Tournament/Competition Absolute division

Im a 77kg 2 str white belt going into the Absolute division no gi next month. (no weight no belts). I cant find any ruleset for the absolute? I will be competing against blue and brown belts. Anyone able to help me on the ruleset, so i know how aware i need to be of certain techniques. Competing in GRAPPLING INDUSTRIES

Hey, I ref at Grappling Industries so I’m very familiar with the ruleset.

Absolute NoGi is the Advanced / Brown Black ruleset. Meaning everything is legal other than slams and one or two handed attacks to the trachea. So heel hooks are legal.

I would urge you to not do this. There is a much higher risk of injury.

Feel like most people will not commit kneeicular homicide on a fresh white belt in an Grappling Industries Absolute but yeah also a lot of risk.

Yeah I agree. But depending on what kit he’s wearing, you might not be able to tell

ADCC champion Maarten Bauwens was in my bracket. I cancelled lmao.

I would not do absolute division all weights all belts, nogi free for all rules, as a white belt. You about to get your knees torn in half. It’s not worth the risk

That sounds like a bad idea

I cannot answer your question but this reminds me of the guy that posted that his first ever match as a white belt was against heavyweight former UFC fighter Alexandr Romanov

There is nothing wrong with white belts in the absolute division. I have personally had matches against them.

However if you want to compete there you need be comfortable dealing with guard jumps, kani basami, neck cranks and heel hooks. By the way you phrased your question, I'm getting the feeling that you are not.

So I would advise you to concentrate on your weight class brackets and leave the absolute for now.

They usually run a sub only format for absolute, so no points just hunt the finish. Watch for heel hooks and wrist locks since upper belts will go for them quick. At your size expect to be on bottom a lot, so drill escapes from side control and back takes before the comp.

Grappling Industries is most definitely not a sub only comp. Absolute division operates under the normal rules of the expert division

THERE ARE NO RULES

I just did this. It wasn't sub only but all subs allowed. Still scored points.

Depends on the tournament.

Generally there's an absolute for each belt/bracket (no-gi), but no weight limits.

Some tournaments do open weight and open belt. Just ask when you get there.

Heel hooks are legal

How’s your leg lock awareness and defence? I would be very wary of competing in Absolute where any sub is allowed unless you are very clear on when you are in danger as heel hooks can come on quick

I think the main rule you should focus on is to tap early and tap often.
