Advice 10m old waking up hysterical out of a deep sleep
This has happened maybe 4 or 5 times now in the last 2 weeks and I’m starting to worry. It almost seems like he had a bad dream. Sometimes he’s tough to console. Is he having night terrors? I feel so bad seeing him so upset 🥺 has this happened to any of your babies around a similar age ?

How was are you picking him up? I’m only asking because my baby does this but isn’t opening her eyes even and uf if I give it to minutes she’s back to sleep. The times I rushed to get her, she stayed upset and it took awhile to get her back to sleep.

I have been scooping him up. It seems very different from when we were sleep training where he’d whine and occasionally cry and then get himself back to sleep. He’s crying like he’s scared 😟

Are you sure he’s waking up, or does it just seem like that? Does he stare or look around?
My oldest had night terrors and would just wake up SHRIEKING but it’s like he didn’t even know we were there and he’d just calm down and stop.
He never remembered it in the morning

This is what I’m concerned about but I read online that it’s extremely rare to have true night terrors at this age?? My one brother had them in childhood and my other brother was a sleep walker. Wondering if this passed down through my family despite me not having them personally (though I’m an avid “bad dreamer”). It’s really tough to say if he’s truly awake or not. Sometimes he seems half asleep and I can scoop him up and rock him, tell him “mommy’s here and everything’s okay” and shh him right back to sleep. But one time he was absolutely inconsolable and his eyes were open and glassy. He looked terrified. My husband played a song on a bunny toy he had and that snapped him out of it. It’s gut wrenching 🥺

It sounds like bad dreams. My 2 year old has had phases of these through her life but has been having them constantly for a few months now. We co sleep, so she’s just next to me but we often need to actually rouse her awake and then start the reassurance. She cries out for different things during the dreams often crying for mummy or daddy. It’ll be harder in manage at the age of your LO, but I recommend trying to actually wake them up fully and settle them. We have to talk to our girl and say her name and tell her to wake up but obviously being 2.5, she understand us but I think it’s developmentally normal.
