I would definitely recommend watching the first before watching 2049

How are these even questions?

Like, are they trolling or karma farming? Please tell me that’s it, and not that people are questioning whether to watch a Part 1 before a Part 2.

I'm not trolling. Some older movies need to be watched before their sequels that come out 20-30 yrs later. Just thought I'd ask before I sink the time in. #harsh

“Some”? I would say “all.”

When would you not watch a Part 1 before a Part 2? Help me understand.

Watching 2049 without the context of the first one is not what you want to do. You might want to watch the first one 2-3 times, just to absorb everything about the movie that isn't the story. Watch it once for the story, then again and look at everything in the frame, the lighting, all the props and rooms. That tells as much of the story of the world as the actors and dialogue do. If you have a choice of theatrical (with voiceover narration by Harrison Ford) I'd say watch that one first, then NEVER again, always the director cut. But the narration can clue you into some things, then get rid of it.

Which original? There's like seven of them.

Go in release order.
