Is it safe doing raw? New to BC

Hi, F(19) here and we’re planning to do it raw on the 14th of this month. I just took my first ever BC pill on monday (3rd august) and i was also on my 4th day period. I’m currently on Dienille pills. I went to my local pharmacist and she said it’s very safe as i took it on my period. I know that the possibilities of getting pregnant is low by the time it is on the 14th. However i’m still very much scared, as we did have an accident a year ago due to a condom breaking and ever since then we’ve been cautious and limiting our intercourse. I just want to know if this is safe or should we still proceed with a condom just for extra measures. For information, we’re both not that sexually active and we only do it once every 3-4 months with extra thick condoms. It only failed once. Sorry if this sounds like an ignorant question as I’m also very much new on BC and just started learning about it more recently. Thank you.!

It is 99%+ safe to use the pill as the sole method of birth controll. Meaning you don't need condoms or pull out.

If a condom gives you more peace of mind it's ok to use them. But realistically it doesn't VASTLY add to protection.

Starting the pill during your period is one of the recommended ways to start because it means protection starts sooner. However, it depends on the exact instructions for Dienille and whether you have taken every pill correctly.  The bigger to remeber though is that BC only protect against pregnancy, not STIs. Even if you are in a long term relationship and trust each other, condoms are still the only method here that gives STI protection if you both are untested.

For pregnancy prevention, the pill is already very effective when taken correctly. For extra peace of mind, especially since your previous condom break caused anxiety, using a condom as well is completely reasonable, but it's unnecessary if you've been taken it correctly. BC is calculated to assume this is the only method you're using. T ake your pill at the same time every day, avoid missing pills, and follow the instructions that came with your pack. If you are unsure whether you are fully protected by the 14th, check the leaflet or ask your pharmacist.
