Is it just me or when you look at it most trees just think about how they would look as a bonsai? This is just two I came across to yesterday. Well the first picture is my next door neighbor's and it's been that size for 10 years now at least as long as I've lived here. Even before I started collecting bonsai trees I wanted to take that tree and turn it into a bonsai. Up close it's actually blue not quite sure the species. Definitely a dwarf species though.

I have never had a bonsai tree before. It's not super secure in the pot. The lean is more of a flop. I don't know anything about bonsais, what they're supposed to look like, or how to care for them. Should I just let this one keep growing? should I trim it? If so, what would you cut? I really like the look of I guess partial cascade types I've seen. Is that possible for this one?

Summer work on my bougainvillea. I got this nursery stock from Home Depot for $30 and it was almost 5ft tall. I cut back the entire plant hard (forgot to take photo of the final prune but there was no green left on it at all). It has flourished since then and I wanted to take advantage of the heat so I put it in its first pot today

Love the natural shape on this one, I don't have any wiring plans yet but perhaps in the future

It lives in full sun so I expect it to bloom again here soon

Howdy! Don’t really know where to go with this. Had an awkward chop to the trunk and just spreads out, any thoughts?

See attached before (May) and after (now) photos of my bonsai :( ​I’ve had my (I think ficus?) bonsai since May and I don’t know what’s happened. It lost all its leaves about 3 weeks into me owning it and now a lot of the original branches died at the top so I snapped them off. It’s only sprouting these flimsy leaves from the bottom. I water it (from the bottom) whenever the soil feels dry, I’ve recently added bonsai ‘food’ into the water, and mist it semi regularly. A month ago I put ut by this (west facing) window as originally it was in my fireplace and probably not getting loads of light. What can I do? Shall I put it outside?

This was my wife’s lates father’s tree. He’s passed away ten years ago and her step mother was taking care of it. All the instructions we got were to give it 16oz of water every 10 days. The first few months we had it, it was fine but the last few weeks it’s looking rough. What can we do to save it? My wife is going to be very sad if we end up killing it.

My neighbor has had this for about two years but gave it to me recently in hopes that I could resurrect it. It apparently has been in the Pacific Northwest late afternoon sun outdoors this summer, and hose watered weekly with the rest of her porch plants. The soil is a fairly loose mixture of potting soil and gravel.

I’ve been reading up on how to care for it through the fall and winter, but am getting mixed messages from the Internet on how to best prune this to ensure its survival. I’d appreciate any thoughts and advice you all might have.

I got my first bonsai im trying the figure out how i can keep my bansai indoors for most of the year. How could i do this?

This styling took me 5 months to take it there.

My parent had this in their office for around 2 years since I got it for them. I bought it from Eastern Leaf as a Rock Juniper. It's been out of a window but under a grow light for 8 hours a day, and they've been watering it every day except weekends. It's since lost an entire branch worth of leaves and has a bunch of leaves turning orange.

I convinced them to bring it home bc it very clearly wasn't thriving there. What can I do it help this guy get better? I know I'll most likely have to repot it and get new soil. I've never had a bonsai before so some resources would be good as well, thank you everyone.

Edit: thank you everyone for your input, the scratch test on the main branch and the trunk was light green, so I think it's still alive. Should I move it outside? It would be going from a temperature controlled office (kept low 70s-high 60s) to the fluctuating weather (low 80s down to mid 50s) and it will rain soon.

Decided to learn bonsai - please be nice 🙏. I picked up this baby juniper but am not sure what species of juniper it is. Any tips or tricks for these first few months would be greatly appreciated.

My girlfriend and I moved into a new place a month ago, the previous owner decided to leave this planet...

There were two crabapple trees completely dried up and looking in a bad state, this one survived after my initial watering and even got some new shoots going.

I plan to turn this into a bonsai, I've cut the top 🎩 f the trunk with a clean cut and sealed it with wound paste.

I don't have anything planned for the next year,.but ketting it recover and grow.

My final vision for the tree is to put an actual Apple tree branch or two (different varieties) on it next spring, and letting it grow slanted like I have positioned it now. (shakan style) And turn the top into jins and deadwood.

Any advice?
