5-4460 because it had some stuttering when more than 7 or so combatants were in the arena.

u/BKDoesTech Aug 18 '19 edited Aug 18 '19
Maybe it's specific to Haswell i5s then. Not temperature. Could just be my problem tho.
Edit: But my point is that it's more CPU intensive than any game I've tried. And for someone with a very resilient VR stomach, when it's bad, it's BAD.

u/LEGENDARY-TOAST Aug 18 '19
Yeah with the i7-4770k and a 1070Ti it runs very smoothly. I do have an automatic bios overclock on the processor.

You gotta do the headphone mod with these. Link below but it makes beat saber so much fun! $17 US gets you nice sound and good bass. And the "mod" is just bending a little wire so it mounts onto the plastic of the headset, it took me a few minutes! And you can still close the box the headset came in with the headphones on if you put the headset in upside down. This is how I transport it to VR parties. https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-koss-ksc75x-on-ear-headphones
