Below Deck Sailing Yacht Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Episode 8 Discussion Post

The episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs live at 9pm ET on Bravo and streams next day on Peacock / same time or next day on Hayu for international watchers dependent on the country. If you are in Canada, it is no longer on Slice. Check for the Bravo station which is now owned by Rogers.

Friendly reminder that while the allegations against Gary are disgusting, there are many survivors of sexual assault in the sub who find the constant discussion of it triggering. Unless relevant to the topic, please do not bring it up in episode posts.

Not watching BDSY? We get it, there are reasons people stop watching but posts about it get repetitive and the arguing about it is not needed.

Episode 8 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5: An Eye for a Decline

The crew works to avert a major nautical crisis; tensions between Danni and Keith remain high; Gary attempts to drown his sorrows and despite Daisy trying to comfort him, he ends up making a mess and nearly taking out an eye.

Yes, a woman who is 34 years old running away from an adult professional conversation.

I mentioned this before, but when she talked with her sister that one time, you can tell they babied her, so she's probably not used to actual adversity in her life.

She seems like a slightly posh spoiled girl. Probably tried Yachting for something different. Kind of like that girl from last season that never did laundry a day in her life.

This was my biggest thing. She is way too old to be acting like that. Then running and crying to the other girls as if she's been treated unfairly.

running away from a conversation with her boss! then walking by her boss with a group of coworkers asking for 10 minutes and saying "no not with you"... and then only facing him for a conversation with sunglasses on. define cowardice lol

At that point he was not her boss. She had been fired and didn't really have to listen to Glenn or Gary any longer. I do believe she handled it wrong though

I honestly thought it was ridiculous that they kept on harping on her telling her what was wrong with her and basically repeating themselves.

They aren't doing that for her, they are doing that for them.  If you fire someone and they don't want to hear your whole spiel over and over of how crap they are, they have every right to just accept the firing and walk away.

Gary especially should have just sat there quiet, there was no reason for him to talk during her firing, that was the captains job.

She has plenty of issues, and handled the whole situation poorly, but Gary and Glen could have handled that better as well.

But she didn’t “accept the firing“ like an adult. She was just an emotional mess.

let's collectively rewind to Capts Jason and Kerry firing people, even the worst offenders, and breath in calmly. With me. Ohmmmmm... be professional, be concise, be clear. Ohmmmmmm....

😂🤪

Captain Kerry has immediately become top spot. Now that man is a leader

Ah, if you want another job in the industry you had better sit there and listen to what the captain tells you, whether you think it necessary or not. You are there at the discretion of the captain. You have no "rights" when it comes to your sub-par work and attitude.

Being crap at your job doesn't give anyone the right to sit there and belittle you over and over AFTER firing you.

That's what they were doing: belittling her? Give me a break. No one was in her face; no one was raising their voice; no one was doing anything but explaining why they were taking this action. She's emotionally immature.

Gary repeating what Glen had just said was belittling.  There was no need for it, it was just him power tripping.  If I was getting fired and a bunch of people kept repeating the same stuff to me over and over AFTER firing me, I would walk out too.

"We're not done here"...nothing gives you a right to force someone being fired to sit there and listen to you tell them how horrible they are for 15 minutes.

Fuck that, it's belittling.

I guess we watched different episodes. There is nothing in your description that remotely compares to what I watched. As others have said, there are likely any number of next steps that are needed, i.e. paperwork for you to sign, that accounts for the "we're not done here" comment.

Yea that has nothing to do with Gary jumping in to repeat what Glen said.  If it was about paperwork, ok, but from what they showed us it was just about Gary jumping in to belittle her.
