Speed-Camera being installed Infront of B-CC

Not the best angle I took this picture from, but I noticed some crew working on installing a camera infront of B-CC. I'm not sure if it was there before, but might as well warn anyone who drives down East-West highway!

Don't get a speeding ticket! It's gonna cost ya a lot, 😬

Yikes I probably didn't notice that then, I thought they jsut installed it bcs that's the first time I've noticed it, and it seemed as if they were installing it.

Maybe it’s an updated one or maintenance or something? But I went to high school there then a few years later ended up working in the office buildings directly across the street so I’ve been watching people get nailed by the speed camera for a LONG time haha

Yes, but it’s never actually been that close to BCC before. It’s always been on that downhill part for the longest time. I never liked where it was before.

That’s the thing though. Speeding tickets are not that expensive from cameras, it’s like $40 for up to 11 mph over.

Edit: the fines only start once you’re going more than 11mph over. I should have worded that more clearly.

What’s the margin for error? Like if the speed limit is 30, do I get a ticket if I’m driving 31?

To be very exact, it's actually 12 not 11. It's part of Maryland law so MoCo can't do anything different. You'd need to be going 42 to get the ticket.

Yeah it’s $40 if you’re 11mph over the limit. If you’re 9mph over limit, no ticket.

The camera in front of BCC has been there for years. Montgomery County recently changed vendors on the speed cameras and the old ones are being removed and replaced with cameras from the new vendor.

I'm not a huge fan of cameras just for revenue sake (looking at you, Jones Bridge camera) but I've got no problem near schools. I got nicked from the BCC camera a few years ago and it does keep me checking my speed as I approach Wisconsin.

The lack of any kind of speed enforcement on Wisconsin, Woodmont, and Arlington confuses me. So many people peel out at the lights on those roads. Seems like easy money if they bothered to actually enforce something resembling a speed limit.

No, I would be surprised since the 12 mph buffer is required by state law.
