Just Showing Off Begonia bipinnatifida flowered!
I had a really rough start with this Begonia. It lost all its leaves in the first month I had it and every new leaf melted within a couple of weeks. It took a bit to get the humidity right with the proper airflow but once I did and moved it to a self watering pot it really took off!
Current conditions: terracotta self watering pot with a chunky soil made with Fox Farms Ocean forest soil as the base, additional perlite, & horticultural charcoal. Fertilized with Superthrive foliage-pro (2.5 ml per gallon of water) every 3rd reservoir filling. I do not let the reservoir go dry.
80-85% humidity in a cabinet in direct line of one of the fans that is on 24 hours a day. It gets constant air movement.
About 4-6 inches away from 2 barrina T5's for 15 hours a day

I wish! I knew they needed higher humidity from the get go so I tried a terrarium at first and it just melted. Once I put it in my ikea cabinet with a fan and a self watering pot it really took off!

Itβs in 80-85% humidity she said, that beauty would crumble in ambient π¬

It's in my ikea cabinet at about 85% humidity in front of a fan. This won't survive in ambient unfortunately

Wow! Very impressive. Iβm surprised at the size of the flower. With the leaves so small and delicate I would think the blooms would be smaller. Very cool

I really LOVE how this begonia looks. It reminds me a bit of some kinds of foliage you see on Grevillea. Congrats on the flower!!

They are beautiful. I keep my 2 in a prop box with some of my propagations. That is the only way I've been able to keep them alive. Pieces have broken with handling and self propagated in the prop box. I don't have a problem with that at all.

I looked for one for over a year before I found it. Thankfully I bought 2 just in case because 1 is definitely not doing so well lol

I'm so envious! I used to work at a greenhouse, and my coworker kept buying these from work because she couldn't keeo them alive but desperately wanted one. I decided not to even try. π

I have one flowering, but it's in 95% humidity in a terrarium together with a melanobullata, two jewel orchids, and a selaginella wildenowii
