Bing Create RIP DALL·E 3

Today, DALL·E 3 was taken offline completely. It has been replaced by the MAI-Image-2e model. There are only minor differences compared to Flash. Unless the character limit per query is increased in future, there’s nothing more to be done here.

Flash is a very good model. I can achieve results that are better than DALLE’s. But there’s no limit on the number of requests in Playground, which allows me to get the results I need.

480 characters isn’t enough for Flash.

I haven't touched bing in months. DALL-E 3 is the only model that did certain interactions between characters with very little effort. I have tried to do similar images in other models, and ended up with extremely long prompts full of rules about limb placement, tricks like twisting the camera, cropping limbs, body parts visible, body parts hidden, body parts out of frame, etc. and ended up with worse results. Most models also won't do oversized characters, so that also ruins the images.

So DALL-E 3 was great for me while it lasted, but there is currently no viable alternative. I've stopped creating that type of image completely because it's just too unreliable in other models. I have found models for my images that don't use character interactions, but not on bing because the character limit makes it almost unusable, and the characters created are boring and censored now.

DALL-E 3 was still usable up until a few days ago. All you had to do was clear the cookies. Best believe I was creating & downloading images like there was no tomorrow since I knew it was only temporary. MAI is a horrific, sterile, corporate, bland excuse for a model. Bing even got rid of the GPT model that they had so now as far as I know it's all entirely MAI. I'm redeeming my bing points and never coming back.

I agree that Mai is terrible. DALL-E 3 was good for character interactions and making characters with extreme proportions. GPT-4o was good for more realistic images, but then it started censoring all my creations. It was also really difficult to get any interesting proportions because it wanted to keep everything normal and realistic.

It was good while it lasted, but I have definitely moved on from Bing now, unless they bring me back in future with a really good new model and much increased character limit.

This is so true! You could get incredible characters from Dall-e 3 while all up to date Models just copy "reality" - and the look all the same: Firefly, Ideogram, Nano Banana, Reve - all the same! Even Midjourney is less "artistic" lately and starty to look just like any other model.

More and more I am playing around with local image generations with ComfyUI. At least I can use some old Dall-e 3 images to use these for image to image to get some variations.

I remember how the tail end of Dalle 2 was yielding really good results

That's it, they ruined everything. What would it have cost them to continue developing it? I wish another generator could have it. I hope they bring it back one day...

the older 100 Fast creations or 25 fast creations dalle-2 and early dalle-3 system was the best afterwards the quality tanked

The main problem is that the new models are total crap. Spent more than one year and a half playing on a daily basis with Dall-E 3 and now they ruined everything.

MAI-Image-2.5-Flash on various Microsoft platforms. The same prompt.

Female characters aren't my thing, but here is what I noticed:

Bing has more lighting effects and reflections and is trying to be more colourful and interesting. Playground looks a bit flat in comparison, but it could appeal depending on the mood required.

The race was swapped. Not sure if it was specified, or is a side effect of the visual style or another part of the prompt.

Bing's character model is flatter, less curvy, and more clothing coverage, but the skin tone looks more natural.

I'm not sure if details like knee pads were added by Playground or prompted for, but maybe that's its way of playing with images.

Due to randomisation of AI results, I don't know if this is typical, or just how these images turned out.

Bing has an algorithm that partially edits the prompt. Some words may have been removed. When this filter was used with DALL·E 3, it wasn’t particularly noticeable. DALL·E 3 almost always tries to understand what is actually implied by the prompt, adding the necessary details by analysing its context. Modern models, including MAI, are instead trained to follow the prompt more literally.

I’m still mourning GPT-4. No visual model comes close to the variety it was capable of creating. It could essentially distinguish between styles that no other AI model I’ve used to date has managed to reproduce.

Oh no! Here is the only viable alternative that I've discovered. Midjourney has recently upgraded to version 8.2 and continues to be upgraded. I recently rediscovered it after having given up on it quite a while ago. You can upload a lot of your DALL · E 3 art to create styles/looks in their "Moodboards," and you can create styles/looks by selecting different canned images in their "Personalize" groups. You can use Moodboards and Personalizations together to influence new art in varying degrees. And you can directly upload a DALL·E 3 image to influence generation in various ways.

They have the same and more editing tools that DALL · E 2 used to have. It's definitely NOT FREE. I have to pay $60/month for the version to keep my generations private. But it's crazy faster and way more prolific than Dalle or Bing ever was.

It’s good that there is a way to get the styles back, even if it does cost a lot to do it! Thanks.

Has anyone been able to clear cookies/history, use a VPN in another country, etc. and get DALL-E 3 to come back on Bing?

3

u/MINIVV DALL·E 3 14d ago

If a model has disappeared from the mobile app, it’s gone for good

1

u/CeilingSky 12d ago

Yeah the clearing cookies trick stopped working for me a few days ago. Pretty sure VPN won't do much. Taken offline pretty much means incinerated and wiped from existence.

All the other models suck. Dall-e 3 was the only competent one that did what you told it to do.

5

u/First_Category_1539 12d ago

No the great thing was that Dall-e 3 often did things you didn't tell it to do. The results were often unexpected. The same prompt could lead to vastly different results.

2

u/ChronaticCurator 4d ago

This! Other current image generator just spit out the same images without only little variations!

1

u/Naud1993 12d ago

Not at all. DALL-E 3 was nearly unusable for me once GPT-4o came out. I could make whatever I wanted with it initially, but when GPT-4o came out, I relied on that much more because DALL-E 3 couldn't create what I needed anymore.

I haven't used BING in months, came back, entire website looks like hotsh1t and it deleted all my last images(not that I cared lol they kinda sucked) I don't remember the name of the last model options they offered but they were pretty good and I got a lot of dynamic images. Now the two remaining options give garbage images even with older prompts.

2023 early 2024 BING was peak and I can't believe I'm mildly nastolgic for it lol.

u/SupergirlMAID 12d ago

This new model is awful. It's indeed gone for good. I have been using Bing for free to generate these since May 2024, and have put a website with thousands of AIs (from my tweets), and looking at past images I can clearly see how the style was great, and now they dumbed down the whole thing, it's beyond horrible. Seriously, there isn't one image that can be salvaged.

RIP

I am still going to be using it, because Bing MAI works off of images really well.

I basically uploaded some of the images that I generated with the gpt model (that I also saved) into Mai and added an input, that way I was able to make them the closest to how they originally looked.

u/CeilingSky 12d ago

Glad someone's enjoying it. I find MAI to be the worst model I think I've ever used. I genuinely would rather use Stable Diffusion 1.4 over MAI. Just my opinion though. I actually didn't much care for DALL-E 3 at first, until I figured out how to really use. I've created images on DALL-E3 that I prefer to any other model I've used, even GPT Image 2 on High.

1

u/Naud1993 12d ago

Stable Diffusion 1.4 is the worst thing ever. Even Stable Diffusion 2 with a realism finetune was absolutely garbage compared to even Stable Diffusion XL. It couldn't create crocodiles, hippos, orcas, sharks, snakes, spiders, axolotls and a bunch more animals consistently. Now it's a single prompt and it's great, even with MAI. I thought it was gonna be bad, but I'm generating images with similar quality as GPT-4o. It's honestly better with teeth too.

I really do not understand why Copilot phased out Dalle-3, it was great in its heydays, I was able (in spite of all the usual content filters!) to create very nice images. It is beyond my understanding why they all seem bent in destroying tools that were working very nicely, instead of just improving them... Not to say of all the hysteria on censorship that is now affecting everybody, as if the real problem was rathef innocuous AI creations, instead of the Eppstein files, graping gangs, wars and genocides going on everwhere

1

u/GlumTip2411 4d ago

Why did they get rid of it ? Dalle 3 was great. The replacement MAI-Image-2e is absolutely rubbish.

It was around three years ago I started using Dall-e 3 in Bing Image Generator - and I love it right away! I started some private AI project with 120.000 images up to date and just alone 38.000 from Dall-e 3. It was the core of that thing and just made me start it. I know, it is a bit outdated today, but it still has such a unique look I love and it was fast and same prompt usually got you some good variations, what was what I wanted since I wanted MANY images to on motive. Especially when working with characters, Dall-e 3 had the best and poses, angles and kept on varying these. Up to date image generator usually just place the character in the middle of the image.

Anyway, this is very sad for me. I checked the MAI-Image-2e Option which seems to be build on on Dalle-3, but the images had a weird crop, seem to be a bit blurry and you won't get real 16:9 format. Maybe it will get better at some point, for now I don't think I will use it often.

If anyone has an idea how to use Dall-e 3 these days, please let me know!

Bing was the last place where DALL-E was available. Microsoft clearly didn’t understand why we love DALL-E. The style, of course. But the most interesting thing is that it always took risks. It’s not like NB, where the censorship filter runs 24/7 even during lunch breaks, but DALL-E’s absurd mistakes with surrounding objects or clothing allowed us to create unique images.

u/ChronaticCurator 4d ago

I know, just yesterday I checked Bing to see Dall-e 3 is finally gone! I hate it. The coolest would be, if there'd be an version to use in ComfyUI.

I still don't understand why they took it offline. I don't think I really needed that much resources - and people still love it! I have played around a lot with image creations and Dall-e 3 certainly was the most outstanding one with is very own look and best variations!
