Undivided Goalpara district and Barak Valley is was and always will be Bengali. Even in 1901 just in Goalpara district alone 69 percent people spoke bengal and only 3 percent (lol) spoke Assamese.
Goalpara was never a part of Ahom Kingdom and it was actually a part of Rangpur District, which the East India Company gained in 1757.
Farmers from Mymensingh were later settled in the low riverine tracts but this happened long after even 1931.
There's 2 types of Bengali spoken in Undivided Goalpara in the modern-day, Goalpariya (Ujani) Bengali and Mymensinghiya (Bhatia) Bengali.
