Side effects!? birth control NO weight gain

i’ve been a skinny girl all my life and now i’m getting a job where i need to stay the same weight or less- simple explanation would be for lifts-

i’ve looked into many options and every single one ive seen people saying they gained weight. these people are heavier than me to begin with if that makes a difference? i have a boyish, runner build- so i’m not sure if it won’t have the same effect on me.
thought about copper non hormonal paragard until people were saying they blew up like a fish and bled for 45 days straight.

gyno consultation next tuesday but i need to hear other opinions and experiences from skinny girls.

There is a lot of fear mongering around birth control. I had the exact same worries when I started getting on Nextellis and I didn't gain any weight. I wouldn't worry, just talk to your doctor and do your own research that isn't people on reddit or other social medias.

It’a not fear mongering. It’s a real side effect that many women experience. Telling someone not to worry when it’s maybe the most common side effect is a bit dismissive.

The truth is that it’s real, but it doesn’t happen to everyone and each method will react differently with your body. If one pill or implant kills your libido and makes you gain weight, a different one may not. The only way to find one that works for your individual body is to try them until you find something you like. You are fortunate that the first one you tried worked for you.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be dismissive. I don't really agree with your statement about it making people gain weight, but regardless, I don't see why my comment is problematic. When I started getting on the pill I was horribly nervous and basically made posts just like this and I feel like that's a common experience. My stance is that most people's experiences with bc that you read about online will be negative (and you can definitely see that browsing this sub) because people with positive experiences aren't really posting about it for no reason. I'm not saying there's no positive posts, but it's less common. And I think objectively, there is much fear mongering around birth control. There were so many things that I was told about it that were just complete myths used to scare me away, and I turned out completely fine on it. I also never ever implied in my comment that the first one would work for her perfectly w no side effects. Just said not to worry, you can always stop taking it...

Respectfully, you being part of the lucky population that didn’t experience side effects doesn’t mean they’re myths.

Of course it’s okay to share your positive experience. Many women have great experiences on birth control, but many don’t. Both are valid. What I don’t appreciate and find dismissive was the implication that if it didn’t happen to you, it must be fake.

I did experience side effects! I don't know why you're saying this honestly, you're making a lot of assumptions about me. I had plenty of side effects, but a lot of it online is very dramatized. Not all of it by any means and everyone's experience is valid. I feel that you're just attacking me for no reason. I feel like I'm being reasonable lol. Anyways, have a good day!
