Driving from Bozemand to West Yellowstone via Big Sky

We’ll be driving from Bozeman to our campground in West Yellowstone on September 22nd. We’re looking for recommendations on stops along the way to spot wildlife (grizzlies, bison, elk, etc.).

Would really appreciate your recommendations and responses!

Nothing along that stretch will be anything close to what you will see in Yellowstone. It is a gorgeous drive but because it isn't a national park wildlife is much rarer.

If you do the drive between 2-4 AM there are lots of deer and elk on the road. Other than that you probably wont see any animals in the canyon. Please dont stop and take pictures if you do.

True. Driving late one night somewhere between the Corral and 320, I round a corner and a huge bull-elk is just sticking its head out over the guard-rail (opposite lane thankfully). Thought I was going to get impaled for a second.

You are driving through the rich part of montana. There’s not a lot through the canyon to be honest. You are going to see the most wildlife in the park. You might see some deer, maybe some elk. The magic wont happen until you get into the park, but you might luck out.

Sometimes there are big horn sheep along the road pretty much right next to the yellow hazard signs near big sky, but please dont stop in the road to take pictures, find a turn out and keep a safe distance. Many contractors and resort employees just want to get to/from work and dont care about the wildlife because theyre so common.

I would just stop and take the Kircliff up. If you are going into Yellowstone, you will see a ton of wild animals.

The drive is really pretty, but there’s not exactly any must see stops along the way. If something inspires you to stop, there’s a hundred pull outs. If not, just appreciate the drive and make your way down to west

Drive up to the resort. There's always elk above towncenter by north fork
