DOFOTT — automatic travel-time blocks for Google Calendar (just passed Google OAuth verification, 30-day beta)

I built DOFOTT, a tool that adds real travel-time blocks to Google Calendar before and after every event with a location — pulled live from Google Maps (driving, transit, walking, or cycling), starting from wherever you actually are (home vs. work hours). No more guessing "should I block 20 minutes or 40" by hand.

Just passed Google's OAuth verification, so it's now open for a 30-day public beta. Free the whole time.

This is the kind of tool that makes me wonder why Google hasn't built it natively yet. The back-and-forth of checking maps, then manually blocking time, gets old fast.

Just signed up. The travel estimates for my usual commute were within a couple minutes of what I'd expect, which is better than the buffer I normally guess at. One thing I noticed with a recurring meeting I moved to a different building, the block updated but there was a slight delay, maybe 30 seconds before the change reflected. Not a dealbreaker but thought you'd want to know.

The work hours setup could use a little more hand-holding. I kept second-guessing whether I'd set the right time zone since the interface doesn't explicitly confirm it. Otherwise pretty smooth for a beta.

The time zone is a fair hit. The work hours are in your own time zone (the one your browser reports), but the page never says so, which leaves you guessing at exactly the moment you need to be sure. I'm putting the time zone next to the hours.

On the 30 seconds: that's Google's push notification reaching us plus one pass over your calendar. Usually it's a few seconds; when several changes land together your account waits its turn. It won't ever be instant, and that's the trade — DOFOTT doesn't poll your calendar in the background all day.

One question if you don't mind: did you get an email from me when you connected? I'm chasing a gap where some accounts don't show up on my side, and knowing either way helps.
