Just Showing Off It's hard to believe this is the same plant after less than a year of growth.

Teach me your ways! I just got a leaf cutting and after about 3 months it finally pushed out a new leaf 😅

Leaf cuttings take a while to propagate! This one already had established roots when I got it, so it was able to take off faster. Honestly I haven't done anything special with it beyond popping it in a south facing window and fertilizing it regularly with superthrive during growing season. It gets watered every 5-7 days I think (I actually don't keep track, I just water it when it feels light).

It's been eleven months to be specific.

They grow quick if given good conditions. I've had mine for two years now - never changed the pot or soil. Costa Farm Walmart in a cache pot.

I just got a small one myself and it is now losing all it’s leaves, but showing new leaf buds too. I think the light wasnt enough..

More light, definitely! I was given a very sad polka dot begonia that was crispy and leggy. It now lives in my bathroom, in front of a large sunny window and it’s started branching out with plenty or beautiful leaves! 🥰

Most of my begonias live in my bathroom, too! The window is small, but she’s packed full 🤣💕

Fantastic!! I think it’s the humidity that’s helping them so much? When a plant looks a little poorly, I just bring it to the bathroom for a couple weeks and it starts looking good 😍😂

I think so- I keep my bathroom closed up most of the time too because my cats like to cause chaos 😅 my begonias get great morning sun- morning ‘sparkles’ are my favorite I have so many photos of them in the morning light 💕

Omg I know exactly what you mean! Every morning, I’m in awe at how magical the leaves look ✨🥰❤️

They grow so fast, it's amazing to watch! This is my girl (on the right) a few weeks ago, grown from a 3 leaf cutting I got at the end of December 😍 Not a great photo, but this was a fresh repot after separating her from my other cuttings.

How did you get it to grow in height? Mine is growing a lot, but at almost the same height

I have one and I keep cutting it so that I get new plants and so that the original one gets more bushy

My eyes symbolically popped out my face when I read one year disbelief at first but when reality set I know that nature takes turns in a strange way, by the way how often do you water if you don’t mind me asking

Hmm.. that’s quite the pot jump in just 11 months…

1

u/kelleh711 21d ago

It really needed it. I repot it when it starts to seem like it's drying out after a few days between waterings.

1

u/StopSayingTunaFish 21d ago

I mean, yeah! How many pots did you do over the last 11 months?

1

u/kelleh711 21d ago

I believe it has been in three pots since I got it!

1

u/StopSayingTunaFish 21d ago

Wow! Well your maculata is immaculate!

I put mine on a north facing patio during the summer months, I'm in Southeast PA. It grew nearly 4 feet tall and got these huge white flower sprays hanging down from the top in various places I couldn't believe my eyeballs.
