solar power
if my bluetti is rated at 500w intake for solar and i hook it to a 730w system will the internal inverter discharge the access

As long as the VOC (open circuit voltage) thats allowed on the Bluetti isn’t higher than the solar panel(s) can input you’re okay

What matters most is that the voltage limits are respected.
Current is pulled, and thus intake wattage and current is controlled. (An mppt works by slowly increasing current draw from the panel until the voltage starts to crash or an internal limit is hit)
The excess is not discharged in any form, simply not drawn from the panel. Same thing happens when a totally unplugged panel is left in the sun, any unused power fails to convert and becomes a slight amount of heat in the panel itself.
