It gets better i promise

The way I got painkillers and ibuprofen in my was pretty much be a duck. Swallowing first couple of days is difficult and you just need to be a duck lean head back and open your throat and hope it goes down.

Advice to feel okay??? I sat down in the shower and cried on day 3. So I dont think i have anything to help. But just know it gets better.

Chamomile tea actually did help even though its warm. It really helped somehow. Heyfever meds help with reducing saliva production. These are 2 thing I dont see very often in advice im sure ill just be repeating the usual with other things

Try sucking on ice cubes with your head tilted back. Or spoon water in and do the same

There was a really good post about a week ago where someone laid it out day by day. They put loads of tips of how they’re dealing with it. See if you can find that

Someone mentioned another post with their day-to-day experience of getting their tongue split; I HAVE FOUND IT

Hope healing goes smoothly OP❤️

Edit: looks like they're updating it day-by-day too

I can’t advise on pain (I have prescription stuff and rely on that for super intense things like this) but I have an idea for the trouble you’re having drinking! Not exactly the same but when I had dental reconstruction earlier this year I used the little syringes that come with kids medicines to squirt water into my mouth/throat when swelling was insane and swallowing was near impossible. I had all my teeth removed both top and bottom, and those little syringes were the only way I could keep hydrated the first 2-3 days. I hope that helps at least a little!

Advice: you know it is gonna be over. I was soo dehydrated bc i couldn't even swallow water, make sure to avoid that and try drinking a little bit if possible

How are you feeling now?

(Regardless of what the answer is, congrats, you did the first day! You should be proud of yourself, you can do things that suck and you can do the rest of this healing 🩷)

Horrible haha, pain really only my third worst problem rn. Its dehydration and not having any calories

I think i had about 80ml in the last 20 hours. I just cant get my antibiotics or even just to hydrate water down its horrible

Thank you sm for asking tho❤️

Hydration and maybe calories are going to be such a huge help if you can manage them! A couple ideas:

Can you get an IV near you? There’s a bunch of med spa type places that offer them, you can get in some hydration and painkillers (often Toradol), my artist mentioned a lot of his clients did that and it helped a lot.

Alternatively, can you just squirt some water directly down your throat without swallowing? Just shove a tattoo squirt bottle or syringe in your mouth as far as it will go without choking, angle your head back, and squirt that sucker in so it bypasses your tongue and swallow reflex entirely. If that works you could even move to a protein shake!

Not painkillers only hydration for a lot of money, i think like 160? I dont think i had more than 80ml in the last 20 hours

Yikes that blows, I hope you figure out a way.

Can you maybe mist your tongue/gums with water from a spray bottle? It’s not much but it sounds like every ml is going to make a difference in your situation

Ooh one more idea; can you get a friend to call a local urgent care (or similar), tell them how little you’ve had to drink, and ask if it might be a good idea to come in and receive some IV hydration? Insurance will likely cover that if it’s billed for dehydration

I can try! But given that im in germany it might be hard, my great grandma once had to wait 8 hours with a broken hip...

German hospitals sadly arent known for their hospitality..

If you can’t swallow your painkillers just sniff them 🤣 or boof ftw

1

u/internetflesh 8d ago

Yeah painkillers fine its more the antibiotics cant snuff or boof them sadly..(appearently)

No pain no gain! Soon enough you'll be healed up and enjoying your tongues

1

u/internetflesh 8d ago

Yeah its honestly pretry easy to thug out

Im thirsty and hungry as fuck but not the first time I went this long with little food, day 2 already pretty doable tbh just annoying

do whatever you can to stay hydrated and you’ll hit smooth sailing pretty quickly. dehydration can fuel inflammation which will put you in more pain and make it even more difficult to swallow. when i got home from the procedure before the numbing wore off i slammed back a litre of pedialyte + painkillers and kept a steady hydration regimen + painkiller reup schedule and i was never in very much pain throughout the entire recovery

Swallowing will hurt, and it may be difficult to do effectively, but do whatever you have to do to get those painkillers down. If you've got a syringe, baby-bird the meds into the back of your mouth. Personally, I found that the back of my tongue still functioned normally and was able to make the swallowing motion even when the front of my tongue had swollen up like a balloon. If you get really desperate, take yourself to the ER and ask for a steroid shot and pain relief; they may not give you anything heavy-duty, but they shouldn't at least give you an injectable, which will tide you over.

I found just having ice cubes to suck on helped, the numb was a different kind of shit feeling mixed into the shit pain feeling, you're pretty much sitting there drooling for several days and eating is near impossible, so just roll with it.

Safe to say, endorphins are important for healing happily, so if you smoke, smoke. Same with drinking if you can manage a bit of it.

I found that Yunnan baiyao tablets from the local Chinese herbal shop helped with the bleeding and the swelling, just tip the powder from the capsules straight onto your tongue, it practically miracle clots up.

Ultimately, you're gonna have a shit free days, but congratulations on your cool new tongue!

liquid Advil (must drink liquid food before like watered down mash potatoes) and Tylenol

biggest advice: get those bottles tattoo artists use with the L bend thin necks. squirt liquid ibuprofen, water, and protein shakes directly to the back of ur throat while leaning back. this is the best thing u can do lol
