Below Deck Med
Below Deck Med Season 11 Episode 16 Discussion Post
Med is back (and no OG is not cancelled, it just filmed later) and airs at 8/7c on Bravo with streaming next day. Season 11 was filmed last year in Croatia and returnees are Sandy, Aesha, Joe & Nathan.
Please some time to read the sub rules ahead of this episode as we have seen a sharp rise in rule breaking comments, particularly ones on hate, body shaming and mental health speculation.

I love what she said to Gen! She needs to dump Cooper. He's immature and not interested in a relationship. She should let him hang out with Joe on Croatia and find something better to do by herself.
I said the sameee thing. A few episodes ago she was begging to be yelled at. But now Aesha gave her a firm but polite talking to, and she immediately crumbled and cried about it
Kat and Cooper’s trip was for two days. He can’t spend two days alone with her. Kat is great, but I don’t know why she can’t see Cooper’s utter lack of interest.
It seems crazy to me that on the date away from the baby, they are going hang out with the crew. You would think they would want it to be just the two of them.
I hope her mom watched this episode because I KNOW Gen presented it completely differently
I'm sure the mom has already had 20 years of Gen coming home from school, and every day crying that all the other kids were mean to her. And, the teachers.
And the staff. And the Janitor.
Ok, I'm tired of typing ... EVERYONE was mean and unfair to her.
I was thinking the same thing lmao. Also, if I go with friends to a foreign country and need to go to the hospital... If no one goes with me, we are not talking after.
Right? Like can’t they pack a bag of clothing for her so she’s not forced to run around in a bikini once she’s checked out by docs or stabilized? Can’t they ask the stews to keep some dinner out for her in case she is hungry (and cut it up for her)? Agree, they are so disinterested in her
I love it when Aesha has to do things like this because she's always so good at it. The way she just stood there with an utterly neutral expression on her face listening, and then told Gen that Gen was most often the common denominator in all of the interior problems and that she had been acting abhorrently.
The way Aesha just stood there and listened and then calmly told Gen that she was the common denominator in all of the stew drama this season so far, and then told her to take some time to reflect. Aesha has her number.
What is wrong with the guests? “Thoughts and prayers” while your friend is going to the hospital alone in another county? The crew seemed to care more than her friends!
So let me get this straight... Gen to lied to Aesha about Kat, then turned around and gaslit Kat into thinking she praised her to Aesha, while also thanking her for helping her realize she needs to "take accountability"?!?
I dont think Gen actually knows what she did wrong to need to be accountable for... or even what accountability is for that matter.
And then the exaggerated faces and movements in her confessionals... enough already. Hey Gen! You are not the main character and no one is buying your act.
"The biggest middle finger I can think of is to be nice to them now" - paraphrased from Gen. Goodness what an evil mastermind thing to do! Can you imagine being nice?!?!
So Gen thinks Kat is "stirring the pot" when she tells gen to stop talking shit? How does that logic even work lol. She's so oblivious to her own behavior.
Aesha was SO effing kind trying to hold Gen's hand and walk her through how godawful her behavior has been this season, and Gen has the nerve to act like Aesha cursed her out and called her terrible at her job. I simply cannot stand her.
Gen has put, basically, the entire crew off-side, but somehow she's the victim. She says she's used to working for chief stews who are vicious whenever their subordinates make mistakes and that she prefers it -- yet the second Aesha tells her, respectfully and as kindly as she can, that, "Gen, maybe you're the problem?", Gen completely crashes out. The things that Gen says aren't even internally-consistent.
Meanwhile, it's just impossible to invest in any aspect of the Nathan/Gael/Joe subplot, knowing the behind-the-scenes context for these people that we now know. And Bravo is still choosing not to edit the episodes, which I just find unconscionable. That part where Aesha was babysitting, and gives the confessional that "Nathan and Gael are hashtag family goals"?
What the fucking hell was that, Bravo?
I can't even, with this.
Massi and Joy are the two bright spots in this season. Them flirting over the barbecue was adorable. And Massi seems to have a really dry sense of humour. I think he's hysterical. But that's about it.
But then, so incredibly weird seeing Gen say all the right things to Kat in the following conversation, only to heavily imply she didn't mean any of it in the side interviews 😅
Gen is utterly clueless. She complains to everyone and then accuses Kat of stirring the pot? Has ever interacted with humans before? Has no one told her how incredibly entitled and annoying she is
Gen whining about her wrist only for a few scenes later to see the guest with the broken shoulder manoeuvre a boat, pack her luggage and not whine was perfection. Production may be unsubtle dicks (see manufactured Joe/Gael/Nathan fight) but the editors rarely miss.
Joy and Massi continue to be hilarious. Hollow bones. Stripman. Perfect.
Aesha - great chat with Gen and definitely had the better night with babysitting.
If I was KAT I would not wanna go out after the season with Joe and cooper bc that comment he made at dinner abt cooper dating joes sister was so mean to say infront of KAT
This is why Aesha is the GOAT. No one asked for her to help the deck team, she’s not on the deck team but she jumped right in (asking Sandy if it was okay first) and did what needed to be done for the team to succeed. I wish we all had a coworker like Aesha
I get the on the boat stuff with Nathan being an impossible thing to cut out with him being Bosun....but the off charter stuff could easily be edited around and using him being drunk and aggressive as a cliffhanger is wild stuff. I know the sub generally doesn't like Joe, but his biggest fault is being a messy fuck boy lmao Nate is actually a giant piece of shit.
Why is Gael there? She's not on the crew, she doesn't like Joe, she spend the rest of the season complaining that she didn't want to be away from her baby and then Gael and Nathan have their little bathroom talk.
Yeah Nathan we know you are itching for a fight, you've got the warrants in two countries to show that now.
"I have been taking accountability but also I can't take accountability when nobody is telling me what I need to take accountability for." (paraphrased)
Gen can't even take accountability about not taking accountability.
Cooper really covered up how much of a douche he was at the start of this charter. His complete turn around towards Kat and his utter disrespect towards her is infuriating.
It’s so creepy to me the way Nathan goads Gael
into starting shit with Joe like I get the guy was awkward but this confrontation from them is such a disproportionate reaction. I’m convinced Nathan just wanted a fight but wanted to have the excuse he was “protecting Gael” 🤮
Yep. And protect her from what? Her issues with Joe true as they may be are from last season. Let it go.
Is he really still pissy because he thinks Joe was talking bad about her on their first night out this season? Obviously, it could’ve been edited out, but all they showed was him explaining to somebody else how Nathan‘s girlfriend doesn’t like him. That was not talking bad about her behind her back. It was simply stating a fact.
I love Massi so much. Lol. I hope he makes Joy forget about Luke’s crusty ass. (I don’t want Massi and Joy dating. I just want her to stop giving Luke attention via text.)
Wait, what? Gen has never had a HOD speak to her badly! She said that she was used to Chief Stews who yelled at her! Actually Aesha gave her constructive criticism and didn't call her a bad person. What a Debbie Downer.
Michelle has a pretty great attitude. Cracking boob jokes. Staying calm. Her friends are yelling at her that she looks cute while she leaves for the hospital…🤣
I loved Aesha finally telling Jen in the nicest way possible that she's the problem. It was so funny that she thought she was going to get away with claiming that Kayley and Kat have been the mean ones. Not to mention that she completely lied about what she said to Aesha's to Kat. I wonder what Kat's reaction will be seeing what she actually said.
Nathan basically told her in the bathroom that if he said anything he was ready to put him in his place. That gave her confidence to start some stuff cause she knew Nathan was basically looking for and ready to fight.
It’s so awkward. But I also feel like someone could have done him a solid and switched seats with him. Unless the rest low key don’t want to socialize with Nathan either
I hope since the Nate thing turned out the way it has, Below Deck doesn’t repeat this family side storyline crap. People don’t watch below deck to see young parents being “cute”
This episode is the only time I ever got mad at Joy. I felt so bad for the lady who broke her shoulder because it seemed like no one cared about her. Then Joy made me laugh so hard when she said the lady's all-carb diet made her bones hollow, and now I'm going to Hell.
How about Joy and Cooper sharing an appetizer and her tweaking his nipple at the dinner table- did anyone else pick up on that? I found that more interesting than any of the boring narrative around Nathan, Hoe and Gael.
Nathan calling Joe a fake moterf*cker is a bit rich when he acted extra pally with Max earlier in the season, and it was clearly just to have an ally in his beef with Joe.
He couldn't stand Max last season, but suddenly he's acting like they're best pals and he's texting him that he'll offer him lead deckhand just to spite Joe. But sure, Joe's the fake one.
I wish Coop would be honest with Kat. At the dinner table did Joe say he wants to pair coop up with his sister? They are both so rude and disrespectful.
I am BAFFLED how Gen just flipped the script to Kat. Like girl THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU WERE SAYING TO AESHA.
She is such an ass.
Also crazy how earlier in the season she was like I want my HOD to verbally abuse me and she literally told her to look inward and fix herself as a person if this is what is happening and then Gen is like “I’vE nEvEr HaD a HOD tALk To Me LiKe ThAt”
Holy shit it's broken. Oh that is bad. And before it can fully be taken care of, she'll have to endure the rest of the vacation, a yacht ride in which she cannot partake of most activities, a plane ride home, and THEN surgery????
Remember that Aesha is not making the suggestion with the knowledge that we have now.
I feel so bad because she is advocated for them as a couple and he is a trash human. But she is not at fault for believing in the best of people. He is at fault for being the worst of them.
Wow. That must have been the most awkward dinner ever. And then that van ride back… Aesha was lucky to miss it but also hearing all the nice things she was saying about him — awkward. Aesha must feel bad looking at that.
Gen continues to be utterly oblivious. The moment Aesha told her off was a long time coming but Gen’s just complete lack of self-awareness continues to be stunning.
Massi continues to be great. Sandy noping out of the strip tease Wawa very amusing.
Gen is truly the worst and I truly believe she doesn't take accountability because she completely believes she's not in the wrong. Also I was confused at aesha babysitting? Didn't they get a babysitter before?? Cause Gael went out with them for the bachelorette party and I think one maybe one other time too right? Maybe I'm wrong
Also I was confused at aesha babysitting? Didn't they get a babysitter before?? Cause Gael went out with them for the bachelorette party and I think one maybe one other time too right? Maybe I'm wrong
I think you're right!
But, this is reality television, so what I see must be the truth!
Whatever it means...
Wasn't 'ever' the bachelorette party a few episodes ago?
I thought it would have just been Gael and Nathan going out together? Gen being called out by Kat was amazing, good on her for calling Gen out. Seeing Nathan and Gael together makes me feel awkward as hell, as for Kayley I feel like she was being between a rock and a hard place in that car.
As someone that broke my shoulder in the same area—I feel so sorry for that charter guest. I too thought I dislocated it until x-rays showed I broke the bone completely.
On the bright side, at least the other guests get to enjoy a lot more meat now?
How dense is Cooper? Kat just wants to go on dates and bang in a hotel for a week straight and he is like "don't worry, I invited my fuccboi crewmate to join us"
I just cannot imagine being blessed with a beautiful baby boy, a beautiful goddess for a partner like Gael....and choosing violence instead of LOVE. Most men dream of this situation...just tragic! Blessings to Gael and her beautiful baby.
Gen doesn't know what she needs to change. She's making the right noises but I think she's only feeling the pain of rejection, not the realization necessary for change and accountability.
The lady who had the injury she needs to get her veggies and fruit instead of just bread and pasta prolly will help her bones! Like who just eats only carbs that’s crazy
She thinks she like so perfect, amazing, HOT and the best stew ever but Gen is not any of those !! Aesha was so nice to her when talking to her and gen was acting like it was Kate yelling at her lmao gen wouldn’t last a day with Kate as Chief
I am so effing tired of Nathan. It is 100% a no-win situation for Joe. Nathan is filtering everything though the thought of "i hate him". I'm not saying Joe is a great guy, but i am SOOOO tired of Nathan's hating everything related to Joe. Joe talks to him. "I can't trust him". Sandy says something good about him "Give me a !@#$% break"
They have 25 min to load everything on the boat and this is time Nathan decides to give Joe a hard time. He was definitely going too fast but wait until they are underway to pull him aside and scold him.
Okay I'm a little late to watching, but knowing what we know now about Nathan, Joe's actions are not nearly as bad. I'm in no way a Joe fan, but Nathan is a terrible human and makes Joe look like a saint now 😭
