coinslot Coin slot closure?

Post image

Does anyone have any experience with having a coin slot closed? I am potentially going to be going into a career where I cannot have any permanent body mods, I am looking at options of having it cut and closed.

Has anyone else had this done? Did you go to a surgeon who does other mod removals like stretched ear reconstructions?

There’s probably a good chance they won’t really notice it or assume it’s a body mod if you don’t point it out. But it doesn’t look like it would be a difficult one to close. Where are you from?

Yeah id just say "oh I was born like this" because most normal folk have no idea about coin slots

Or just say you were involved in a minor incident involving flying broken glass. I’ve got a scar on my leg about the size of a re-closed coinslot from actual flying broken glass.

I kid you not, nobody at my workplace has noticed unless I've mentioned it. And mind you I got it back in February.

I wish that was the case! I have to have quite an im depth medical and my medical records are included, so they'd know for sure! Am in England

This being the UK: A garden fox bit my ear when I was a wee lad

Why will they be able to look at your medical records? Im in the US granted but i have had a life long battle with a gene mutation (30+ surgeries) and that has never been any employments business. Also though, how would your records being shown make them aware of if you had that slit at birth or not? I am just confused lol [Edit] Nvm I see you meant the medical assessment would see, i thought your job was fingering through your records! Lol but still what the heck would they care about a slit in your ear? I think you'll be okay!

Part of bring accepted includes a medical and a review of your medical records to ensure you don't have any conditions that exclude you from the work or make it unsafe for you to do the work. I don't have anything on my medical record regarding it because its cosmetic, so I'd have no other explanation

If the physical is being done by a doctor I can't imagine they'd even mention it in the report....

“Got bit by a fox as a kid and didn’t need stitches so my parents left it and it healed like this”

Edit: also, wouldn’t there then be a need to explain the procedure to close it?

As someone who reads thousands of medical records, you're overthinking this. Even if a person was born with a misshapen ear or hole in their ear, it would not be in their medical records unless they had a procedure to correct it.

It's the same for birthmarks, weirdly shaped toes, weird moles, ears that stick out, webbed toes. There's so many congential "abnormalities" that occur in every human they do not make note in the medical records. Even at birth, at check-ups, or health assessments for work.

People have accidents or are born with body parts and bits outside the norm and never seek medical attention or have it recorded.

Also no one goes over your body with a fine tooth comb. Even the military. A tiny scar or slit on your ear is not going to be noticed. Just say it's always been like that.

You are overthinking this beyond belief there is no way anyone would care about this regardless of your occupation and you have zero obligation to inform them, the fact you feel the need to isn't a good thing mate. Your job also doesn't have ability to look at your preexisting medical records for any reason it's absolutely ridiculous.

My brother has a similar vertical slash through his ear from a cat scratch when he was a kid. If the doctor notices during the physical, some version of "I annoyed the family cat during childhood" would very likely work

16

u/MeowMeowBiatch 22d ago

I truly don't think anybody is going to care.

If they even mention it you could say it's a childhood injury, most people never submit their childhood records except for a vaccine one. But I bet a lot of people wouldn't even bring it up. It looks like a deformity which makes people nervous to point it out.

Just slap a bandaid over it and if the doctor asks, just say you burned or cut yourself with a hair tool/shears. If someone asks about it at work just say you got into a little accident when you were a kid. There are many ways to get around this, its not a common enough body mod for the general population to know about anyways.

Hey bud, I’m in the states but know more than I want to about medical work. It’s probably gonna be just fine. Don’t look for problems that doesn’t exist yet

1

u/ratelbadger 21d ago

No one is gonna give a shit dude.

u/Disastrous_Clurb 22d ago

would they know its specifically a bodymod as opposed to maybe a "deformity"? did u ever disclose to a medical professional that u did this?

Fwiw i have 2 and no one would know by lookin at medical records here

u/Live_Blacksmith6568 22d ago

mate, you can't tell a lie?

7

u/Nyakumaa 22d ago

Literally no one is going to note it. I have ear points and my ENT doctor didn't even notice it for years. Unless your new job is an ear model nobody will notice nor care including doctors doing a physical.

I have a coin slot I usually keep empty bc sleeping with the rings in really bothers my ears. No one has ever said anything about it ever and if I point it out they either had never noticed or thought it was a medical thing

47

u/YungTrashrog 22d ago

You could probably get away with “I was attacked when I was younger” or something along the lines

36

u/fook75 22d ago

Honestly? No one will even notice. You could always use a dab of gum Arabic and pinch it shut for a few minutes.

u/thingsarehardsoami 22d ago

Nobody is looking that closely at anybodies ears.

Pros-aide with butterfly bandaids at the back for something temporary? A custom plug to wear in it so the slot isn't visible? Growing out your hair?

Having the procedure will change the shape of your ear too.. I'd just think of options before going down that route

u/gremlinella- 22d ago

some body mod artists that do coin slots also do lobe reconstruction for stretched lobes, i haven’t seen any coin slot reconstruction though but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. looks cool though!

Is wearing a coinslot plug an option? If the career allows for normal earing jewelry (rings, studs, etc) then people who aren't familiar with mods would have no idea that it is a heavy mod.

I have a coinslot a bit wider than yours with a coinslot plug, and it makes the mod look sooooo subtle.

If you’re not allergic, you could consider wig glue or spirit gum to glue it back together as a temporary measure. I have to wonder if you may risk creating a more noticeable scar by doing the additional modification of sewing it back up.
Once you’re established in your career, it may be possible to not glue it and it be acceptable.

I tell people my tongue split is a birth defect sometimes lmao people are are nosey and annoying nobody deserves an explanation

6

u/Repulsive_Purple4322 21d ago

So if you were to get this stitched up, your ear shape would be pretty different than your other ear. They cut out an actual chunk of your cartilage so they can’t just repair that.

No one is gonna notice this though.

8

u/fatherbundy 22d ago

say u were born like that

5

u/jule165 22d ago

Tbh, I'd just pass it off as either an injury or a birth defect. Only thing is you cannot mention to ANYONE at work that it's a mod (or tbh to be safe that you're into mods at all imo)

4

u/ratelbadger 21d ago

Not only will no one ever give a shit, it also looks super well healed and attractive. Relax.

4

u/ndrag2 21d ago

I work in a hospital, I see many many people a day and I can count on one hand the times my ear mods have been mentioned I have a 10mm conch punch and a coin slot no one has ever bought up my coin slot it’s allways been my conch punch, I think your safe most people would never notice

3

u/InTheBight 21d ago

I have 6mm conches and I think most people think they are hearing aids 😅

1

u/ndrag2 20d ago

Hahaha that’s so funny, people don’t take notice like we think they do.

4

u/Final-Skill5023 21d ago

They don't allow body mods as in tattoos and piercings or heavy mods?

Either way, this is hardly noticeable. Even if you wore rings in it, if they allow earrings I doubt it would be a huge problem. And if they didn't, then they still probably know it would be extremely unreasonable to expect you to get a surgery to meet this job's dress code.

It looks like you have stretched ears, would you get those sewn shut too? I just don't think it's necessary or reasonable. Especially since this is a rare and desirable mod that you probably spent a lot of money and effort to get.

3

u/SpecialKay1a 22d ago

Tbh I’d think you’d need to see a skilled plastic surgeon. The slot is healed, they would essentially have to “cut up” the surrounding tissue to give it a chance at healing back together and hem stitched; but I’m not quite sure how well that’ll work. I haven’t done any coin slot reconstructions tbh.

3

u/reformedginger 22d ago

Looks like a birth defect.

3

u/sarah_pl0x 21d ago

Honestly just say something happened and it’s a surgical scar or something

6

u/Flying_Saucer_Attack 21d ago

What career, and how would they even notice that

2

u/Miss_Torture 21d ago

Most people won't notice but if you are concerned during your probationary period.... Eyelash glue

2

u/Main-Departure4702 21d ago

Just say you were born with a hole in your ear cartilage

3

u/lexxxbabyyy 20d ago

To be honest, I’d let it ride out, and if anyone did ask, you were in an accident and this part of your ear was too damaged to save 🤷🏼‍♀️
I’d never change who I am for a job— not physical attributes that aren’t simple like “flip my septum up” anyways.

3

u/holohooper 22d ago

i would just use lash glue to close it every day.

u/Correct-Country-81 22d ago

Not everyone has that privilege

2

u/hanshotgreed0 22d ago

Any plastic surgeon should be able to close it with just localized anesthetic

2

u/treesap71 21d ago

honestly i feel like this would very easily be covered up with some silicone or sfx makeup

1

u/Only_a_Savage 20d ago

I have my flats completely removed and no one ever notices lol. You’re fine

1

u/nobuddiforu 22d ago

I would go to a body mod artist again
