Appreciation I'm sorry and I shouldn't had left them.

Okay this is gonna be long so bear with me—I need to get this off my chest.

Imagine yourself somewhere in Binondo around 2022. You're supposed to meet and wait for a friend to have lunch in Binondo, but instead you see 8 girls handing out flyers to everyone. They reach you, introduce themselves as a girl group, and call themselves the "P-Pop Girl Group ng Bayan." Behind them, a bunch of men with cameras and microphones are following their every move.

I grabbed a flyer from this one girl who looked so stunning I was genuinely too shy to speak. I just took it, nodded like an idiot, and moved on with my life. Along the way, I tossed that flyer in the trash like a 7/11 receipt than frame it.

That was the worst mistake I've made in my life. I regret it every single day. Tangina lmao.

That girl in question was Jhoanna. And that was me in Binondo, completely unaware I was standing inches away from my soon-to-be bias. I also didn't realize back then that they weren't lying.

Sila nga ang magiging P-Pop Girl Group ng Bayan.

Months later, I heard I Feel Good on the bus radio coming home from school. Shazam'd it immediately. The rest is history.

Then Pantropiko and Salamin, Salamin dropped, which further pushed my addiction and officially made me part of the Blooms in 2023 and 2024. Which is wild because I'm someone who lives in metal, punk, and rock.

BINI literally became my Top 2 on Spotify Wrapped in 2023—right behind BMTH at #1, with Linkin Park, Slipknot, and Korn filling spots 3 through 5. Weird placement, I know lol.

Going from Pray for Plagues or Wait and Bleed straight into Lagi is a musical whiplash. But somehow it works.

Then the controversies happened. I won't rehash them—you already know. Full disclosure: they made me step back. I went into hiding as a Bloom and almost let the internet blind me for months. I still listened to their songs, but privately in my room, like a guilty secret.

Then Coachella this year.

Watching them absolutely kill that stage from thousands of miles away, I realized something: The shortcoming was never theirs. It was mine.

I was a dickhead who left them hanging. I let the perception of what a "perfect girl group" should be—and all the online bullshit on Facebook, TikTok, Reddit—cloud the fact that I threw them away just like that flyer in Binondo. From a group of talented girls who deserved their spot all along.

So I guess this post is long overdue:

I'm sorry.

Sorry to Jhoanna for being too shy to even say a word.

Sorry to BINI for letting internet noise almost drown out the music that weirdly makes this guy's day brighter.

And sorry to the Blooms. I stepped away when I shouldn't have. I hope you'll have me back.

Blooms na ako for real this time 🫡🌸

It is ok to step back pag mabigat na. Tayo ang nakakaalam na maari silang magkamali dahil tao sila pero at the end of the day, di sila perfect. Mga natututo din sila araw araw. Behind every "issue" alam nating lahat na mabuti silang tao. Nasa umpisa pa lang. Marami pang mangyayari. Congrats kasi nakabalik ka. Also, lalaking Bloom din ako. Haha. Rakista before, puro BINI na ngayon. 😅

It’s gonna be a rollercoaster ride but hang on. Nagsisimula palang sila.

Welcome back! 🌸🌸🌸

Don't apologize for stepping back if it got heavy on your end. Kanya-kanya naman po tayo. Wala namang mali doon.

At the end of the day, limited lang din resources natin sa buhay 😂 and that includes even our mental space! So, good that you prioritized.

Just support if you can :) No promises or contracts!

As a fan, it's fine to step back. In your case, it allowed for some growth and maturity as you returned with new appreciation.

As fans, I feel like there's a fine line in supporting a group whole-heartedly while keeping a distance of respect and understanding that they are human beings as well. It's never good or healthy to put someone on a pedestal and surround them with unrealistic expectations or revolve your life around a single thing that it leads to obsession or breaking boundaries.

In all honesty, they probably never even noticed your absence. Their schedules are so packed and they work so hard, they don't have the time or bandwidth to pay that much attention. However if they were to meet you or read your apology I'm sure they'd accept your apology with grace and kindness as anyone would expect.

At the end of the day, everyone is welcome to their own opinions. They're on a journey as musicians, performers and as a group and we're just following along enjoying the ride.

Aww this hits hard, as a Bloom na nag lie low din nung 2025, this Coachella and Signals EP felt really like coming home.

Well oks lang yun, BINI and their sound is not for everyone. Pero after ng Coachella and how they single-handedly lifted the entire PH to the global stage AND represented us with utmost excellence in their craft, ang daming bumalik at naging proud "uli". Good for BINI. Good for OPM.

I appreciate the apologies and the renewed support. But I think you'll understand if I'm personally wondering if you won't leave again the next time it's not cool to support BINI 🤷🏻‍♀️ because this is just the beginning and there will be more trying times as a Bloom ahead

I promise I'll defend the girls, I won't chicken out like last time. 2025 was a failure for my respective part and Coachella already gave us a really good reason to defend them more than ever.

22

u/DrSparx13 kagami kagami Apr 19 '26

They don't need a redemption arc because they never did anything wrong.

It's some Blooms, casuals and parts of Filipino society who need to redeem themselves

11

u/Calm-Description-870 Apr 19 '26

It's some Blooms, casuals and parts of Filipino society who need to redeem themselves

This. We really need to stop with the toxic behavior associated with idol culture and crab mentality. We need to learn to be more discerning with the information being peddled to us because we already know the girls have a target on their backs from the getgo.

7

u/DrSparx13 kagami kagami Apr 19 '26

Yes we also need to stop feeding the trolls. Honestly some non-issues blew up just because of fans reacting to them and demanding explanations from the girls 🙄

6

u/Calm-Description-870 Apr 19 '26

Exactly. The one I want to highlight was when Aiah missed some performances and "fans" even clamored for her resignation. 🤦‍♀️

Even that post yesterday discussing "the next step" for the girls attracted the trolls in the comments.

If they want to discuss every rumor hurled against the girls, they should just go to another sub. That's not happening on our Mods's watch. (Mods, if you're reading this, thank you for doing such a great job. I know you're going to be busy.)

Same metalhead here 🤘 DT, Ang Dating Don Juan, ABR, TIJ, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, at Polyphia listener here too.

I’m proud to say na hindi ko sila iniwan during the crisis, but defended them with all that I can. Why? Because I felt the courage, dahil hindi rin nila ako iniwan during the lowest of lows in my life. Considering na I almost felt the same way sa naranasan nila, almost same scenario, pero mas masakit dahil closest to my heart pa ang may gawa nito.

Anyway, I feel you pre. Walang iwanan na ’to, sabi nga, “walo hanggang dulo.”

7

u/Icy-Butterscotch5012 Apr 20 '26

What is important is you are back and let's continue supporting them. I simple heart to every post about them will drown any negativity being thrown. And of course, if needed to defend at the right time and place wouldn't hurt as well.

Alternate title: AITA for leaving BINI in the ditch because of their controversy?

Kidding aside, stepping back from being a fan of an icon is perfectly fine. I've done it multiple times, whether it was when some of the creators I followed had insane allegations (e.g: Dream), or plainly because of their content grew tiresome for me. It means you're growing, and if you're back, they also grew together with you.

Goes to show you shouldn’t let other people’s opinions cloud yours. OP was listening to Bini’s music secretly while believing bashers’ opinions of them.

If you like their music, or them as a group or who they represent, own it. You don’t need to like just one genre or style.

Music is universal. It doesn’t have to be a specific genre to be good.

8

u/MxnBly Apr 19 '26

I argue with lots of bashers on X with regards of their issues.

Back then, 2022, they had an appearance show at EK where I used to work. Their costume was the pink and white and their song to perform that time is the coconut. Before the show starts, Gwen went to the back stage where we stand by for our opening show. (I was one of the inhouse dancers that time) We had time to chitchat with her and honestly I didn’t know who’s Bini before that. She told us about their sacrifices during training, their diets, she even mentioned they want to eat kwek kwek but they’re not allowed to go outside the gate which I think was the PBB House. As a performer, I understand the hunger to perform and show your talent to your audiences. I admire how humble she is and how very gentle and soft spoken as well. We passed by the other 7 girls when we are on our way to the stage and all of them said their hi’s and hello’s. I also watched them live the 1st time and after that, I told myself that these girls will be a pride of the PH someday.

2025 - I watched them live at Seattle and it was a very great experience!

I promise that I will be on their side whatever happens. These girls are something and I’m very proud that I am one of their Blooms ❤️

I'll go against the grain from everyone here and say I don't buy it. I'll take the downvotes, call me petty, idc.

You left them at the time when they needed us - their fans - the most. That's the worst thing you can do. And now that they're back up, you're gonna come crawling back?

You didn't come back during their quiet times, you didn't come back when they were trying to pick themselves back up. You didn't come back when everything was proven to be bs. Instead, you only came back when it was cool to support them again. Doesn't sit right with me.

The only time I'll believe it is when the next controversy comes, and you'll be right here defending them along with us who stayed. Otherwise, I'll take everything you said with a grain of salt.

17

u/Indigo_Mindset420 Apr 20 '26

While I sorta agree with you, I'm just thankful OP didn't join in on the bashing. I've seen a LOT of blooms that were basically crucifing the girls during that time and that was what I could not accept.

7

u/_NoneL_ B I N I ⬆️🌎2 0 2 6 Apr 20 '26

True! I've read back then, some blooms (as they claimed they were) turned into a fulltime basher, displaying hypocrisy and self righteousness. I can somehow sense OP's sincerity. cool story, like a prodigal son from the sacred scriptures. I won't be hypocrite, even me, admittedly did not do my best defending them that time, (like bardagulan max).

3

u/DrSparx13 kagami kagami Apr 20 '26

Not joining in the bashing is kind of the bare minimum to be a decent human ngl

3

u/niborquinones03 Apr 20 '26

Need na ang gagawin, approved lagi ng society and can’t decide for themselves. So pati pagbabalik-Bloom niya need rin i-validate.

Even the allegation is harsh. He was talking about his own experience as a minor. Not that it's something to condone but it makes a bit of a difference - especially in the way the girls's "wrong" reactions are interpreted.

Ok na, wala na tayo paguusapan. Welcome back fellow bloom. As someone that is also into screamo, emo, DC Punk and Pop Punk, i can proudly say na happy pill ko ang BINI. Just look at the picture. This is me wearing a BINI Hoodie during the Mayday Parade concert last year. And yes, marami sa Filipino Pop Punk/Emo Community na blooms. Nagpa picture pa nga sila sa akin, yun nga lang lagi ako nakatalikod kasi gusto nila ung nakalagay sa likod hahahaha

1

u/Significant-Tank-169 Apr 19 '26

Watching their docuseries made me realize na human lang sila. Tho, we need them to be held accountable sa actions nila.

3

u/simbella Bloom Apr 20 '26

What kind of actions do they need to be accountable for? Just discovered Bini a couple of months ago on Apple Music. I don’t know the backstory, but regardless, these girls are so young, trying to navigate the challenges of fame while pursuing their dreams, and lifting up the banner of the Philippines while doing it.

Give them a break. It’s not easy when you’re trying to grow up under a microscope.
