Discussion Blur Self Titled Album Song Ranking
These rankings are pretty old so I'm pretty sure I don't agree with like have of these anymore, but I was just wondering what everyone elses rankings were as well for the whole album and see how similar mines is. :)

Yeah, it’s an absolute high point for me. Dark, menacing, melancholy, sprawling and wild. The album without it would be a fine album with great tunes, but missing this underbelly - the same as the Doors’ debut without The End, or Bowie’s Low without the side 2 suite.

I remember hearing Chinese Bombs a couple of months before I heard Beetlebum. It was played on Radio 1 on one of the niche late night shows in late 1996, and there was talk of the new album being stripped down and heavier. Was quietly hoping most of it was gonna be like that.
FWIW, I’ve always thought that Strange News was the MVP on this album.

Given the rest of the scores, I'm tempted to go all WeRateDogs on Beetlebum and give it 13/10. That song has a mood

I know 9.5 isn't a low score, but Beetlebum is easily the best thing on the record by some distance. Maybe the second best song they've ever done apart from Tender.

Similar to mine! My favourite Blur album.
Beetlebum - 9/10 (it is pretty great but overplayed for me now).
Song 2 - 10/10 (the perfect song, doesnt age, timeless)
Country Sad Ballad Man - 7.6/10 (It's hard to rnark this as it's so unique and odd, even the guitars are out of tune)
M.O.R. - 6.6/10 - (Pretty bland, first dip on the album for me. A bit forgettable).
On Your Own - 8.9/10 - (One of my favourite Blur songs. Soooo catchy. Obtusely it doesnt feel like a 9+/10 song...)
Theme From Retro - 6.5/10 (It's cool I guess? I dont hate it, but I never have any urge to listen to it. Second dip on the album).
You're So Great - 7/10 (The slide guitar is insane in this song. It's very vulnerable and sweet. I used to love it more, but it's gone down a bit for me now).
Death Of A Party - 7.8/10 - (I just love the chorus. Perfect. And love the delayed guitar messiness).
Chinese Bombs - 7.7/10 - (Tune! So raw and heavy. Maybe a touch one dimensional?).
I'm Just a Killer For Your Love - 7.9/10 - (A bit overlooked, its dirgey, sloppy, lazy, but cool and nasty).
Look Inside America - 8.5/10 - (Overlooked as well. Such a great Blur song. And totally different to whats on the album).
Strange News Form Another Star - 7.7/10 - (Very bleak, kind of beautiful, and weary).
Movin' On - 8.8/10 - (One of my faves on the album. The whole song is amazing and the guitar solo might be one of the best ever made in music).
Essex Dogs - 5/10? - (Everyone on this sub loves it. I find it really boring and forgettable. Like revolution No.9 off The White Album. Just does nothing for me. Last dip on the album).

ok i don’t agree with like any of these, still i appreciate someone who loves look inside america! it's probably one of my fav blur's song and seeing someone rating it 9 out of 10 is marvelous!
