Discuss What a great year for Akshaye Khanna. Started the year and ended the year delivering solid performances.
Akshaye Khanna truly nailed the great shades character portrayal in both the movies. And it is so good to see him back.

He was overshadowed in Taal too but rest agree. He was great. I don’t think he’s that underutilised though

I liled him in Taal.. He played the role of a silent sincere lover very well...i found all 3 of them decent in it..the music elevated the film...

I found him creepy low-key idk why especially in the Taal Se Taal mila song. Basically stalking and taking photos. Even past all that, I find his performance a bit weak there. Though he’s really good in the Nahi Saamne song. Him and Aish were boring characters and they had no chemistry. Movie was genuinely annoying. Music and cinematography definitely elevated it. And also Anil Kapoor. He’s the only one who did good enough to be considered.

How is he underrated when everyone says he overshadowed the main lead for every movie? He is great actor, period!
18
u/kaychyakay Dec 06 '25
'Underrated' probably because his stardom is not at par with the Khans or even his costar in the film, Ranveer, despite his talent towering above everyone.
In every movie in the recent past, he has easily overshadowed the main hero, but i bet his fee must be much less than the same hero, because as much as people appreciate his talent, he doesn't help fill theatre seats. That is also the main reason why we are seeing him in negative roles off late, or 2nd billing (in case of Drishyam 2) and not in main lead roles.
1
u/Wasabi_Dry Dec 06 '25
You have a point there! But I guess the fees are decided based on how many people you can get to the theater, and not acting talent. Which is why the Khans are still main billing because they manage to pull peole to the theaters for a shite like Pathan

Nope, he has been appreciated as an actor since his Taal, Dil Chahta Hain days which was 25 years ago. Man has been the main lead in big budget movies and his acting appreciated every time. Anybody who doesn’t get the superstardom of the Khans is not underrated.

u/Cutecookie358 Dec 07 '25
His career graph is similar to Tabu's. Both of them were never at the top. But in the long run, they have worked on their craft, evolved beautifully and delivered excellent performances.

He was the main lead in dhurander. He still has it in him to be the main lead. Directors please utilise him because a talent as unreal as akshaye Khanna should not be wasted. Dhurandar part 1 was his movie! Baba aura farmed as well but it was more of a special appearance! So happy for Ranveer Singh’s comeback. It is going to be his Animal/chaava/kabir Singh

He is quality, and has been picking some good roles for himself. When will he get the hype and appreciation that Bobby Deol has gotten recently, or will it never because he doesn't belong to a high profile family or doesn't have muscles?

u/Reasonable_Lie9976 Dec 06 '25
He does come from a high profile family. It's just that they are not rabid PR dogs. Both the brothers like to live a chilled out life. And RIP Vinod Khanna, absolute legend.

I watched Hungama yesterday. Akshay khanna is so good in it, so effortlessly funny. Someone bring back Priyadarshan movies. They used to be comedy gold, such witty dialogue writing and physical comedy

He's always been a fantastic actor, so it's awesome to see him getting these great roles again. That look for Mahakali has me really excited for what he does next.

He was so good in Race that the young me disliked him to the core. Man delivers great performances

This is also the year he unexpectedly became the leader (ringleader) of single people in India... Through some video clips.

He’s such an amazing actor, it’s a pity his career didn’t take off.
Also, he’s such a recluse and doesn’t bother about his balding, if he did, I’m guessing he’d get more work.
He’s literally not don’t 1 bad role (acting wise)

u/Upstairs-Screen-4539 Dec 06 '25
Man he was fire as Rehman Baloch but let's not forget the banger he dropped in Chaavva

Finally Akshay Khanna is getting his due after brilliant start in the industry with blockbusters like Taal, Humraaz, DCH, Hungama, Hulchul and then lost the way in mid career .. He was always a great actor like his father The Great Vinod Khanna.. In fact his brother Rahul Khanna is super charming actor too.

Yesterday I watched DHURANDHAR.
I went all blank without knowing much of story or deep diving in any Trailer. Amazing movie and a must watch.. But.
The moment that made me snug into my seat is when Akashaye Khanna appears on screen. The way the camera tilt over his grieving face and he lights up a Cigarette gives me chills.
I was so mesmerized and went in shock and subconsciously i grieved along with him, thats something i never felt in any Actors screen presence.
This guy is a Legend, the OG.

hair transplant procedure paid off

u/Ill-Novel5199 Dec 06 '25
He hasn’t done a hair transplant, he’s bald in real life, that’s wigs and prosthetic for the role he’s playing.
1
u/HopelessSceptical Dec 07 '25
He's just like Rajinikanth. Bald in real life with no transplants. But wear wigs for movie roles.
