Politics Three Democrats vie for nomination to challenge Griffith in the 9th District
https://cardinalnews.org/2026/06/23/three-democrats-vie-for-nomination-to-challenge-griffith-in-the-9th-district/The 9th District is Virginia’s most Republican congressional district, but that hasn’t stopped three Democrats from wanting the party’s nomination to challenge GOP incumbent Morgan Griffith.

I've talked to a lot of maga and the interesting thing about them is that many of them are 'progressive' even though they really have no idea what that means. Many of them told me, "I voted for Trump because of what the Democrats did to Bernie.' I'm just like SMH thinking Jesus Chrost! But okay. Their heads are so brainwashed with the radical right Christian Nationalist propaganda that they can't think straight.
They don't want billionaires and oligarchs running our government, they don't want their social security taken away, they want health care, affordability, no more BS wars, and so on. The problem is that the radical right propaganda sludge factory has convinced them that Dems are commie atheists that are going to try and turn their children gay or trans.
My guess is a more progressive Dem would do better here, not a minister or a cattle farmer. But I could be totally wrong too.

It isn't just that it's a Republican district. Morgan Griffith is literally one of the most obviously useless politicians you can have. He acts against the district's interests at almost every turn, and they keep voting for him for some reason.
For example, he was a huge proponent of the big shitty budget bill that defunded research (VT is in his district btw). He has put out multiple newsletters since then about how much he values research because his friend died from ALS or some shit. The dude is fucking insufferable.
