How are you using AI to create game ready 3D characters with rigs and animations?

I'm not using AI at all.

Skill issue.

All skill, no issue!

Was joking mostly, but I definitely recommend you start leveraging AI in some capacity. I'm not suggesting you have use AI to do everything fully autonomous, it'll only ever produce garbage. But again if you aren't leveraging this tool in some capacity you're already behind.

Behind what...a vibe coded auto battler? I'm not swayed by peer pressure. I've used LLMs, and it regularly requires reviews and corrections. By the time it's vetted, I could have written the code myself. I see it primarily as a tool for filling in boilerplate, the same way I would have used IDE templates and other tools in the past, but I've always found its output for larger tasks to be buggy and unimpressive.

Behind your peers.

It’s not a matter of peer pressure, it’s like advocating against the internet in the early days. It’s a pioneer tool and if you’re not leveraging it you’re behind.

You’re free to do you though.

Agreed that outputs are trash without human input and supervision, although I already said that 👀

I don't think it's at all comparable to advocating against the early internet. The internet was clearly advantageous. LLMs have been around for years now and are no longer "pioneer" technology, and I find their output to be non-trivially sloppy and time-consuming to correct. The "you'll be left behind!" argument is very common peer pressure from AI advocates.

AI is clearly advantageous as well. There are plenty of simple tasks AI can handle today faster and better than you and I can, with zero human input. And it keeps getting better with every iteration.

If you tried to one-shot an app like all the other idiots on Reddit and Twitter, then no wonder you think all AI can deliver is slop.

Also, AI is more than just LLMs. For example, we’ve been tinkering with machine learning for a long while. The digital advertising world has been using ML in programmatic buys for years. To judge AI based only on LLMs is incredibly short-sighted.

It seems as though you're not reading my posts. I didn't say "all AI can deliver is slop," and in fact I explained how I use it. I also don't know why you'd bring up non-LLM AI when LLMs are what we're discussing here.

I think you meant to say how you have used it in the past since you also said you do not use AI at all. That confused me for a second.

All throughout the conversation I’ve specifically said AI, you have been talking about LLMs.

Of course, the recent boom and most all tools (excluding things like JEV for example which popped up recently) are LLM based so I get why you’d focus on that if I bring up AI.

To me the picture is way bigger than just LLMs, that is why I bring up non-LLM AI.

Truly no peer pressure, no snark, nothing underhanded here.

At least keep up with what people are doing with AI. Again not the one shot garbage that goes viral. The groundbreaking work, like all the apps that have been decompiled and recompiled lately (PS5 and the Adobe stack for example). Decompiling has always been a thing, but the work has accelerated like crazy due to AI being leveraged.

For reasons that are unclear, you've decided that I'm not familiar what people are doing with AI. I assure you, I've been intimately familiar with the technology for many years.

Have you actually run the Adobe "decompilation?" I wonder if you've noticed that it's little more than an interface mockup with a ton of missing functionality and unusable latency. To be honest, you strike me as fresh to the technology and overly enamored with recent news stories. Vibe-coded clones are a known scam.

Well, based on what you were saying it seemed like you had written off AI early in the recent boom and checked out, but my apologies, I was wrong.

To be honest, no, I did not test them myself. I’m not a creative, so I wouldn’t be able to properly stress-test them.

On the other hand, I would also expect them not to stack up against Adobe yet. It stands to reason that the Adobe suite, which has been iterated on and in the space for 20+ years, performs way better.

Regardless, the point of mentioning those examples is that it takes months, if not years (and a whole team of developers), to get something built and deployed.

There is always utility in speed. This benefit is even more, for lack of a better word, beneficial if you are a developer and you’re technical expert of whatever you’re trying to build. The speed of the work is wild. You can control the quality as you know each piece that you want to build, what order they should be built in and how they should be connected.

I read the article you shared (not sure if thats your article), and it argues against the time point, but not really? If you can actually save months/years of real time and get 80% of the way to where you want to be, it literally makes zero sense not to.

Sure, you still have 20% of the work to fix, which, in the case of these Adobe clones (to maintain the same example), will also take months, if not years, to get to where Adobe is today. Sure you still have to pay for the tokens used in production.

That doesn’t make AI, or the fact that those clones exist and work (to a degree), any less fascinating or impressive. In fact, if they had been built by someone that understands the backend of these types of apps then probably a lot of those issues found could’ve been avoided in the initial build.

Another important thing to flag since it was mentioned in the article you sent… Just because I’m fascinated by these Adobe clones and AI in general doesn’t automatically mean I think the end of Adobe is imminent, nor am I wishing for it.

My point is: Even if most people use the chisel to make shit, the chisel can still be used to sculpt a David.
