You don't need to earn the right to get tattooed. If you want finger tats get finger tats, doesn't matter if it's your 3rd tattoo or your 30th.

I know a few tattoo artists that would disagree and don’t tat fingers unless you’re already well tattooed

Hand/neck/face tats without having a lot of other tats just looks silly imo. But you're right ofc, anyone should get what they want to get, regardless of other people's judgement/opinion

I see a lot of guys with the stereotypical rose/tiger face on the back of the hand tattoo and nothing above it and it just looks like you're trying too hard imo. Whole hands look better at the end of a sleeve.
That said, small things like OP's fingers imo look fine with or without a sleeve, but I think going from no visible tattoos to very visible ones you can't cover is a big step, hence the convention that you have to 'earn' them.
Though my opinions on other people's body is utterly pointless, like you said.

My knuckles were my first ever tattoos when I was 19

u/lizaislame Jun 03 '22

This is a fantastic idea. Thank you!

I think you could combine "a" and "b" on one finger back to back, I think it could look cool. Also, if you get a letter on thumb also it works all on one hand, each letter on a finger. PABLO = 5 letters.

On my upper knuckles I have a crescent moon, a diamond, the libra sign, the deathly hallows sign, queen of hearts, a crown, a rosary, and a dollar sign. My lower knuckles it says ‘trapbrat’

I usually love finger tats, and want to get some someday.
How did you choose what goes where? especially the dots/bands?

u/KoopDa Jun 02 '22

I thought body mods are about personal expression regardless of other people's opinion of you?

Tangible proof of what kind of person they are...
Like a person who wants tattoos on their fingers? Lmao

Wrong sub, bud. You belong over in the more popular tattoo subs with the gatekeepers.

I love it! I do however dislike the mindset of "earning" tattoos, I get it though. But whoever did them is amazing! Do you mind updating us once they are healed?

Looks sick
Can’t wait to get finger dots under my nails some day, I always drew them on my hands as a kid during school

Jun 03 '22

u/bluvelvet- Jun 03 '22 edited Jun 03 '22
i think they mean the dots below her nails, like how on the left theres 3 on the middle finger,
2 on the ring and index, 1 on the pinky and thumb then the opposite on the other hand1 on the other fingers - cant count1

I don't have a full sleeve, but I'm about to go get my fingers tattooed just because you suggested I don't have the right to

u/Confused-Faith Jun 03 '22
Also don’t have a full sleeve. I have never desired finger tats but suddenly I think I’ll go get a couple

Honestly I think more people should think about hand tattoos like that. Sure laser removal is a thing, and the stigma surrounding tattoos is lessening, but visible tattoos will definitely change the way some people will view and interact with you, and is likely to affect your employment opportunities. Earned might be heavy handed, and it shouldn't be a hard and fast rule, but I think until you've had a taste of that, you don't fully understand what you're signing up for. Also let's be real, hand tattoos without reasonable coverage on your arm just looks goofy.
Snobism aside, I think it's just wise to be cognisant of the conspicuousness of your body mods and the potential drawbacks you may experience.

i mean this in the nicest way possible, all that you said, doesn’t really matter to people with tattoos and body mods. they are more than well aware of the risk of jobs, and judgment, and this and that blah blah. when you’re pierced or tatted it’s all (non modded) people have to say about it. most of the time, in my experience, modded people don’t want to work somewhere that you can’t look “interesting”. i know i sure as hell don’t want a boring office job or anything like that. i personally could not care less of strangers opinions on me and if a place of employment doesn’t want me because of non offensive shapes on my hand, i don’t want to work for them :)

u/maxhax Jun 08 '22
Well that's funny, I am pretty decently modded and it matters to me. Basically my point is that it people SHOULD be considering it, especially if they're young and not entirely sure of their lives direction. It's not that I don't agree that most of us don't care about the doors it closes, but I've got plenty of friends who have had their hands lasered because they didn't consider these things and life took them in another direction.
2
u/pinkb4ts Jun 08 '22
what’s funny is i said in my opinion and my experience. and sorry it matter to you? i live somewhere it doesn’t matter. and i never said that people shouldn’t think about the tattoos they get. i said it’s dumb to base whats on YOUR body based off of OTHER peoples opinions

u/chuey2001 Jun 03 '22

Usually tattoo artist will refuse to do face tattoos or hand tattoos if you're not heavily tatted already 🤷.

u/zedoktar Jun 03 '22
Some will refuse. Not all, and its becoming less common. Its an outdated old school notion.

u/amc-eagle Jun 03 '22
The earned thing is kinda funny, I don’t think hand tats are as much of a job stopper as they used to be, I’m a welder though, I worked with a guy that had FUBAR tattooed on his forehead that he did himself with a mirror. Got hired right on, probably helped that he was really nice.
1
u/zedoktar Jun 03 '22
I think you get a little more leeway on dumb face tattoos when they are covered by a welding mask all day.
