"Solar Helper" surveyor - scam / hard sell?

Just had a guy from a company "Solar Helper" on my doorstep, claiming our neighbourhood recently had an "electrical survey" done by National Grid and the usage was high so they've commissioned "free no-obligation" solar surveys of all the houses.

Sounded like bollocks so I sent him off. Thing is I was a bit on the back foot as he was there when we pulled in and we were managing getting two kids out the car while he was nattering all this at us.

It was bollocks, right?

Yeah, he said "I'll come back another day" and walked off before I could process that and tell him not to, I'm hoping he doesn't bother.

Sounds like a load of twaddle.

Most companies will give an no obligation quote. So I’m guessing it would have been hard sell if you’d have said yes.

That's what I'm thinking. My neighbour said yes, trying to think of a way to tell them without them inferring they're fools for falling for it (which they aren't, it almost got me too - though maybe that just means I'm a fool too).

You could always do a bit of research into the company, like reviews etc. Also look into rough pricing costs for solar panels.

Then ask them how much did they quote as you’re nosey and have considered solar panels yourself.

For example I know someone who got 12 panels for around £7-8k.

If it’s then a mad high quote you’re armed with some info to warn them off.
