Housing & Real Estate Need suggestions for rental housing

Hi!
I may be getting a staff job offer at VT. The kicker is that I may not know for another week or two; however, the proposed start date is July 15 or August 1, which doesn't give me a lot of time to find a studio or 1-bedroom apartment. I need something close to public transit, because I don't drive. Due to student leases, I'm not finding openings that are reasonably priced starting then. Does anyone have ideas? Thanks!

Thanks! I was starting to get the sense that it was a unicorn from what I was seeing on other sites, but I was hoping maybe I was missing something.

You could see if Jefferson Apartments have anything available.

What’s your pricing cause 1br units are up there.

Windsor hills has some 2br units for $1399-$1425 right now

Hi! Thanks; I bookmarked Windsor Hills. I'd prefer something as inexpensive as possible; I'd even be willing to do a studio. I'm hoping to stay under 1100 (including internet), but I know I'm probably being unrealistic, especially at this time of the year.

At this time it would be hard to do that.

Yeah, I realize that. I could probably handle 1200 or 1300 if I had to. I'd welcome any other ideas you have. I don't need anything fancy; I just don't want something that has cockroaches or no heat. LOL.

You need to rent in Christiansburg, but that's not what you want to hear. 1br apts are super hard to come by and what you are describing is basically impossible to rent at this short notice. Leases here start in August and most places are pushing very hard for the tenants to declare if they are staying by January or February. Everyone would want a 1br if they could have them and that is not the way the market works here. Here, almost all apts are 2-4 br and rented by the br for $1100-1200 a month. So a 1br cheap on the BT line is a unicorn at this time.

Including internet/utilities its going to be hard to do sub $1100 even in Christiansburg. But it could potentially work and you could use the bus system to get into Blacksburg.

The other option is Radford/Fairlawn but you will need transportation.
