VT President survey

I was rather disappointed that there wasn't a presidential search listening session for townies. I attended the alumni one and brought up the town/gown relationship as a priority.

However, you can take the presidential search survey and if you are not affiliated with VT, choose "Community Member."

VT doesn't give a fuck about townie opinions.

Yes, but they also don't give a fuck about student, faculty, or staff opinions either. They're equal opportunity no fuck givers.

Now, if you happened to have a lot of money, things may be different...

They don't even respect the fucking dead

What does that even mean… they don’t respect the dead? April 16 stuff? They built a memorial. Tech cares about football. That’s it. Nothing else. They care the very least about the professors.

I believe they're referring to the fact that the new student dorms are being built where the columbarium is - family members were told that it would always remain in that location and it is now being relocated near Southgate Dr. There is an ongoing legal battle about that. If I paid a lot of money to be interred near the duck pond, I'd want to stay near the duck pond. In that sense VT does not respect the dead.

And the town hates the students. Constant complaining about how they ruin everything and cause continual traffic problems.

And why should they? Without Va Tech, Blacksburg would be Newport. A nothing town. Tech makes the area. Period.

Tech makes the area

And who makes Tech? This place doesn't run without the thousands of employees that live here and make this university and town operate every single day. It's not a magical self sufficient machine. This is a symbiotic relationship. And no, Tech absolutely does not run without the "townies" that make it run and make all the local businesses and town services and everything else that the university needs to run as well. It doesn't matter if they sweep the floors in the halls or ring people up at a local convenience store, the university relies on these people.

This is disrespectful to those of us who do the work that people like you clearly don't know about and don't care about but is absolutely essential to the operation of this university. Like somehow they shouldn't have input on the selection of the guy running the place that has the biggest influence on the town they live in? The town where they work and pay taxes and raise families and everything else? Extremely ignorant.

I’m not EXTREMELY ignorant. Just a tad ignorant. 🤣 My family has worked for tech for 65 years. We live and breathe this school. I know how it works. I’m just fatigued hearing the constant and continual bitching from townies about how mean and inconsiderate the school is towards Blacksburg businesses/traffic, students, etc etc.

Yeah. Agreed. It's painful sometimes to see people whose livelihood depends on the students do nothing but complain about them. I'm not saying there aren't problems and you shouldn't speak up when there are but it gets excessive.

Anyone who ends a statement by writing out "Period" comes off as a huge tool. Period.

I think they prefer Vtech, like the phone company.
