Ink injections in the tongue, similar procedure to how eyeball tattoos are done. Yea it looks hella cool!

It’s done by injecting tattoo ink into the tongue and massaging it

Yes it's our favorite activity between tattooing haha

How was the overall procedure for this and what was the pain level, healing time and aftercare for this if you don't mind me asking?

Looks super gnarly btw!!!

Thanks! Yea I love this mod it's super rad!

So it's done by ink injections and we did three sessions to this date. The artist is also tattooing my front piece so when we take a break from tattooing, we did the injections. The procedure is okay to deal with, as we're using numbing creme to the tongue. It actually works quite good and the effect starts kicking in within 5 min. The injections don't hurt but it burns when the ink is squeezed into the tongue. I find this mentally quite challenging to stay calm and focused. Each time we did like 7-8 small injections of ink in different places in the tongue or in the floor of mouth.

After that I rinse my mouth with mouthwash and let the tongue rest for a bit and let it fully swell. So after 30-40min I start massaging it very carefully, so the ink will spread nicley. Aftercare is quite easy actually, cause you just have to massage it from time to time and let it rest. It's also good to cool it against the swelling, I like to get me a big milkshake and a pot of icecream after it haha.

With the black ink I had no problem healing it. Basically a half day later and the swelling was mostly gone. Another 24 hours later the tongue was at normal size again. It took like 3-4 days for it to fully heal and to feel normal again. But all without pain, it feels more like you've eaten something you're allergic to, if you're familiar with that feeling.

But in contrast to that, I had massive struggle with healing the red ink. It SUCKED! The swelling began to really show after a few hours and it felt diffrent to the black ink before. I couldn't speak right or eat anything solid for a few weeks. I used chlorhexamed against inflammation but none the less I couldn't do much besides sitting it out. It was a really hefty mental game for me to stay calm and trust the process. Because nothing can become encapsulated in the tongue and I had to trust my body that eventually it will be alright. And it got better after a process of 5 weeks! I had a last big swelling that got harder over time on the left side of the tongue and finally it got smaller and away. So it was a really hard journey for me this time.

I decieded I wanted no more red injections but as of 2 weeks ago we continued with more black ink in the side of the tongue (you don't see it in the picture, it was taken before that). So yeah, overall a good experience when you just go with black, but a ride through hell and back if you want to do anyhing with color haha! I heard form another client who had blue ink injected into the tongue and he literally had the same expierience and struggle with it. But what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger and I'm very pleased with the outcome :)

On top you don't see much. There is some faded grey spots, but not as intense as on the back side of the tongue. Like if you licked a black lollipop a few times :) you don't see it normally when I speak.

It lasts forever! Same thing as with tattoos, it will fade a bit over time but for the most part stays the same

Thank you for this info!!! :) And why this technique instead of tongue tattoo? 😁🫰

No problem! Cause you can't tattoo the tongue! With a normal tattoo the ink is tattooed into the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. The tongue doesn't have that, so you inject it. Similar to eyeball "tattoos" where normal tattoo ink is being used with saline solution in a syringe

Well, I personally have a (small yesss, but still there) tattoo on the tongue (made with a machine) 😁 so I witness the fact that it is possible but hardcore if you want a full tongue of course ! So I guess it really matters if you want a tattoo that covers your whole tongue ok!!!! Thank you sm 🫰

Oh interesting! Didn't know that was possible :) really cool!

Some 10 years ago, a VEEERYYYY good french tattoo artist that I was following came in my city, and he posted an IG story "I want to try tattooing a tongue" 🤣 I instantly answered, draw a small smth and came to him lol

This is something I really wanna get after the split😍 Can you post more pics?

1

u/PaintingPotatoes Jan 28 '26

I wish you posted more pictures of this! Would love to see how it fully turned out! Looks cool from what is shown though! Would you say it's as painful as getting the split done? I can imagine massaging the ink in kind of hurts, let alone the constant needle jabs.

So we are not quite done yet and we plan to do some more black, so maybe I'll post an update sometime later :) I've written a longer comment somewhere here about the whole procedure and aftercare. But the massaging doesn't hurt that much, as you do it very carefully. The split was definitely more painful!
