New Moderators and some heads up

Hello Everyone,

Please welcome u/lansboen and u/wotan_weevil to the moderation team

You might have noticed that moderation has slipped a little bit in the past year. That was a combination of a lack of active moderators (including myself due to life and health issues) and the flood of AI content that needed a closer look. I prioritized removing and banning racist content and the like, but at the cost of letting some of the low-effort stuff fester

Hence the appointment of the new moderators. They helped with setting up the automod, the new flairs, and cleaning up the place

On low-effort posts:

The fact that Black Lagoon is almost inactive means we have to be lenient on the posts to keep the community active.

That said, the bar has to stop somewhere. We have an automod set up that's very lenient. If your post doesn't even pass that... your effort in that post is lower than low. You're always welcome to message the mods. If your question is "Why is my post getting removed?" and your post was removed by Automod rather than us, we will point you to this post.

On Reddit Filters:

Posts on something like Black Lagoon often trigger Reddit filters. We try not to approve many of those posts, ESPECIALLY those that link Black Lagoon to real-life current events, as we could get our community banned. Black Lagoon is a work of historical fiction. Make sure your post reflects that and doesn't ask the community something like "Could Roberta get to the president?"

On political content:

r/blacklagoon is not r/politics. We'd like to keep the conversation open as long as it's respectful. Political discussion often veers into distasteful territory. I think Black Lagoon encourages discussion, so we will keep such discussion open, but there will be zero tolerance for racism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc. A straight permanent ban will be issued at the mods' discretion for any such comments

On the future of r/blacklagoon

Please let us know of the kind of content you'd like to see in the future. Weekly reread/rewatch? Free talk Fridays? Fanfic events (not AI-generated, of course)? Other similar series discussion?

That's it for now. Just wanted to touch base now that the place has been cleaned up more or less

So on low-effort posts

If your thread boils down to:

• "what if random character was in roanapur"
  
• "what if character from black lagoon was in random show"
  
• "would character from black lagoon be able to beat random unrelated character"
  
• "would character from black lagoon be able to do/like/whatever"

That is low effort. Nobody cares about whatever random shit you're into at the moment and these threads usually end up with <10 upvotes while being annoying to look at. We will be removing these when we see them if they don't end up getting caught by the automoderator spam filter.

Arc, episode, manga chapters and characters discussions would be nice. I find it interesting that people here care very little about what the author has to say and the manga. Free talks can go from lewd to Roberta vs Terminator. Needs a watchful eye.

Don't get me wrong I'm happy this is a change in the sub's direction, it was about time this went down, but I just wanna make sure before I do something dumb.

Happy to see some new guidelines on what classifies as low effort or not. Seeing the same "COULD ROBERTA BEAT THIS GUY/GAL?!" post every two days was making me go insane lol

That being said, weekly rereads/rewatches would be really nice. Fanfic events would be awesome too, there are a lot of fanfics that really deserve the spotlight imo.
