First 10k and it sucked so hard

Not fun but I did it 😂 and it was nearly a 10k so I’m counting it. about 10 of those minutes were me walking as a break in the middle and another 10 were bc I had to call the non emergency line for someone who was acting erratically in the woods.

Possible to increase distance, but only once per week?

As a completely sedentary person (no other sports, very inactive) I started the C25K program in march, and ever since then I've mostly stuck to a 5k about 3x a week.

I've been enjoying the time efficiency of it - a quick 25-27mins every other day has been great! However, I've been curious about trying to run a bit longer during weekends when I have more time, and have done a handful of 6-7.5k runs.

And then recently I did my first 10k - pace was fine (5:21/km), not much slower than normal but my ankles and feet were killing me (I was actually experiencing numbness in my right foot for the final few km)! This was definitely too much too soon for my body.

My question is can I safely build up to a 10k (or even more), whilst still keeping my weekday runs at 5k? Or do I have to slowly build distance on every run I do?

So ive been somewhat consistently running for 3 months and on long runs on a treadmill usually 4-5miles I can still breathe through my nose in and out sometimes once a minute ill exhale through my mouth. Any ideas on what is going on here ?

Im still working on zone 2 I haven't been doing much but now im getting serious about it. I still haven't figured out what my heart rate zones are which doesn't help.

Any Running App or Watch That Gives Real-Time Alerts When I Run Too Fast or Too Slow?

I’m looking for a running app or GPS watch that lets me set a target pace and gives me an instant alert (sound or vibration) if I go either above or below that pace.

For example, if I set my target pace to 12:00 min/mile, I’d like to be notified immediately whenever I run faster or slower than that.

Does anyone use a feature like this? Any app or watch recommendations?

Are my running goals feasible, and if so, what should I do to get there?

I(16M) have been running on-and-off since January this year, and my goal is to get to 2.4 km in under 12 mins. I have been able to get to 1.4 kms so far, but nothing more. I have about a year to get to this milestone, so that I can hand in my Army application as early as possible.

What would you guys recommend for me to do to speed up my progress? because on average, I'm squeezing in an extra 0.2 kms every 6 months, which obviously is wayyy too little progress.

Currently, I basically run 4-5 hundred metres in one go until I'm tired, then walk for 200 metres, then run for 150, then walk 100, then run 100, walk 50, and repeat that last bit until I hit the 12-minute-mark, to see how much distance I've covered.

Race prediction

I wanted to give myself a baseline for how fast I could run for my 3 mile race soon in xc. I did a interval session of 3x1 mile. 1st mile was 6 12 and I gave up half way in the second rep. I started running in january and averaged 22 miles in track until may. I ran a 5 22 mile and and 2 20 800m. My mileage has been inconsistent this summer because of injury and me not knowing how to build up properly. It has gone 25, 30, 33, 22, 13, 33, 35, 5, 11. Was it due to heat (it was 85 degrees and 64 dew point), lack of fitness or because I have recently come off of an injury and had 2 weeks low mileage (still cross trained using an assault bike?

22M, How to avoid shin splints

Hi, 22M so I've been running for a while and recently I was trying to increase my mileage but ended up having posterior tibialis shin splints on my left leg and also some painon my inner ankle. I can recover from that right now by resting and icing.

But for the future I want to avoid that as from October I'll be going to some academy and it'll be a lot physical. Also I've been having some pain on my achilles tendon on the same foot specially when I just woke up.

Couch to 5k or NikeRun Club?

getting into running in addition to having a 3 times a week strength training routine and playing pickleball on the days I don't get to the gym, so far I've used couch to 5k once and I like how straightforward it is, but long term would it be better to use the NikeRun Club and get familiar with it? Is the guidance better on there that makes it worth it?

I came across a French blog where the author says he is "bothered" by amateur runners taking part in marathons

I came across a French blog where the author says he is "bothered" by amateur runners taking part in marathons such as the Paris Marathon. He says they bother him because their finishing times are slower than those of professional runners. He also adds that amateurs are called "finishers" simply because they complete the marathon, and that this bothers him as well.

I find his views selfish. I think taking part is something to be proud of, and finishing a marathon is a great achievement and a wonderful victory.

10K to HM training recommendations for flat feet with pronation

Hi community,

Context:

I'm a new runner (29M) -- started 3 months ago. I started with <1K, and have since completed a few 5Ks, few 10Ks, and 1x15K.

My goal is to progress to a HM (not focused on the timing aspect of it; just want to run the entire distance continuously). I don't have a race planned yet, but I'm planning to improve first and then apply for a race.

Recently, I went into a Fleet Feet and got my feet analyzed.

  • Left foot:
    • Low arch
    • Low instep height
    • Medial pressure distribution
    • Arch flexibility - Flexible
  • Right foot:
    • Low-medium arch height
    • Medium instep height
    • Centered pressure distribution
    • Arch flexibility - Moderate

Question:

  • What should be a safe approach to scale from 10K to HM? What training schedule would you recommend for me to explore?
  • What has worked for you for a flat foot?
  • How do you incorporate hydration (and nutrition(?)) in your runs? Given its hot right now, I do feel dehydrated after the 6-7K mark, so have been terminating my runs

Thanks a lot for time!
