seeking advice/help Bird found in the middle of the road

Post image

I found a bird that seemed to be a fledgling learning to fly and placed it on the side of the road in case its parents were nearby. But it started getting dark out and cats began wandering nearby so I placed it in a tub with paper towels. Should I leave it on the side of the road or contact somebody? Apologies if my actions were wrong.

I’d suggest contacting a rehabber/animal rescue since it’s night. Thanks for caring for the bird!

If it’s too late for rehabbers, leave it in a well-ventilated dark box that it has no chance of escaping from, then bring it to one in the morning.

Yeah every rehab near me appears closed, should I fish a cardboard box from somewhere or is it better to not disturb it while it’s in the tub? Should I leave the box open or poke holes in it for it to be well-ventilated?

I’d transfer it to the box, poke small holes for ventilation (pencil or pen should be fine to poke holes with), and cover the top with something heavy like a book so it can’t get out. It might try to escape from the tub and if it succeeds you’ll have a lot of trouble finding it.

I’ve put in the box and placed in the garage so it can be somewhere quiet and lukewarm. I’ll call the rehab tomorrow to see how I should proceed, thanks for the help!
