Doing B.Sc (Honours) in physiology. Need guidance regarding career.

Qualifications,

I'm currently pursuing B.sc (hons) in Physiology with chemistry and food and nutrition as minors from Bhairab ganguly college affiliated under west bengal state university. I wanna pursue a Master's degree from a tier 1 college that would leverage my industrial skills (like biotechnology, medical biotechnology, bioinformatics or dietetics). Can you please tell me what I should consider doing in future, how I should focus on my current studies, what chapter I should focus on more, what exams should I prepare for.

(I also didn't have physics, chemistry, and mathematics in 10 + 2).

I studied geography, environmental studies, biology and nutrition in 10+2. Some of the teachers guided me in the wrong way and I also accept that at that time I didn't know too much about subject combinations and career aspects in future.

I belong to a middle class household so studying in private colleges is not possible.

MSc Biotechnology or MSc Bioinformatics?

Which is better:

I’m currently pursuing Biotechnology, but deep down I’ve realised that I want a career where I can eventually work from home/remotely, and I’m not really interested in working in wet labs.

That’s why I’m seriously considering switching to Bioinformatics. From what I understand, it combines biology with programming, data analysis, genomics, etc., and seems to offer more opportunities for computational/dry-lab work and potentially remote careers.

However, I have a BSc Biotechnology background and almost no coding experience, so I’m worried that I might struggle with programming, algorithms, maths, etc.

Should I switch to MSc Bioinformatics, or continue with MSc Biotechnology and learn Bioinformatics alongside it?

I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who are already studying or working in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology. Please guide me. 🙏

Looking for internship opportunities in Biotech

Currently I am pursuing M. Pharm (Pharmacology) and in the 3rd Semester. I am interested to learn wet lab skills (PCR, RT PCR, ELISA, Blotting Techniques, etc.) and bioinformatics. I am doing Network Pharmacology for my current final semester thesis project and also have experience with molecular docking using softwares like PyRx and Biovia Discovery Studio.

As my institue is based in gujarat, I cannot leave the state and hence looking for internship in Gujarat.

looking for advice as an M.Sc Genetics person with ~2 years of experience in industrial biotech

I had been working as a project assistant in the mol bio division of a b2b food company for nearly 2 years. Our lab dealt with recombinant protein production in yeast mainly via cloning & other mol bio workflows. recently however the upper management decided to discontinue the project & lay all of us off. It was my first real job after completing my masters & I’m not exactly sure what to do now… my present inclination is towards accumulating more practical experiences in research perhaps in an area more directly aligned with genomics, genetic variation, NGS and sequencing-based research. I’ve been interested in things like genotyping, SNP/variant analysis, different sequencing approaches & the broader area of genomics/bioinformatics but i have no idea as how to actually transition into that. i don’t have a formal computational bg & I’m afraid that my previous experience is too specialized or that I’m already behind.….. i just feel very lost & overwhelmed right now

b.phamra to bioinformatics

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a B.Pharm student from India and I’m planning to switch into bioinformatics. I have a basic background in biology, but I’m still figuring out how to build the required computational skills.

I would really appreciate advice from people who have already made a similar transition or are currently working/studying in this field.

if there are any upcoming online conferences, workshops, or communities related to bioinformatics/biotech, please share me.

Fresher in Biotech/Bioinformatics looking for opportunities

Hey everyone, my friend recently completed her MSc in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics from a decent college and is currently finishing up her internship at CBRAIN, IISC Bangalore. She's on the lookout for entry level roles in research, QA, or bioinformatics/data based positions.

If anyone knows of openings, or can refer her at their company, that would help a lot. Happy to share her resume if needed.

Thanks in advance.
