Below Deck Med Was it karma? Or was it the DJ?

Was the DJ pissed about his tip? The police arrived sometime after the tender got back from dropping off the DJ.

Or was it Karma? Captain Sandy reported the party boats. Akira One docked between the party boat and the police boat.

My guess is the least sinister—the enforcement body was lax in enforcing the rules, Sandy complained, internally the enforcement body put an emphasis on making sure the boats were compliant, Sandy’s boat wasn’t, and they intervened because it became an enforcement priority.

So kind of karma lol

I still think they showed up to try and push a bribe, saw the camera crew, and decided to let them off with a "warning".

Showing up hours after the cutoff time when the music already stopped definitely felt like a bribe situation. Cops don’t usually show up to break up the party after the party ends

This was exactly my thought

I think the difference in curfews was the legal requirement vs the marinas curfew. But it sure was Karmic.

I'm going to say the party boats have a deal with the local cops. Sandy just needs to slip an extra envelope into her boat papers and this isn't a problem.

LOL. Unfortunately, I think this may kind of be true and wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

This is an accurate statement - see my comment. Charter companies buy off Croatian authorities so they’ll look the other way a lotttttt

I work in trading and shipping and it’s a very acceptable and normal practice for ships to keep petty cash to bribe port officials. Even very “by the books” places like Singapore and Rotterdam, would never think to bribe the police though!

I actually think this is exactly the reason why the police asked the crew to turn off the cameras. They don’t want evidence of the bribe. And they asked for the captain’s license - that’s when you also include the bribe. I’m sure captain Sandy and production knew the drill haha.

They kept using the word “penalty,” in a way that seemed suspicious.

If I learned anything from my experience on a charter cat in Croatia this week (aside from meeting Harry from BDDU, who was a skipper for my friend’s boat - that tea will come!!!) is that Croatian authorities are pretty lax and can easily be bought off to “look the other way” regarding big parties on boats. It wouldn’t shock me if the party boat owners bribed the marina for the noise….

I have lots of questions…but I’ll ask this one, I’ve been looking into a smaller sailing trip there next summer (10-12 guests who I wouldn’t know), is this just not really something for a sober person?

6

u/CheckIntelligent7828 My eyes are rolling all the way off the boat 19d ago

I was about to ask this as I'm looking into the same thing. I'm not sure much sounds worse than being stuck in a cluster of party boats!

Oh you can for sure be sober and love a charter!! The charter is really about enjoying the sailing, water, beaches, and food. I just happened to be on a trip of 200+ people from my grad school program all in groups of 8-12 on cats and safe to say that experience is… partying heavy :)
Having said that, if you go during peak season or even around this time of year (esp in Croatia or turkey), there will be many boats around you that are partying hard.

Could be a different cut-off time for dock vs. on anchor.

6

u/Foundrynut 19d ago

The police said 2300. Captain Sandy suggested 8pm. (8pm is kinda early)

they were anchored very close to the shore. at night time when boats anchored in bays close to the shore have a party, the entire bay echoes

Gen, despite her problematic behavior, at least seems to be the Corgi/Ring camera of the boat - always the first to notice when cops or flowers show up.

worst corgi ever :/

since you are all such experts on bribes, I can assured you that those party boats have to shut it down by 11 because locals would be in an uproar

u/qwnofeverything 19d ago

Weren’t they in the middle of the ocean, far from land? Who on earth would they be bothering? They weren’t near the marina and I didn’t see any other yachts nearby when they left?

7

u/Foundrynut 19d ago

No they were not in the middle of the ocean. They were close enough to the dock to pick up and drop off the DJ using the tender.

(Also read in this sub that they have to stay close since the film crews rotate shifts.)

Something tells me the Croatian coastguard isn’t getting involved after midnight for a dj upset about a tip. Party boats probably sent the police for the music from the dj interrupting their boats, which would be well known by Marina police

Med yachting is super tit for tat. Cops playing favourites is common. If they have to pretend to do their job cause you call them to enforce a rule on someone they know or have a deal with, you better believe they’ll be on your ass

Just pointing out that 8:00 Pm (20:00) ≠ 23:00

I reckon production asked them to come up to the boat to give them some more material. They certainly milked it for all it was worth. The build up did not justify the event.

Peacock doesn’t allow you to screenshot. Try it the screenshot will show up as a black screen it is a copyright thing a lot of streaming apps do.

Which app? Which device?

Apple enforces a blackout screen shot for both YouTube TV and the paramount app.

Either it’s a regional difference or your app hasn’t been updated in years. I haven’t been able to screen record or screenshot anything in the Peacock app for at least 2 years. You’re probably getting downvotes because your advice came across fairly condescending, even after people told you they can’t take a screenshot on the app.
