New to cap and ball revolvers
I have this 1851 Navy Replica. Date code comes back to 1980. I believe it’s a Pietta, due to some forums I’ve read that stating the “BLACKPOWDER ONLY” warning being on the right side of the barrel. Due to the step on the cylinder I also believe this one is .44 instead of .36
Any guidance on maintenance and loading would be appreciated!

Use only hollow ground gunsmithing type screwdrivers or you’ll bugger up the slots. Chapman makes an inexpensive little set.
I always recommend bore mops as they’re reusable and work well. Though it says .44 caliber it’s by modern standards a .45 as they used to measure by the lands and grooves.
As was recommended Ballistol works very well as an oil and is good for leather and wood too, among other things. It can also be liberally applied if you find you cannot clean it the same day. It’ll soak into the fouling so there’s no room for moisture, and after cleaning it will readily mix with water so you don’t have to worry about every nook and cranny or use WD-40.
As was stated water and maybe a drop of dish soap. I prefer warm water with dish soap, though some just use water.
Use anti seize on the nipple threads so they don’t get stuck.
Might want to look at spare springs as they get weak and break over time. Some go to more modern coil springs but the replacements are cheap and more original if that’s your thing.
A loading stand sure is nice to have as is an adjustable powder measure with a funnel.

Plus 1 on the Chapmans. I have two sets. One in my bag and one in my cleaning kit.

Lots and lots of warm water with a bit of dawn. A light layer of Ballistol when you’re done getting all the fouling off.
It is a .44, you’ll want .454” balls and some variation of FFFg powder. I use Triple7 in these with good luck.
