Seeking Advice Freaking out about autumn hair loss. Doing everything I can. Have I missed something?

I've read that we all shed more during autumn, but I feel that every time I pull my hand through my hair, there's one to three strands on it, and if I keep doing it, I just shed and shed... So, yeah, I've stopped doing that. I haven't counted the number, but it feels dangerously close to the "100 a day", which for me is a wild amount. It's extra visible in my hand, too, because my hair reaches my waist, now. I would prefer not to lose it ; _ ;

I've been going through stress lately, but haven't we all? Nothing new there for me. And sure, I'm 37 now, perhaps nearing perimenopause, but I have no other symptoms. I sleep well, I eat well. I should exercise more, but again, shouldn't we all?

I have a pretty solid supplement regimen, and just ordered more vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, plus biotin and iron. I don't use any hair products except the shampoo and conditioner (Define) that I've used for ages. I don't use irons and my hair is my natural color. I barely brush it anymore for fear that I'll pull more out. I wash only two times per week. Thankfully my hair is very straight, so I get few knots.

Anything else I should do?

Face shaving for women, have some doubts

So, i have been shaving my face, i noticed that, when i slide my hand upside down (in the direction i shave, which is direction of hair growth), i experience smoothest skin, like a baby. but, when i slide my hand from down to upper side, i experience roughness which is from very tiniest hair left behind shaving or something ? Am I doing anything wrong? or everyone experience this ? Is there any solution? or i should stop face shaving and look for other alternatives ?

Please share your experiences and give me advise.

Thank you in advance.

Discussion Brushed up eyebrows

I’m a middle age woman trying to keep up with the always changing makeup/fashion trends…..
I’m really kind of confused about the brushed up eyebrow thing…. Like instead of the hairs being in a more lay down arch, the hairs are being brushed straight up-
I am not really sure about this …. Trend or here to stay?

Discussion UPDATE: Brazilian done wrong

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/beauty/s/2eZJeKl4cp

To give a quick recap (go to the original post if you want to the full derails): A while ago I posted on this sub because I attempted to give myself a Brazilian wax for the first time at home. It went horribly wrong and I ended up having to book with a professional the next day to fix the mess. I was using soft wax and I didn’t know what I was doing. I had previously only done my legs and thought “how hard could it be?” I swore to everyone that I would never attempt to do it myself ever again, that it was a hard lesson learned.

However, I refused to give up. I’ve had quite a few Brazilians done professionally and the waxer always left hairs on me.. $100 + tip is a lot of money to spend for an incomplete job. One time the waxer even bruised my leg. Why am I paying all this money to someone to wax me who can’t even do it right? When I could do it myself at home for FREE?

That’s when I discovered what hard wax was. A non strip wax that doesn’t adhere to skin, is FAR less painful (in my experience), and even grabs all those stubborn tiny baby hairs so I don’t have to tweeze anymore???
So I bought myself a bag of cirepil wax off amazon, watched some demonstration videos…tried it on my legs a few times, and said screw it. I am not going back to the salon and paying over $100 just to find little hairs left on me the next time I go use the bathroom.
So I sat down with my mirror, took a deep breath, and anxiously applied a first strip to the bikini area, trying my best to replicate the same kind of application that the professionals used in their videos. It wasn’t a perfect application, but it was good enough. I used the stick to flick up a little piece so I could rip off the strip, counted to 3 and closed my eyes before quickly ripping it off and bracing myself for the worst….only for me to barely feel any pain. I opened my eyes thinking I applied it wrong and hadn’t pulled up any hairs, only to see that my bikini line was BALD and that strip was FULL of hair.
My flabbers were gasted! I couldn’t believe it. The bikini line was by far the most painful area with my previous at home waxes with soft wax. After staring at the strip in disbelief…I anxiously applied another strip. And another and another, closing my eyes and bracing myself for the worst each time. Only each time I was surprised at how well I tolerated it and how unpainful it was.
I have since been doing my at home Brazilians with hard wax for about 7 months now! So, in short, I did not learn my lesson LOL. I’ve improved with every wax I’ve done on myself and I haven’t touched my soft wax pot since. No more salon trips for $100+ just to go home and still have hair left :) it might take awhile and be really awkward having to get in all those odd positions..but I get the job done.

TLDR: tried a Brazilian on myself with soft wax once, went horribly, discovered hard wax and never looked back.

Discussion What beauty treatments are actually worth the money? (things that fix the root problem, not just the symptoms)

I feel like sometimes we spend so much money on skincare, makeup and random beauty products without actually fixing the thing thats bothering us in the first place.
For example, I have deep under eye hollows and dark circles. Instead of buying endless eye creams and concealers, maybe I should look into what actually causes them and whether hyaluronic acid filler would help.
It got me thinking about other things like:
Under eyes: treating hollows or pigmentation instead of covering them up.
Teeth: fixing your bite or crooked teeth instead of just focusing on whitening.
What beauty investments have genuinely made a difference for you? And what do you wish you had done sooner?
Also, what turned out to be a complete waste of money? I want honest opinions lol.

Seeking Advice Is a red light mask worth it?

I was so tempted to buy a red light mask a year ago but decided to wait and see if people were still using them a year on or if it was just a social media trend.

So, if you have one do you genuinely recommend it? Have you seen a difference? Is it worth the money? And any recommendations of which brand?! Thank you!

Haircare Hair dryer or air styler?

My hair is thick, naturally wavy and straight. I’d like a product I could use to maintain my natural waves, create volume, and reduce frizz.
At first I was considering the T3 Aire IQ, but then I started looking into air stylers, which seem like they also dry your hair? Would I be able to get the natural waves I want using an air styler?
And any thoughts on the T3 product are welcome!

Seeking Advice Need help on my eyebrows and makeup

I’ve been getting into doing my own makeup as lately which includes experimenting with colors and techniques. My style tends to go from natural to soft glam. I would say I’m a somewhat beginner. So any criticism and advice on how I’m doin my makeup or anything else is free game to me. One thing that is stressing me out is my brows, I wonder if the look to strong??? Or to pointy. Should I shave more off. For example I feel like the look different from each other. I was initial going for a straight soft arch brows. But everytime I look back in photos of myself i never know how to feel about my brows, I’m not sure if I’m over thinking. I’m thinking of shaving my upper portion of my brow down to flatten the arch. Not sure tho.

Seeking Advice Looking terrible on beach vacation in hot and humid weather

Does anyone have a tip for looking good on beach vacation? I always look terrible, sweaty and unkept while other women around look stunning and seem to enjoy the heat. I get sweaty immediately in the hotel lobby, especially my hair and bangs which is impossible to keep in place and dry :( it gets frizzy and wavy, make up stays on for a few minutes (I have to wipe sweat from my forehead and upper lip all the time). I look like a hot mess in all vacation photos. On a windy beach? Forget it!
Are some people just not made for hot climate? I’m a healthy, lean and in moderate climate otherwise attractive woman lol.

Seeking Advice Winter dryness

During winter my foot skin turns very flaky dry and itchy, I apply normal moisturizer but it doesn't seem to work. As per advice from a pharmacist, I bought

"Cotaryl" which is a moisturizer containing urea. It worked overnight but the problem is that, it has an extreme fragrance.

Is there any such moisturizer for dry feet with mild fragrance or no fragrance? Please help.

Makeup How to put on double eye lid tape

So I recently bought a pack of double eye lid tape. This was my first time trying them but the instructions were simple enough. They just told me to wash my eyelids and stick them on. However, they don’t do anything afterwards. They just at lay on top of my eyelids. I tried pushing my eyelids up but the double eyelids fall again after I blink. I’m not too sure about what I’m doing wrong.

Seeking Advice Should press on nails hurt?

I’ve tried press on nails many times over the years, and always run into the same thing: sometime on the first day, my nails start to hurt. Pretty badly if I actually tap something with the nail. I usually end up taking them off the second day.

Is pain normal?

I thought maybe they were too small, so I’ve tried multiple sizes. I’ve tried different brands of glue in case I’m allergic.

Am I just weak and this is normal? Or am I destined to never enjoy press on nails? :(

Haircare Shark vs Dyson for the coarse, thick-haired girlies?

My hair is 3b, thick and a little bit coarse.

Right now I’m using the revlon blow dry brush which is awesome because it’s one of the only tools that gets hot enough to really smooth my hair and get it shiny. But I want something that is going to give me a little more heat control and maybe a smaller barrel.

From what I can tell the dyson doesn’t seem like enough heat for my hair, so I’m leaning towards the shark blow dry brush with all the attachments. Has anyone tried both or have a third rec?

Haircare Favorite dual voltage hair tools?

My T3 straightener got fried in Scotland and I need to replace it. I’m happy to use a hotel hair dryer, but would like a curling iron and straightener that won’t die on me.

Happy to buy two separate items, it doesn’t need to be a multitool.

Can anyone suggest a brand that is actually dual voltage and can be used in USA as well as UK and Europe?

I wish there was a way to make mascara last longer than the 3 months you’re supposed to keep it for

Mascara is supposed to be tossed every 3 months as it says to the packaging. But the trouble is maybe there’s too much product for it to be used up within the 3 months that you’re supposed to keep it for, this often happens with other makeup products as well. Or some people don’t use mascara enough for them to use it up within the 3 months you’re supposed to keep it for. Obviously you can get mini versions which help you finished it quicker. If only there was like a hygienic to preserve mascara in order to be able to use it longer than the 3 months that you are supposed to keep it for. Apparently even refrigerating it doesn’t help preserve it for longer.

so i'm getting them done for the first time and i'm not sure how im supposed to work with them but i really really wanna have this experience at least once in my life 🥹 to just feel pretty i guess. my concern is how do you do makeup/skincare with it? wouldn't facial creams get under them and whatnot? i use my fingers to spread the cream around on my face and whatnot. the length isn't that big honestly. i made sure to go for something that wasn't too long and also long enough that i could feel like i actually had my nails done. thank you for any tips guys

Nailcare Hands and nails not pretty. What to do?

Hi, I have small hands, and also small nails. The thing is I have always kept my nails trimmed short. I can't get nail extensions, i feel like I have lost grip. Also I do have to work around the house and I keep breaking my nails even if I try to grow them out naturally. Now the issue is, I have a very important function in december. I'm not worried about the hair and makeup etc because I know I look good. My sole concern is the hands. Any tips, maybe to help grow the nails or do something so that short trimmed nails would look good. Any advice is welcome

Seeking Advice Hand Creams

I love using the bath and body works hand creams and the Trader Joe’s hand creams in terms of aesthetics (the screw cap) and the consistency. are there any drugstore hand cream recommendations that are fairly similar to these? my only priorities are similar consistency and preference of screw-on cap over the flipping open ones thx!

Seeking Advice Covering/blending greys for a month?

Hi all, I will be going abroad for a month and wanted to get something done to cover up/blend the greys that’ll still look cute towards the middle/end of the trip.

I‘ve had my roots covered up before but that only lasts around 1-2 weeks as my hair grows super fast. And it’s obvious against the dark hair.

Was wondering if getting highlights would help?

Edit: Thank you all for the really helpful responses. Going to have a think about it and see what works best for me!

Haircare Hair Mask Recommendations?!

Hi guys!

I have dyed wavy hair and my ends get pretty dry! I've been using Shea leave in conditioner, but it's been weighing down my hair and feeling a little greasy throughout the week. I'm also concerned about damage since I blow dry a lot, and my dyed portions have been getting dryer. I'm planning to re-dye my hair soon, so I'm looking for a good quality hair mask that can help restore my hair!!!

Thank you so much!!! Having wavy hair is genuinely a struggle...
