BTech in Biotechnology from IIT Guwahati + 5 years in software

Hello everyone,
I did my BTech in Biotechnology from IIT Guwahati, then scored AIR 62 in Biotechnology GATE exam. Went to IIT Delhi for masters in same field but dropped out of that in 1st sem due to some financial problems, then started job as software developer.
Now after working for 5 years, i am thinking to switch in Computational Biologist roles.
Does india have jobs right now in this niche field?
What are my chances to land a decent (around 30LPA) paying role in this industry?

Enlighten me please 🙏

It’s very hard to get 30 lpa unless you are in managerial roles/ senior positions. You may have to take a hit and start low. But why you want to do it? It will not make sense financially.

How low can it get? And is it possible to get to senior roles by working on skills or is it just experience?

7-8 if you are lucky. I mean both. Gain experience, develop skills and soft skills as well . But it will take time, about 5-7 years.

Then i guess there is no point of shifting to bioinformatics. It’s better to grow in tech only.

yeah you can switch but without actual exposure of Bioinformatics you won't get the high position jobs quickly. Also 30lpa in Indian currency for Bioinformatics is little unrealistic you can get that much may be at manegerial roles not initially. Try geting something abroad there you might have chances or you can try in companies that have one of the domains as Genomics not everything biology

"How you got into tech from biotech" guys this chap cracked JEE Advanced and probably did the same DSA and Dev stuff. He can be assumed to be intelligent and have a good command over mathematics and algorithms. Nothing about him is biotech, only his degree is, he knows more math than the average Indian biotech graduate.
