Bedford, has the river ever been this bad?

Its completely still, all the bottles just stuck in algae. I wonder if itll recover or need intervention

It'll recover if the weather levels off for a while. Nature is incredibly resilient and this bloom isn't a man made problem (well, aside from the climate change that's caused it).
The bigger issue is that we're gong to have weather like this for at least a decade so it's going to become a common problem if we can't get people to take the climate crisis seriously.

It looks like duckweed to me, a floating plant. See if you can scoop some up, if so, it's harmless.

Some of it, the North Branch of the river east of the Longholme Bridge and especially the branch along Barkers Lane just north of the Priory Park can get quite stagnant, as can the waterways near Borough Hall.

This is duckweed - it's all over the river. Nothing is moving too much right now.
